Why We Love Being Bloggers (and Readers)!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where every week there is a new top 10 topic where we list bookish things.

Blogger Lovin’!

  • Readers are the New Black – Duh! Readers are now the coolest kids on the block (in case you didn’t know) and that makes being a blogger of books the bestest and most sought after thing there is.
  • Sharing is Caring! Who doesn’t love to shove their opinions into other people’s faces? Having a blog is like getting an outlet for our intense, often fangirly, sometimes snarky opinions where people love to agree or disagree and have these awesome discussions about nerdy bookish things!
  • Socializing for us Introverts! This may surprise you, but we hate to go out (WHAAAT?). One reason is this dumb Canadian climate, but both of us would pick staying in over socializing *shudders*. Being a blogger brings us all together into a social community where we all love to shove opinions and have silly arguments over who’s book boyfriend is the most awesomest (we all know mine is – all 254 of them)!
  • Friends! On the same note, we both have met people (even including each other!) that have become very close friends. Some even as close as our local friends. We know blogging is not always easy, especially with drama and plagiarism and the hard work it takes to run a blog, but the sense of community and blogging friends are what makes all the hard work worth it!
  • ARCs? All of the books? Being able to read a book before it’s available to the public so we can flaunt it in front of our socialite family members who so don’t get it, is awesome! And duh, free books! Does that make us shallow? Pfft who doesn’t love free things? Well, we want ALL OF THE BOOKS and are not ashamed to admit it!
  • Meeting Gods/Goddesses of Writing! Authors have always been like celebrities to us and we actually get to have conversations about their books which still blows our minds! We both squee and print screen to each other whenever an author we love follows us or responds to a tweet.
  • Spending Time in Style: While most people go about living their lives, we live hundreds of them! How’s that for 9 lives, cats?? *Hairflip* Plus, it gives is something to do while our husbands play their lame video games.
  • Escape! For those who run a busy lifestyle or, like us, have kids, you definitely understand our need to shut down our brains once the little devils are in bed! We get to escape and live secret lives – which in our cases means bawling our eyes out as if we were dying or fighting to the death in a bloody zombie bath (we’ll let you guess who’s who! >.<).
  • This is supposed to be a Top “10” List
  • And now it is!

What’s your favorite part about being a blogger/reader?

Ha your this is supposed to be a top 10 list made me laugh. come on, I’m sure you could have thought of 2 more reasons why reading and blogging is the bees knees? πŸ™‚ I agree with your list. Yes, blogging is socializing for us introverts.

  2. Camilla

I totally agree that being a reader is the New Black! πŸ™‚ Although, if you ask me, being a reader has always been more cool than being anything else – I’m happy to renew my soon-to-be 25-year-membership card πŸ˜‰

  3. Kelsey

Can I just say that I agree? I don’t have a husband or kids. I don’t even have 23 cats to take care of. Blogging is my escape. If I don’t do it, I end up getting stressed out over my classes, my work, my monetary dilemmas, etc. And haha, yes. I don’t know that I’m extremely close to other bloggers yet, but I think I’m starting friendships and they have no idea just how much I value them. I’m an introvert and this truly is my favorite way to socialize.

  4. Nick @ Nick's Book Blog

YES, to all of those above! My favorite part has definitely been making new friends. I think I have more friends online than I have in real life. It’s always awesome to meet people you can bond with over something you love.
And of course, getting to interact with authors is like interacting with celebrities, which is a dream come true to us book lovers.
    Great post!

  5. Nara

HECK YES TO ALL OF THESE POINTS. I think a big part of why I started blogging was because freaking none of my friends read and I therefore had pretty much no one to talk to about books. Now there are plenty of people I can rant to or fangirl about characters with πŸ˜€
And haha freaking out about authors interacting with you on twitter- SO true!

  6. Kristen @My Friends Are Fiction

Love all of these–and so true. I’m an introvert too so the social aspect is very nice. It’s so easier to talk online than in person (for me). The ARCs are an amazing bonus because BOOKS. Talking w/the authors still blows my mind. I’ll never get used to that. <3

  7. sarabara081 @ Forever 17 Books

OMG yes to all of that! I’m a complete introvert so it’s nice to have people to still be able to talk to from the comfort of my home. None of my ‘in real life’ friends really read (gasp!), so blogging has allowed me to make friends with people who have the same interests. And allowed me to discuss all the books that bring out so many emotions in me that I have to let out!

