Waiting on Wednesday (33)

Posted by

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week:

The Farm

Emily McKay
Release date: December 4th, 2012
by Berkley Books (Penguin)

Life was different in the Before: before the Ticks began devouring humans in a deadly swarm across America; before the surviving young people were rounded up and quarantined “for their own protection.” These days, we know what those quarantines are—holding pens where human blood is turned into more food for the Ticks. Surrounded by electrical fences, most kids try to survive the Farms by turning on each other…

And when trust is a thing of the past, escape is nearly impossible.

Lily and her twin sister Mel have a plan. Though Mel can barely communicate, her autism helps her notice things no one else notices—like the portion of electrical fence that gets turned off every night. Getting across won’t be easy, but as Lily gathers what they need to escape, a familiar face appears out of nowhere, offering to help…

Carter was a schoolmate of Lily’s in the Before. Managing to evade capture until now, he has valuable knowledge of the outside world. But like everyone on the Farm, Carter has his own agenda, and he knows that behind the Ticks is an even more dangerous threat to the human race…

So I just found this like, 10 minutes ago while looking at upcoming books for my WoW. And can I just say, Squeeeee. Ok, this sounds SO up my alley it’s like it was made for me! That’s right, the author saw my horror talks on Twitter and wrote this! I swear! TICKS!! KILLER TICKS! This whole blurb has me drooling. *grabby hands*

Sidenote: Emily McKay is part of the group of authors who wrote The International Kissing Club 🙂

WHY haven’t I heard of this before?! It sounds amazing! Great pick Giselle. It’s definitely being added to my TBR now. 😉

I think this is exactly the thing you would love to read, Giselle, judging by your choices so far 🙂 I’m not much of a dystopian lover, but I might check it out at some point 🙂

    Thanks for sharing!

That book sounds intense! And the Ticks thing makes me itch. I know the author probably means something closer to vampire-like creatures (maybe?) but *shudder. Great pick!

I have got to read this!! Right now I am reading “Masque of the Red Death” and I LOVE it… It’s so different than anything I have read, and the way people are getting sick.. This books sounds similar…

    Check out my WoW post!

  7. ODell @ Book Twirps

This does sound good. I met her at an event back in January where she was promoting “… Kissing Club” with the other authors and she was talking about this book. I’d forgotten about it.

  8. Nick

I’ve never heard of this one before, but it sounds really awesome. Your WoWs always help me discover new books, Giselle 🙂
    Thanks for that ! 🙂

Girl, WHERE do you find these books? Every week it seems like you come up with something awesome that I’ve never even heard of! I’m wondering if “Ticks” are vampires or actual ticks. I actually think the latter option is gross and scarier. And I love that one of the MCs has autism, and I love the cover…adding this to my tbr right now!

I hadn’t heard of this until your post, but basically . . . KILLER TICKS. That’s . . . just . . . I need this. Now-ish. I think this one could be EXTREMELY awesome if done right.

    Hi Giselle,

Thanks for highlighting The Farm for your WoW. I’m so excited. This is my first WoW for this book! This makes it feel like it’s really a book (if that makes sense at all).
