Waiting on Wednesday (27)

Posted by 57 Comments

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week:

Nerve

Jeanne Ryan
Release date: September 13th, 2012
by Dial Books (Penguin)

When Vee is picked to be a player in NERVE, an anonymous game of dares broadcast live online, she discovers that the game *knows* her. They tempt her with prizes taken from her ThisIsMe page and team her up with the perfect boy, sizzling-hot Ian. At first it’s exhilarating—Vee and Ian’s fans cheer them on to riskier dares with higher stakes. But the game takes a twisted turn. Suddenly they’re playing all or nothing, and the prize might be their lives.

I love the sounds of this mostly because it seems so different. A real-life, twisted, Sims-ish, dare game!? Awesome! The cover is really cool too it’s what made me check out the book as soon as I saw this on someone’s Facebook page.

What are you Waiting on this Wednesday?

Wally was adopted from a Russian orphanage as a child and grew up in a wealthy New York City family. At 15, her obsessive need to rebel led her to life on the streets. Now the 16-year-old is beautiful and hardened, and she’s just stumbled across the possibility of discovering who she really is. “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” for teens, this debut thriller introduces a new heroine.

*A copy was provided by Penguin Canada for review purposes* When I see a book being compared to another, especially a well loved one such as The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, I’m always skeptical on how it can actually live up to such a claim. Fast paced and…

Review: Pretty Crooked by Elisa Ludwig

Willa’s secret plan seems all too simple: take from the rich kids at Valley Prep and give to the poor ones.

Yet Willa’s turn as Robin Hood at her ultra-exclusive high school is anything but. Bilking her “friends”-known to everyone as the Glitterati-without them suspecting a thing, is far from easy. Learning how to pick pockets and break into lockers is as difficult as she’d thought it’d be. Delivering care packages to the scholarship girls, who are ostracized just for being from the “wrong” side of town, is way more fun than she’d expected.

The complication Willa didn’t expect, though, is Aidan Murphy, Valley Prep’s most notorious (and gorgeous) ace-degenerate. His mere existence is distracting Willa…

Wanderlove

Kristen Hubbard Release date: March 13th, 2012by Delacorte Books for Young Readers

It all begins with a stupid question: Are you a Global Vagabond?

No, but 18-year-old Bria Sandoval wants to be. In a quest for independence, her neglected art, and no-strings-attached hookups, she signs up for a guided tour of Central America—the wrong one. Middle-aged tourists with fanny packs are hardly the key to self-rediscovery. When Bria meets Rowan, devoted backpacker and dive instructor, and his outspokenly humanitarian sister Starling, she seizes the chance to ditch her group and join them off the beaten path.

Bria’s a good girl trying to go bad….

Thorn’s Finder ability pretty much says it all- she finds things. When one day, it leads her to an ugly necklace, she’s soon thrown into a murder investigation. Buried is a light read with an enticing premise that, unfortunately, fell flat with unoriginality and lack of…