“This was supposed to be a top ten list

    And now it is”

Bahahahaha, that’s amazing! Aside from that I totally agree with all of the things. Though I liked to go out a bit, so that differs, but still!

These are great. I’ve pretty much always been a reader, and I’m fairly known for that…but I love it. I love reading about all these other lives and blogging allows me to find other people that love the same things. It’s a wonderful match.

  10. Mary @ BookSwarm

Totally my social time. I’ve “met” so many awesome people online and they’re so fantastic to talk to all from the comfort of my own home. It’s fabulous. And we get to squee about awesome books–could it get any better?!?

  11. Eileen @ Singing and Reading in the Rain

Hahaha love your last two items! I feel like it’s always a fun thing to be able to get ARCs. I mean, you’re getting books from the publishers themselves because they want you to give their books a try. I also love meeting new people on the blogosphere, because all of them are so nice, especially for introverts. Like other than going to school, is there any such thing as going outside for anything else? Lol fantastic list, Giselle! <33

  12. Angie @Angela's Anxious Life

I love how you said all of introverts can now have a place to share our love with others who have something similar in common. I love it!! I usually can find someone out there who loves the same author/books as me. I also add games and movies into my blog so I find those people also. Sooooo fun!!!

  13. Siiri

“Who doesn’t love to shove their opinions into other people’s faces?” Hah, well, when you put it like that. Why, yes, we do actually πŸ˜‰ FRIENDS. This is by far the best thing out of everything that I have gotten through blogging. BY FAR! And to think of that–you two started your friendship thanks to this πŸ™‚ When Wendy Higgins first replied to my tweet I was like WHOAAA!!! She actually replied? I must have died and went to heaven. I love that you mentioned this because authors are rockstars. Escapism is my coping mechanism. One: “Bad mood?” Me: “Give me a book and let’s talk in half an hour.” Yeah. Love this list, girls!

  14. Sheena-kay Graham

Meeting authors is a big plus. In January I got contacted by a publisher who enjoyed my review for their book on netgalley and offered me an interview with the author on her blog tour. I was beyond excited and the interview was amazing. Book Blogging rocks and while I have my blog for both personal and book reviewing purposes, I am in agreement that book reviewing can make you feel like a rock star.

  15. Lauren

Fabulous list! I totally agree, it’s wonderful to e-meet people who like to fangirl as much as I do about books. And I’m very relieved to see I’m not the only one with over 200 book boyfriends I’m prepared to gush about. πŸ™‚ And lord yes to escaping. When I get home from work it’s so lovely to take a break with blogging and reading!

  16. Bethzaida (bookittyblog)

Hahaha! You guys are funny! I agree with every single one of your reasons why you love being a blogger. The one that I identified with the most is the socializing part. I hate going out and I’m not good at making insta-friends. I’m very awkward and say things that only I would get and people just look at me like I’m a crazy person. But blogging has helped me make friends all over the world and they are as awkward as I am! Awkward+Awkward=Awesome! Great post girls!!!

  17. Candace

Most of my friends anymore are bloggers. I love that I have made friends from around the world, but I’ve made real life friends too. Bloggers and authors actually. I love it!

  18. Aylee

Ha!! Brilliant top “ten”, you guys. And yup, this pretty much sums it up! It’s pretty great to be able to meet fellow book lovers online and bond over books and book boyfriends and feels. Who needs a social life when you’ve got book blog friends?

  19. Melliane

you’re totally right! I agree with you and it was fun to read this post. And it’s true authors are like wonderful celebrities. and It’s so fun to meet them.

  20. Jennifer Bielman

I couldn’t agree more with all those reasons. And we are so cool now, thank you Twilight. I think Twilight totally brought reading back to popularity. Which is kind of a scary thought.

  21. Faye @ The Social Potato

Hahaha! I love all of these reasons, and I feel the same way for each and every one of them. It’s not that I hate socializing, I mean, I love meeting new people and hanging out with my circle of friends, but if I were ever given a choice, I

  22. Faye @ The Social Potato

(CRAP I ACCIDENTALLY HIT SUBMIT HAHA)… (cont’d) … I’d rather hang out at home with my books πŸ˜› Anyway you guys (the community) are the best so I didn’t regret doing this thing even one bit. <3 Love this list πŸ˜€

  23. Alexa

Lol I like how you say we get to live hundreds of lives. I always loved that about books, you get to be in the minds of so many amazing characters and live their lives for a short time.

    Great list!
