Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week:

Jessica Khoury
Release date: September, 2012
by Razorbill
Pia has grown up in a secret laboratory hidden deep in the Amazon rain forest. She was raised by a team of scientists who have created her to be the start of a new immortal race. But on the night of her seventeenth birthday, Pia discovers a hole in the electric fence that surrounds her sterile home--and sneaks outside the compound for the first time in her life.
Free in the jungle, Pia meets Eio, a boy from a nearby village. Together, they embark on a race against time to discover the truth about Pia's origin--a truth with deadly consequences that will change their lives forever.
I'll be honest, the cover is not my favorite, but this sounds incredibly awesome! This is quoted on the author's site too which heightens my interest even more:
"Origin is a beautifully told, shocking new way to look at an
age-old desire: to live forever, no matter the cost. This is a supremely
compelling debut novel that blends the awakening romance of Matched with the mystery and jungle conspiracy of Lost."
What are you waiting on?
Link me up! :)
This one sounds really good!! I agree the cover is kind of blah though. Great, unique pick as usual Giselle.

I think I've seen this somewhere before, but I'm quite unsure whether I'd pick it up or not. I have to admit that I can imagine reading it a lot more now that I'm seeing it a second time, so maybe I'll just have to wait for a few reviews first. Great pick, Giselle! :)

Fictional Distraction
This one is already in my radar. It really does sound amazing! Science fiction is definitely one of my favorite genres. I've read Matched and couldn't wait to read Origin because they have the same concept of romance too. Origin have also a quite different theme, sort of Survivor-ish.

This looks like a really interesting read. You gotta love a book about a secret government project that backfires on them (hehe!). And I have to agree with you on the cover - it is a bit of a let down.
ReplyDeleteAwesome pick this week!

ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I've heard of this one! It definitely sounds interesting, and it's been a long time since I've read something with a jungle setting! That ought to be cool! Great pick!
ReplyDeleteCourtney @ Fuzzy.Coffee.Books <--My WoW!
I agree, the cover is not the best, I actually would have preferred if they would have put an actual girl in the picture - but you're right about the premise of the book! Sounds like a page turner! I have yet to read Match, it's sitting in front of me right now, lol, but I loved Lost!
ReplyDeleteSounds like one to add to my list, thanks!

ComaCalm's Waiting For...
L-O-freakin-L! I chose Origin, too! I found out about it maybe a week or two ago and was instantly intrigued. The cover is not too bad, but I do think it's missing something. Oh well. I'm sure what is within will make up for what it lacks without... Wait... Is that a grammatically correct sentence? >.<
ReplyDeleteYou know you love me! :-)
My WoW: http://blookgirl.com/features/waiting-on-wednesday/128-origin-by-jessica-khoury

ReplyDeleteThis one looks so great! I can't wait for it.
ReplyDeleteThis one sounds like a really neat concept. I agree, there is something about the cover that is just a bit off for me, but I guess you can't love them all, can you?
ReplyDeleteI'm interested to see why the scientists felt a need to create an immortal race - are thye going to be used as weapons?!
My WoW
I've never heard of this one before, but I'll definitely be adding it to my TBR! I agree with you about the cover - it's definitely unique but not totally eye-catching.
ReplyDeleteMy WoW
YES! :D I really do love the sound of this one, and there are very few books from Razorbill that I haven't loved. As for the cover . . . I'm mixed on it. On the one hand, it seems very fitting, and I like that's it's not something you see often, but it's not the most visually appealing.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I don't know where you find these books but this one sounds so fantastic, Giselle!! I couldn't imagine being raised in a secret laboratory hidden in the forest -- so I guess that I have to make a point to read this book and find out, right? ;) Plus, the romance in Matched was one of the sweetest so of course that makes me extra intrigued!
ReplyDeleteAwesome pick for your WOW this week, Giselle! :) <3 I hope you have an awesome Wednesday!
ill be honest also, not totally drawn to the cover but after reading the synopsis i cant wait!!!! you always do have some of the best picks!!!! this so went on my list!!

Nice pick! A lot of these dystopians are starting to sound alike to me. I'll be looking forward to reading the early reviews. Thanks for sharing, Giselle!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. The cover is not the most intriguing, but the premise is awesome. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteIt does sound really good! The cover isn't a favorite, but it definitely could have been worse. You're awesome at picking great-looking books I want to GR-stalk. ;)
