Winning what you want may cost you everything you love

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

  1. Amanda @ Book Badger

So many exciting books out this week! So so many! I’m set to read Half Bad and Searching for Beautiful this month and I’m interested to see how well Let The Storm Break and Nil are rated this next few weeks as I need a few more opinions on them. I’m hoping Half Bad is at least half a good read though 🙂

  2. Eileen @ Singing and Reading in the Rain

I am so excited for The Winner’s Curse to come out this week! Like, that’s the book that almost everybody has been recommending recently and I love that cover so much! Who cares about the other books when you have that? Haha jk 16 Things I Thought Were True was really cute and I’ve heard good things so far about the Throne of Glass novellas 🙂 Thanks for sharing, Giselle! <33

  3. Mel@thedailyprophecy

I need to read The winner’s curse as one point, seeing that it’s one of the most hyped books at the moment. I can’t wait to get my copy from The assassin’s blade. It’s gorgeous and I loved the novella’s. I’m also interested in Half bad & Nil.

  4. Megan

No must-buys for me this week, thank goodness (my bookshelf needs a break). The Winner’s Curse was good though! I got excited when I saw the horses on the cover of The Enchanted, but after reading the blurb, it seems like they aren’t actually part of the story.

  5. Faye @ The Social Potato

Holy craaaap! So many books out this book! I dunno what to feel haha

Really looking forward to Wicked Little secrets (Which I have an ARC of that I /need/ to get to soon). Interested in Nil, A Death Struck Year, and Above (maybe). Already read TWC, and Half Bad and Murder of Crows which I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND!!! lol.

Looking forward to what’s in store next weeek

  6. Lauren

The Winner’s Curse rocked, and I can’t wait to read Murder of Crows, 16 Things I Though Were True and Let the Storm Break! 🙂

  7. Amy @ Book Loving Mom

OMG so many awesome books this week!! I loved The Winner’s Curse!! It was awesome. I liked NIL too. I am reading Til Death right now and I like it, but the MC’s are a bit annoying. I can’t wait to read The Blue Haired Boy. I want to know Bodee’s story. Faking it was such a great book and he is such a great character.

  8. Jessica @ Rabid Reads

Your flavor of the week is also my flavor of the week 🙂 As for the rest of them–maybe in a couple of hours my eyes will pop back into my head, and I can focus on important things like cackling with glee at. All. Of. The. Books.

  9. Pili

Hmmm so many books this week! The Winner’s Curse I’ll have to pick up tomorrow cause we weren’t home for the delivery and The Assassin’s Blade I have preordered but since it’s the UK edition it’ll download to my Kindle next week!
