Waiting on Wednesday (40)

Posted by

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week:

The Culling

Steven dos Santos
Release date: March 8th, 2013
by Flux

16 year-old Lucian Spark is the sole caretaker of his young brother, Cole, in a bleak and dangerous world that has arisen from the ashes of a devastating global apocalypse. Betrayed and drafted into the ruthless Establishment’s sadistic military boot camp, Lucian is plunged into the ultimate horror known as The Culling. Now, torn away from Cole, perhaps forever, Lucian must compete in a series of deadly challenges designed to purge the recruits of their humanity and transform them into amoral, cold-blooded killers by forcing them to make the most agonizing, emotionally devastating choices imaginable.

During this terrifying ordeal, Lucian finds himself growing closer to Digory Tycho, a mysterious and rebellious young man who challenges him in ways he couldn’t have dreamed of, and awakens in him the courageous fires of rebellion.

But in a world where loving someone can be used as the ultimate weapon, how can anyone stand a chance?

Ok ok, let’s all look past this… glowing… green cover and just focus on the synopsis now, shall we? Freaking awesome, right? Well anyways, I think so. Me – the ultimate post apocalyptic freak. 😀

I’m a huge post-apocalyptic fan too so this sounds right up my alley! And a male narrator too! Awesome find – adding it to Goodreads now.

  2. Neyra

This book sounds awesome Giselle 😀
I do agree that the dystopia worlds are alluring, and I’m definitely on board! Too bad it’s until March 2013 D:

Eep! That cover is… wow. Yeah, I would NOT have picked up the book based on the cover, but the synopsis sounds REALLY exciting – a’la Hunger Games! I will definitely be on the look-out for this one.

    Great pick, muffin! 🙂

  6. Christina

This is on my list already. Heck yeah, dystopias/post-apocalyptic! I am so ready!

This is a ‘boy’ cover. They apparently like things to look radioactive.

  9. Heather

Yeah the glowing green kind of throws me off a bit (what was Flux thinking?!) but I must admit, the synopsis does sound awesome!

  10. Sam

The cover is pretty cool! Even though this is the sort of thing I usually like to read… I’m just not that intrigued by it for some reason?? I bet I’ll regret that though when everyone is reading this and telling me how amazing it is. 😀

  11. Karen

That sounds so good! Your WoW is must-read for me, you always come up with books I don’t see anywhere else.

Something about the cover makes me think of the Escape from Furnace series.

  12. Eileen

I honestly have no idea what to say to that cover. Well, its very green, and green, and…green. 😛 But the synopsis does look really interesting for a post-apocalyptic. 🙂

  13. Lexie

YES! 😀 The cover is . . . not particularly attractive, it’s true, but the synopsis sounds fucking AWESOME. I think it could be super dramatic and creepy. I love it.
