Waiting on Wednesday (32)

Posted by

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week:

After Dark

Emi Gayle
Release date: October 31st, 2012
by J. Taylor Publishing

What eighteen year old Mac Thorne doesn’t know will probably kill her.

In exactly eight months, five days, three hours and thirteen minutes, Mac has to choose what she’ll be for the rest of her life.

She has no choice but to pick. As a Changeling, it’s her birthright. To Mac, it’s a birthchore. Like going to school with humans, interacting with humans, and pretending to be human during the pesky daylight hours.

Once darkness descends, Mac can change into any supernatural form that exists — which makes her as happy as she can be. That is, until Winn Thomas, the biggest geek in her senior class figures out there’s more to what hides in the dark than most are willing to acknowledge.

In this first of the 19th Year Trilogy, Winn might know more about Mac than even she does, and that knowledge could end their lives, unless Mac ensures the powers-that-be have no choice but to keep him around.

I was first attracted to this by the cover as soon as I saw it on Goodreads, and it sounds like a different take on the shifter/changeling lore so I’m super intrigued by it.

What’s are you waiting on?

This one sounds awesome and I really like the cover. I also like that the protagonist is older, since you don’t see much of that in YA. Great pick 🙂

  2. Aylee

Yup, I’d read this one too! It’s actually been a while since I’ve read a werewolf book, so it’s looking really good right about now! If only we didn’t have to wait so long…

I’m not really one for the changeling element in books, but I like the aspect that she can change into any supernatural being – opens up tons of possibilities!

I thought about picking this as my WOW choice this week! I’m not a big fan of the cover but I do love the sound of it. Great choice! 🙂

  5. Danny

This is the second time I see it today and I love the synopsis!!! It sounds awesome! I love a good paranormal story and this one sounds like exactly my cup of tea!

  6. Elodie

I’m dying to read this book .. I heard about it quite recently but I really can’t wait for October 31st !! Great pick Giselle !

Changelings and shifters, oh my! I love the sound of this. Excellent cover, intriguing synopsis, but more importantly there are Big Secrets, Big Decisions, a more-than-likely romance with a GEEK – *fist-pumps* YES. I love the sound of this book! It sounds like it’s going to be an amusing and simultaneously angsty paranormal read and I’m excited!

OMG! Thank you all SO much for 1) posting this for cover love and 2) for loving it!

To those that asked about the romance … um … well … shhhhhhh: Yes! 🙂 Books 2 and 3 including ‘The End’ are all written and ready to go, too.

Thanks again!! Totally made my Wednesday!!

  9. Amy

This sounds interesting. I just added it to my to-read list on Goodreads. OMG number 510…SO many books to read lol!!

  10. Katie @ BlookGirl

Wow, this really DOES sound good! I love changeling stories (am actually writing one myself) so I think I’ll have to add this to my TBR pile! Great choice, love 🙂 …although I’m surprised you didn’t pick the new Rhiannon Frater novel 😉

I actually like the fact that it’s about an eighteen year old girl! Most of the times, they are like 16, so that surprises me.

Choose what you’ll be the rest for your life.. sounds fascinating.

First of all, I LOVE that for once it’s not the “what they don’t know won’t kill them.” Nope, in this case, it quite literally will kill her. 😀

Also love that the love interest is not, for once, the mysterious, brooding, snarky boy. That’ll be more than a little bit refreshing. Definitely adding this to my TBR list.

After seeing this on several people’s WoW’s, I really think I need to check it out! Most of the feelings about the cover I’m getting have been lukewarm, but I have to admit I really like it and it’d definitely make me pick it up on a shelf. I haven’t read too much about changelings, but the plot sounds great too! Great choice 🙂

My WoW can be found here! 🙂
