Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week:

Waiting on Wednesday (103)Second Star by Alyssa B. Sheinmel, Julie Anne Peters
Published by Farrar Straus and Giroux (BYR) on May 13th 2014
Genres: Retellings, YA
Goodreads

A twisty story about love, loss, and lies, this contemporary oceanside adventure is tinged with a touch of dark magic as it follows seventeen-year-old Wendy Darling on a search for her missing surfer brothers. Wendy’s journey leads her to a mysterious hidden cove inhabited by a tribe of young renegade surfers, most of them runaways like her brothers. Wendy is instantly drawn to the cove’s charismatic leader, Pete, but her search also points her toward Pete's nemesis, the drug-dealing Jas. Enigmatic, dangerous, and handsome, Jas pulls Wendy in even as she's falling hard for Pete. A radical reinvention of a classic, Second Star is an irresistible summer romance about two young men who have yet to grow up--and the troubled beauty trapped between them.

A Peter Pan love story! Dude! πŸ˜€ That was only one of my favorite cartoons when I was a kid. I had the VHS (Lolz) and I used to watch it over and over until I’m pretty sure the tape physically broke!

What are you waiting on, this week?

I haven’t yet decided if I’m on board with this one. I keep stumbling over the “tribe of young renegade surfers” thing…it could be great, it could be kind of ridiculous. Probably wait for some reviews before I make up my mind! (See, this is what happens when I get too many meh reads in a row. I’m gun-shy.)

I’m not a huge fan of retellings, but Second Star actually looks like something that I would like. I also loved watching Peter Pan when I was younger, I think I wrecked my video because of the amount of times I watched it! Gorgeous pick Giselle! πŸ™‚

Peter Pan has always kind of giving me the creeps, but I’m going to be honest. The second I realized this was a Peter Pan retelling I kind of wigged a little. This story sounds amazing! Seriously. On my wish list right now!

Now this looks like an excellent pick!! I LOVE PETER PAN. So a retelling like this would be super awesome ^^
Great pick Giselle! Thanks for introducing this read to me <33

It’s so rare to come across a Peter Pan modern retelling. Most of the time, it’s about Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. And dark magic? Hmmn, I think I’m gonna give this book a go.

    Thanks for sharing, Giselle!
