My Holiday in Books!

The holidays are here (holy crap, right?) – how do you usually spend yours? We have a huge family gathering on Christmas eve where we usually do fun gift exchange games and eat a lot chocolate and other junk food- catching up with family I don’t see often is the best, though. Then Christmas itself is bound to be a lot of fun with my 3 and a half year old in tow. He’s already super excited and this is the fist year that he sort of “gets” it before it’s here. Then it’s just a lot more food, a lot of family, a lot of relaxing, cuddling, and all of those good things! Obviously this is my favorite time of the year! 🙂

I will also be on a well deserved vacation from work for 2 whole weeks which will not only be freaking awesome, but it will give me plenty of time to do some reading! Xpresso Reads will be on a holiday hiatus, too, the week of Christmas. I do have a giveaway or 2 pre-scheduled to go up, however 😉 Once the presents are exchanged and the turkeys are eaten, I will be diving into a book or 2.

Here is my to-read list for my holiday vacation:
I can’t say that I will tread 100% of these books, but my plan is to try!

I *should* be able to read 8 books in a 2 weeks vacation I’d say 🙂 These are actually mostly ARCs that have been burning my shelves because I had to wait til closer to release to read them, and now I can so EEEP! Well okay a couple are further off but whatevs I’m cheating it’s the holidays >.<

What are some of your holiday plans this year?
What books are you going to be reading during the holidays?

We’re looking for topic suggestions for future BGDC posts! What would YOU like to discuss (can be anything from vents to advice)?

Books Are For Giving! (And reading – duh!)

Are you ever stumped as to what to give a certain person for Christmas? This week on Book Girls Don’t Cry we’re making a list of the books that we think would be prefect to give to basically everyone and anyone! Now I’m going to assume that the obvious ones were already read by all (Hunger Games, Harry Potter, etc) so for sake of originality I won’t put em in this list. If someone hasn’t read these yet – Shame on them!!

Holiday-themed books: Yay or Nay?

Ever since the holiday season arrived (quite suddenly), I’m sure you’ve noticed those holiday-themed books going around, and I realized I have never read a holiday-themed book, ever! I don’t know exactly why, to be honest, but nothing has really attracted me to them. I figure because most of them are romance stories and that has never been my go-to genre. My go-to genres are darker reads so, yeah, not very Christmassy >.< Though I am curious about them. What’s your opinion on them? Do you love them? Dislike them? Do they really give out that warn, fuzzy, happy…

What does the guinea pig say?

As a blogger, we’re the ones who often get first look at books. We read and read and say yay or nay so that future readers can make pretty good guesses on which book will be worth their time and hard earn pennies. But… is it becoming rarer to say yay? Are we guinea pigs?

I won’t lie and say ARCs are not fun to have. It’s definitely a pretty cool privilege of being a book blogger, especially when an ARC is one you have been pining for and are pretty sure it will rock your socks…

Do  you like em big? Or not so big?

Sorry – this is not a post about male genitalia *crowd boos*. But now that I have your attention, what’s your opinion on the size of books? Do you like big books (and you can not lie)? Or do you prefer reading shorter ones? Has it changed since blogging?

Am I the only one who, before getting on Goodreads (or blogger) didn’t even know just HOW many great books were out there? So weird how much that changed! Before, the size of a book was not something I even considered. I would browse in…

Ebook or Paperbook – the big debate

Do you have preference on the form you read? I know some prefer reading ebooks above everything else, and others will argue that nothing will ever replace the print book. Do you think print books would ever become extinct? I don’t personally, but who knows?

In favor of eBooks: In some cases I will like print books better, but in others the ebook wins. For instance, if I’m reading at night I prefer reading on my Kobo because it has a light, whereas a print book I need to sit where my lamp is and…

The Big Bad DNF

How are you with DNFing books? Is this something you do at the first sign of not liking a book? Or are you the type to refuse to do it at all? Today we’re talking about the big sin of not finishing a book! *gasp*

When/Why I DNF I used to be the type who would never not finish a book. No matter how much I didn’t like it I would pull through and finish it. This was before I was a blogger, though, and not being a guinea pig for new books meant I only read those…

Nothing in Life is Free?

On this week’s Book Girls Don’t Cry we’re talking money! Is blogging free? Is any hobby free? Very very few of them are, unless you are a very boring person whose hobby consists of staring at walls… or something. To me, blogging is a hobby just like car modeling, hunting, gaming, etc. Blogging is cheap in comparison to those – if it costs anything at all, other than your time of course.

Books: Some consider buying books a cost of blogging, but I don’t agree. Books is a cost of being a reader in general. And actually,…
