Waiting on Wednesday (29)

Posted by

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week:

Origin

Jessica Khoury
Release date: September, 2012
by Razorbill

Pia has grown up in a secret laboratory hidden deep in the Amazon rain forest. She was raised by a team of scientists who have created her to be the start of a new immortal race. But on the night of her seventeenth birthday, Pia discovers a hole in the electric fence that surrounds her sterile home–and sneaks outside the compound for the first time in her life.

Free in the jungle, Pia meets Eio, a boy from a nearby village. Together, they embark on a race against time to discover the truth about Pia’s origin–a truth with deadly consequences that will change their lives forever.

I’ll be honest, the cover is not my favorite, but this sounds incredibly awesome! This is quoted on the author’s site too which heightens my interest even more:

“Origin is a beautifully told, shocking new way to look at an age-old desire: to live forever, no matter the cost. This is a supremely compelling debut novel that blends the awakening romance of Matched with the mystery and jungle conspiracy of Lost.”

What are you waiting on?

That does sound awesome! Yet another to the list! I love the idea of her being a secret creation and that she escapes. I bet there will be a lot of mystery and surprises around why she was created. And a cute boy always helps 🙂

  2. Megan

Wow this book sounds very cool! I’m not sure about the cover. It might be one of those that grows on you, but then again, maybe not.

  3. Jennifer

I swear, you always have the coolest picks for your WoW’s. I’m always looking forward to them. This sounds really good and unique. Thanks for sharing, Giselle 🙂

  4. Tiffany

This one sounds so interesting! I’m not a huge fan of the cover but the premise sounds really different and unique. I’m excited for this one. Great pick!

  5. Michelle

I don’t think I ever even read the description for this book, because I also am not a fan of the cover and I guess that I am one of those people. But it actually does sound really good. Thanks for featuring it and bringing its potential awesomeness to my attention.

    My WOW

  6. Nick

I’ve never heard of this one, but it sounds really interesting.
It reminds me a little of Touch by Jus Accardo! 🙂
I’ll definitely have to add it to my to-read list!

    Great pick Giselle!

  7. Carina

I think I’ve seen this somewhere before, but I’m quite unsure whether I’d pick it up or not. I have to admit that I can imagine reading it a lot more now that I’m seeing it a second time, so maybe I’ll just have to wait for a few reviews first. Great pick, Giselle! 🙂

  8. Von @ Mr. Book Wonder

This one is already in my radar. It really does sound amazing! Science fiction is definitely one of my favorite genres. I’ve read Matched and couldn’t wait to read Origin because they have the same concept of romance too. Origin have also a quite different theme, sort of Survivor-ish.

This looks like a really interesting read. You gotta love a book about a secret government project that backfires on them (hehe!). And I have to agree with you on the cover – it is a bit of a let down.

    Awesome pick this week!

    Wanna check out my WoW?

  10. Sam

I actually really like the cover simply because it’s something a little different. 🙂 This book sounds AMAZING and I seriously can’t wait to read it! awesome WOW choice, Giselle. 🙂

  11. Kathy

Hmmm, while the cover is not my favourite, I do love the sound of this. I hadn’t really looked at it, but now that I’ve read the synopsis it does sound amazing.

  12. Amy

Ohhh this one does sound really awesome!! I agree that the cover isn’t the greatest, but the synopsis has totally intrigued me. Adding this to my TBR list now.

  13. BookJunkie

This is the first time I’ve heard of this one! It definitely sounds interesting, and it’s been a long time since I’ve read something with a jungle setting! That ought to be cool! Great pick!

  14. Danny

Reminds me a little of Lost. I mean the forest and secrecy. But, I agree this one sounds amazing and I add to to my list :))

  15. Rachelia (Bookish Comforts)

This one sounds like a really neat concept. I agree, there is something about the cover that is just a bit off for me, but I guess you can’t love them all, can you?

I’m interested to see why the scientists felt a need to create an immortal race – are thye going to be used as weapons?!

  16. Zoey Talbon

I’ve never heard of this one before, but I’ll definitely be adding it to my TBR! I agree with you about the cover – it’s definitely unique but not totally eye-catching.

  17. Lexie

YES! 😀 I really do love the sound of this one, and there are very few books from Razorbill that I haven’t loved. As for the cover . . . I’m mixed on it. On the one hand, it seems very fitting, and I like that’s it’s not something you see often, but it’s not the most visually appealing.

  18. Mimi Valentine

Oh my gosh, I don’t know where you find these books but this one sounds so fantastic, Giselle!! I couldn’t imagine being raised in a secret laboratory hidden in the forest — so I guess that I have to make a point to read this book and find out, right? 😉 Plus, the romance in Matched was one of the sweetest so of course that makes me extra intrigued!

Awesome pick for your WOW this week, Giselle! 🙂 <3 I hope you have an awesome Wednesday!

  19. Tara
