Abram and Juliette know each other. They’ve lived down the street from each other their whole lives. But they don’t really know each other—at least, not until Juliette’s mom and Abram’s dad have a torrid affair that culminates in a deadly car crash. Sharing the same subdivision is uncomfortable, to say the least. They don’t speak.

Fast-forward to the neighborhood pharmacy, a few months later. Abram decides to say hello. Then he decides to invite her to Taco Bell. To her surprise as well as his, she agrees. And the real love story begins.

Interview with Jay Clark

Let’s start with telling us what your book is about – but in tweet form!

She didn’t expect her silver lining
To be wearing gray sweatpants.
Will their parents’ sketchy history
Stop her from giving him a chance?

What was the funnest part of writing Finding Mr. Brightside?

I was surprised how enjoyable it was to let the sparks fly between the two main characters without wet-blanketing them with an unnecessary punch line (or twenty), which is my tendency. I really want to end this answer with a joke right now.

Do you see yourself in any of your characters?

Abram’s the beach-loving side of me that’s like, “Let’s just relax for a bit, cool?”  Juliette’s the Starbucks-drinking side of me that’s like, “Cool, then what happens?” You wouldn’t think these sides would be compatible, but therein lies the mysteriously counterintuitive appeal of both the book and my personality? That’s what I’m hoping.

If you had to start over (don’t cry!), is there anything you would do differently?

*Stops crying and enters time machine* Hey, why do I look so miserable back in 2009 and 2011? Sounds cliché, but I really would just try to have more fun with the writing process itself versus waiting for something amazing to knock me off my poorly constructed DIY treadmill desk.

Share some of your favorite quotes (or a favourite moment) in this book.

Loved writing the Halloween party scene. Juliette’s reluctant appreciation of Abram’s beer-pong prowess, Heidi thwarting Juliette’s French exit attempts, Abram’s perfect robot-buster-outer timing, Heidi’s inappropriate twerking against her fellow dancers and frequent demands that they “Get it!”… my idea of a good time. I’ve also been known to self-LOL at the “Wouldn’t you know, there’s always a steep ravine nearby when I get into hypothetical car accidents” and “Let’s leave before she’s finished being disgusting” (re: the mysterious Starbucks bathroom occupant) lines.

I absolutely need snacks when I read – what would you tell me to eat while reading this book?

Food: Shredded cheese microwaved on top of Tostitos-brand tortilla chips (the cheaper Kroger brand is always a mistake, unfortunately) with Tostitos Restaurant Style salsa. Drink: A vat of Starbucks iced coffee sweetened with half-and-half (and maybe a single shot of espresso if you had a rough night last night). 😉

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, and was so excited to read the second one. I had a few issues with it, but I still thought it was pretty great. With the way the last one ended, I was really curious where this one would go. I loved the story progression, but I couldn’t help but feel that at times Kestral was being really dumb. I still really liked her character though. The stake are high in this installment of the series and there is a lot of stuff going on so it was quite an exciting read. Being that this is a sequel, I will try not to give anything away.

Kestral is set to marry the prince. Obviously, she does not want to, but…

This book was a fun read. I liked the whole aspect of the tests that the family had to go through to try to win the inheritance. It was especially great, because things were not always as expected. Each test that they go through has to do with the family history and traits that their ancestors had. Pretty much all of the family are entitled shits who think that they deserve everything. Most of them annoyed me to no end, but it was all what made the overall story so good.

Avery is kind of a bit of a trouble maker. I don’t really blame her though. Abandoned by her father to live with her grandmother, she is pretty sheltered. She isn’t allowed to go hang out with friends…

If you’re looking for a YA mystery with an interesting premise and cast of characters, you need not look far because Liars Inc pretty much distinguishes itself from the rest effortlessly. I mean, look at the following factors and I dare you not to get excited, because I’m pretty sure you will:

✓ A male hero that actually feels like an authentic male hero ✓ A half-Indian love interest who is so comfortable with her sensuality ✓ A premise that revolves around lies and covering one’s ass with more lies ✓ A whodunit murder mystery that involves getting arrested by the FBI (or, trying not to)…

Okay, maybe the last bit is something we’ve seen a couple of times in other books, but the first three are stuff I haven’t seen yet,…

I’m very happy to welcome O’Dell Hutchison on the blog today after the release of his newest book, Fingers in the Mist. I had the chance to read this way back before it got published and I loved it! If you love horror this one is not to be missed! Here’s a bit more about the book, and then O’Dell will tell us how doomed we all are!

Surviving in the Face of a Redeemer… or Not.

The normal, everyday Joe would not be able to survive a Redeemer. In fact, until Caitlyn came along, no one has ever (to the knowledge of the townsfolk of Highland Falls) been able to survive them. The rules are simple:

First of all,…

This book was a solid 4-stars at first, but once the intriguing factor wore off I just got bored and then confused. It’s a good premise, but one that was executed much better in a few other books I’ve read: Just Like Fate and Pivot Point. The “what if” is a question that many can’t help but consider. In Fiona’s case, what if she had never had that accident that left her scarred? It’s interesting to see how an event like that changes someone, or how different their lives would be had in not happened. Unfortunately, once this initial curious factor wears off, the novel starts to become quite mundane, with characters who are not easily likeable.

Told in alternating perspectives, we get Fiona’s story who was tragically scarred at…
