Book Girls Don’t Cry… Or Read ALL Of The Novellas

Book Girls Don’t Cry is a feature where we will discuss/vent/advise on a bookish topic. This feature is co-hosted with the lovely Amy at Book Loving Mom.

I am super excited about this BGDC post this week.  A few weeks ago I got together with my good friend Stella (It’s Too Late To Apologize) and we had a very bookish afternoon.  We drank awesome tea (which I drove around my city to find the following day) and we talked books.  What was going to be an hour long vlog shoot, turned into a 5 hour chat session on her couch.  Right after we decided that this is going to be something we have to do way more often so I will have more of these vlogs to share with you in the future.

When we were discussing what we wanted to talk about in this video we decided we wanted to talk about novellas.  Neither of us are big novella readers but there is a definite upward swing in the trend of these little in between books lately and we thought we would discuss our thoughts on them and our feelings about the few we have read.  So watch on to see where this went. Caution: lots of laughing, some yelling, and even some *gasp* profanity ahead.

What are your thoughts about novellas?

We’re looking for topic suggestions for future BGDC posts! What would YOU like to discuss (can be anything from vents to advice)?

To Friend, or Not to Friend?

How do you decide if you approve or ignore (deny) friend requests on Goodreads  – or other bookish sites? Do you automatically add everyone who requests, or are you meticulous with your friends list like I am?

Am I just picky and anal and, in turn, a bitch for not approving everyone? How about those who don’t even bother answering the friending question? That has to be my #1 pet peeve about Goodreads friending. I actually have a question set up just to easily identify those who are spamming friend requests to every single Goodreads user….

Book Girls Don’t Cry is a feature where we will discuss/vent/advise on a bookish topic. This feature is co-hosted with the lovely Amy at Book Loving Mom. Sorry, They’re Ours!

Since today is valentine’s day, we decided to go a bit lovey dovey and tell the world who our book boyfriends were, just so, you know, no one else can have em. Muahaha. So we decided to limit ourselves to 5 each so this was HARD and we both have plenty of book boys who would have easily made this list!

3 Stars – Good or Bad?

What does a 3-star rating mean to you? When I rate a book 3-stars, I’ve noticed some people think I did not like it, while in reality I did like it, it was just missing some kind of element to make it “great”. At worst – low end of 3-star – it would mean I was a disappointed with it (mostly due to expectations), but I still don’t consider those bad books. I noticed this because almost every time I post a 3-star review, I get comments on it that go something like “I’m sorry you…

Book Girls Don’t Cry is a feature where we will discuss/vent/advise on a bookish topic. This feature is co-hosted with the lovely Amy at Book Loving Mom. This week on for BGDC I am talking about lending books.  What my policies are when I do and my pet peeves about the habit.  Since my New Year’s resolution was to get back into vlogging this year I have recorded a vlog for the topic.  That being said, I realize that this post is going up on a Monday and that some readers will be at work and unable to watch the vlog so I will also be typing out a quick recap of the video at the bottom.  This quick recap is also for the people who just don’t want to…

My Holiday in Books!

The holidays are here (holy crap, right?) – how do you usually spend yours? We have a huge family gathering on Christmas eve where we usually do fun gift exchange games and eat a lot chocolate and other junk food- catching up with family I don’t see often is the best, though. Then Christmas itself is bound to be a lot of fun with my 3 and a half year old in tow. He’s already super excited and this is the fist year that he sort of “gets” it before it’s here. Then it’s just a lot more food,…

Books Are For Giving! (And reading – duh!)

Are you ever stumped as to what to give a certain person for Christmas? This week on Book Girls Don’t Cry we’re making a list of the books that we think would be prefect to give to basically everyone and anyone! Now I’m going to assume that the obvious ones were already read by all (Hunger Games, Harry Potter, etc) so for sake of originality I won’t put em in this list. If someone hasn’t read these yet – Shame on them!!

Holiday-themed books: Yay or Nay?

Ever since the holiday season arrived (quite suddenly), I’m sure you’ve noticed those holiday-themed books going around, and I realized I have never read a holiday-themed book, ever! I don’t know exactly why, to be honest, but nothing has really attracted me to them. I figure because most of them are romance stories and that has never been my go-to genre. My go-to genres are darker reads so, yeah, not very Christmassy >.< Though I am curious about them. What’s your opinion on them? Do you love them? Dislike them? Do they really give out that warn, fuzzy, happy…
