Waiting on Wednesday (67)

Posted by

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine
and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week:

Velvet
Em Garner
Release date: July 23rd 2013
by EgmontUSA

After the Contamination—an epidemic caused by the super-trendy diet drink SlimPro that turned ordinary citizens into violent, uncontrollable creatures—the government rounded up the “Connies” to protect the remaining population. Now, two years later, the rehabilitated are being allowed home, complete with shock collars that will either control, or kill, them.

Velvet Ellis has struggled to care for her ten-year-old sister since her parents were taken in the round up. When she finds her mother in one of the “Kennels,” Velvet resolves to do whatever it takes to put her family back together. But the danger isn’t over. It’s beginning all over again…

Gritty and grabbing, Velvet is a harrowing, emotionally charged novel for fans of Carrie Ryan and The Walking Dead.

Isn’t this cover really awesome? It’s so bright and unusual! I approve! And honestly, all I needed to see was “an epidemic” to get me interested. And them “violent, uncontrollable creatures” sealed the deal!

What are you waiting on?

Mhm…tobe honest, I’m not such a huge fan of the cover – I don’t really like the color they used, but the synopsis sounds really interesting 🙂

That’s a really interesting cover. I didn’t notice the bottles at first, but yes I agree that it’s very unusual. Dude, “for fans of The Walking Dead”! That pretty much sealed the deal for me!
    Awesome pick, Giselle!

P.S. Great blog design! Love the subtle color theme. I also tweaked mine (I’m still learning the ropes) as the new year definitely called for one.

Ooooh wow, I can NOT wait till you review this one. I know it’s a ways off but still 😀 The premise gives me the creeps but also makes me want to know what’s going to go down. That cover is SO striking too!

    Awesome choice Giselle!

  4. The Bumble Girl

The cover is definitely unique and memorable! Yellow is not used enough on bookcovers!
Interesting storyline, I’m wondering if these people turned creatures are more monster-ish or zombie-ish… or is that the same thing? lol
Great pick, thanks for sharing 🙂

    Happy new year, Giselle!!!

You always introduce new books to me! 😀 VELVET sounds AMAZING. I mean, the cover is really enough to give you the creeps. And, of course, the zombies really helped pique my interest in this book, too. Definitely adding this one to my TBR pile!

    Thanks for sharing, Giselle!

Oh wow, I love the sounds of this. Hadn’t heard of it before so thanks for sharing. It has such a cool cover too. The fact that the head is in the bottle is a bit creepy, but it actually suits the book, so that’s great!

  7. Jasprit

Hahaha the cover is indeed absolutely stunning and I have to agree, I find myself captivated by such strange words from the blurb of a book these days! Brilliant pick Giselle! 🙂

I swear, Giselle, you always choose the best WoW picks! I can’t wait to get my hands on this one. I love this whole idea of an epidemic that turns people into what seems to be zombies. And you’re right, that cover is so different! Yay for no girl in a dress! I love how the color totally pops out. I’m sure that, in real life, it’ll be quite the sight.

Fantastic pick! Thanks for sharing. <3
