Waiting on Wednesday (34)

Posted by

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week:

Reaper

L.S. Murphy
Release date: January 7th, 2013
by J. Taylor Publshing

There’s no way sixteen year old Quincy Amarante will become the fifth grim reaper. None. Not over her shiny blue Mustang. Her Jimmy Choos. Or her dead body.

She’s supposed to enjoy her sophomore year, not learn about some freaky future Destiny says she has no choice but to fulfill.

It doesn’t take long for Quincy to realize the only way out of the game is to play along especially since Death can find her anyway, anywhere, anytime. And does.

Like when she’s reassuring her friends she wants nothing to do with former best friend Ben Moorland, who’s returned from god-knows-where, and fails. Miserably.

Instead of maintaining her coveted popularity status, Quincy’s goes down like the Titanic.

Maybe … just maybe … that’s okay.

It seems, perhaps, becoming a grim reaper isn’t just about the dead but more about a much needed shift in Quincy’s priorities—from who she thinks she wants to be to who she really is.

I love grim reaper stories. All the ones I have read I have immensely enjoyed – my favorite is the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones. That one’s an adult series, though, but it’s seriously awesome and all kinds of hilarious! So anyways, I love the lore and death is just, you know… scary, but also fascinating. Like an accident you can’t look away from! Reaper’s premise sounds a bit light and fun, but it’s tagged under Thriller/Suspense on the pub’s website. Either way, I’m really looking forward to this!

What’s did you pick this week?

Oh my gosh! That’s one of the most creative covers I’ve seen. Seeing her holding that scythe and the normalcy behind her is awkward but sends the message clearly. That definitely works for me!

    Nice pick!

This one sounds so funny Giselle. I’m adding it to my wishlist too!

You changed your blog design! I love it. The header works so well with your blog name.

This looks really awesome! I love it when authors explore the role of Death in their novels, and this looks to have a little bit of humour thrown into the mix as well.

    Thanks for sharing!

I have the Charley Davidson series on my wishlist so I’m so happy to see you mention it here, Giselle. It sounds like so much fun. As for Reaper, I’m not sure if it’s the book for me, the description of the heroine makes me think of Ellie(?) from Angelfire which I didn’t get along with at all 😉 That being said I hope you’ll enjoy this novel once you get to it, Giselle.

I’ve never heard of Darynda Jones before. I’ll have to check those out.

Have you read Croak? It’s AMAZING. Also, you should watch Dead Like Me if you haven’t.

Ooh I haven’t heard of this one but it sounds like a lot of fun! I’m really curious to see why it’s tagged as thriller/suspense though, huh.

Awesome pick! 😀 I, too, am a big fan of grim reaper stories–they can be seriously fantastic when done right. This one looks like it could be both cute and dark, which is always an interesting combination.
