Having read and really enjoyed a novel by this author under a mysterious other name (Oh I’m on to her!) I’m happy to have Reese Monroe on the blog today to talk about her newest book, Forged by Fate, which has just released this week through Entangled. Let’s have a look at what it’s all about and then we’ll give the blog floor to her!

He’s waited more than 900 years to love her…

Being the Gatekeeper to Hades is no small feat, and waiting almost a millennia to meet your mate is damn near impossible. But Theo Bradford’s mark has finally surfaced on his intended. Now all he has to do is find her and convince her to embrace her supernatural heritage.

Young genius, Sadie Nowland, has got life figured out. Graduating college at the age of eighteen and accepting a six-figure job is just what she needs to prove she’s made something of herself. But when a strange tattoo mysteriously appears on her shoulder and Theo starts talking about Mates, it catapults her neatly laid out life into chaos.

Somehow a vicious demon banished to Hades defies Theo’s vanquish and returns, setting his target on Sadie, and she is thrust into the volatile world of Shomrei warriors and a connection to Theo her brain can’t comprehend and her body can’t deny. That primal bond proves more imperative to their survival than either could have ever imagined—and just may be the key to the world’s survival.

Favorite Part of Writing Forged by Fate

I really enjoyed writing Forged by Fate, mostly because I love the characters so much. It’s difficult to pick a favorite part of the story, but I’m going to have to say I loved writing Sadie.
This part in particular:

“I feel your turmoil.” He leaned down, so close his breath tickled her face.
She couldn’t stop her tongue from sliding out to moisten her lips. God she wanted him to kiss her.
That was so not like her, either.
“I can help,” he whispered, leaning even closer. “Do you trust me?”
“Yes.” The answer came out before she could rein it in. How could she trust him? She barely knew him. “Yes.”
He smiled, and his gaze shifted to her lips. “Allow me a kiss, then.”
She almost said “anything,” but found her control. She inched up to her tiptoes as she nodded. If anyone was doing the kissing, it’d be her.

Sadie Nowland is turning eighteen on the day she graduates from undergraduate classes. Yes, she’s a genius, but she’s also very broken. Left at a group shelter only hours after her birth, she’s been alone. Never adopted, abnormally strong, super smart…Not to mention, she has a black belt in karate.

It was fun writing those unique features into her character because they gave me so much to work with.

Then add a 911-year-old Shomrei Gatekeeper of Hades, claiming to be her fated Mate, into the mix…The concept just didn’t compute with her scientist-wired mind. And that made it even more fun to write her character.

Conflict between the heart and mind can sometimes be an epic battle. And with Sadie, who is strong, self-sufficient, and focused, it was fun to work through as she faced the unexplained matters of the heart and soul such as hope, faith, and love.

I’m curious. What’s your favorite part of a romance novel? The first meeting? The first kiss? Their first fight? Or maybe the make-up scene after that first fight…

While I’m NOT a fan of the cover (it just looks odd, his positioning but I guess she’s comforting him with her boobs so there is that), the story sounds intriguing. And I want to be an 18-year-old making six figures! LIfe’s so not fair.

I love when a character is well-developed, and they are the hardest to do well because there are so many factors that you have to take into consideration when it comes to your characters and how their personality reflects their actions. And to answer that last question, I love that part between when they first meet and when they first kiss, because you can really feel their attraction during that time period and if it’s done right, I get tingles from reading that part!

    Thanks for sharing! <33
