Jenni’s Goodbye!

Heya folks!

It feels like just yesterday I was helping to compose my welcome to Xpresso Reads post, ah the memories! With that fond statement I’m here to say that the times they are a changin’ once again here on the blog.  I haven’t been feeling blogging as of late and  I’ve been pursuing some other interests and tasks so I feel really pressed for time (see all the recently finished furniture on my Instagram!) So I am going to be saying goodbye to blogging, maybe for a while and maybe for good.  I will definitely still be reading and doing mini reviews on Goodreads but I won’t be doing it as frequently as before.

In my time blogging I not only made so many great friends, but my eyes were opened to a whole section of the internet that I didn’t even know existed.  I had no idea it was possible to become so close with the authors I love and the publishers they work with.  Even though things weren’t always the most positive (every community has it’s fair share of drama right?) this is the most welcoming blogosphere I can imagine.  I also came to expand my reading horizons and had so many books brought into my life that I probably would have never taken a glance at if it wasn’t for my involvement with book blogging.  What brought those to my attention and made all of this worthwhile really is the people, and although it started to feel like a full time job it was one that I was so happy to do (until now!) because of each and every person I met along the way.

The one thing that has made me afraid to walk away from blogging for so long is that I am so scared of losing all of the friends that I have made on this journey.  I can’t even think of the number of people I have become close with, whether it’s on Twitter or from visiting their blogs, and I don’t want to feel disconnected from anybody.  I cherish these relationships and want them to continue to grow in the years to come.  I especially thought my co-blogger here was going to smack me one, but she knows she can’t get rid of me too easily, I have your number Giselle! MWAHAHAHAHA! You are not only my co-blogger but you have become a friend that I hope to have for life, and yes, ONE DAY WE WILL MEET! When it really comes down to it Jessica of Literary Etc. said it best when she said “I’m sure you won’t lose any friends. Books may have brought friendships, but other interests kept them around. :)” I hope this is true and that everyone still keeps in touch with me!

Be sure to remember my links to Goodreads and Twitter (note the handle change) so that we can stay in touch!

Tour: The Art of Getting Stared at by Laura Langston

Tour: The Art of Getting Stared at by Laura Langston

I am so excited to be able to take part in the blog tour for The Art of Getting Stared At by Laura Langston. This book had such an important message that I think needs to be shared with girls of ALL ages. The unifying theme of this tour is for each participant to share what we would tell our younger self about body image/confidence if we had the opportunity to go back in time and do so. I would love to be able to go back to myself in high school and get it into my teen self’s head that the opinion of the people around me isn’t going to matter in a few years and that I should just make sure I am happy with myself and not…

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews featuring the books we got this week, and I also mention blog news/happenings of the past week. Happy long weekend, everyone! I hope you’re enjoying it, and those who are going back to school – enjoy your last days of freedom >.< Did you stop by the blog this week? I talked about what books I seriously want to read but don’t even own yet on this week’s TTT! And Jenni blessed us with her face in a vlog where she talks about swearing in books, find it here if you missed it. Now let’s see what bookish goodies I got this week! 🙂

Review: Made For You by Melissa Marr

Review: Made For You by Melissa Marr

Last year I went to my first ever book signing and was so excited to get to meet quite a few authors at the event. One of the authors was Melissa Marr and I was so curious when I saw hoe many die hard fans of hers were there. I thought to myself “I need to read a book by this lady and see what she’s all about!” I failed to do so until this past week and I am now so happy that I finally gave one of her novels a go.

Made For You is being pretty aggressively pitched as her first foray into contemporary and that it’s a gothic novel. Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I would not shelf this novel…

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews featuring new additions to our bookshelves.

Hey! It’s been a while since I’ve done a Stacking post! I hadn’t gotten any books when my turn came around last time so I skipped it but I got some goodies for this time around.  I haven’t been doing much reading at all lately, I’ve been renovating my kitchen and it’s that time of year when I actually have a job for a few weeks so I’ve been pretty busy.  Today we are headed to West Edmonton Mall Waterpark with the kiddo’s so I don’t think I’ll get any reading done today either.  With that said I am still adding to the ever growing TBR, here is what I’ve got…

Awww! What a cute and sweet read. A Little Something Different is exactly that – a romance story that is different from any I’ve read before, and one that leaves you with a silly smile on your face. The perfect rainy-day read, that’s for sure!

In short, this is a love story about two people who keep misreading each other. One is extremely shy, the other is quiet and reluctant, not realizing they’re both into each other. What makes this book unique, though, is the way it’s told. We don’t go into this story with the perspective of our main characters, but rather everyone around them, even including a squirrel and a bench who, unsurprisingly, talks a lot about butts. The number of perspectives is at a whopping 14, rotating…

When I think about what I want to say about Jellicoe Road all that comes to mind is that I can’t believe that this amazing novel was sitting under my nose for so long. It’s really making me think about ARC requesting and prompting me to look at my overflowing TBR shelf and wonder what other gems are in there.

This novel came into my life a while ago in a gift from my lovely co-blogger and it sat on my shelf all lonely and cold for far too long. Upon tweeting about a slump that I was in Bekka of Great Imaginations told me to finally pick it up and I am so happy that she did. From the very beginning I was wrapped up in the writing…

Review: Landline by Rainbow Rowell

Review: Landline by Rainbow Rowell

Landline is different from what I expected: first of all it’s an adult book which I only realized when I started it, but this is totally my fault and also not a bad thing. I was due for an adult book. And, unlike her usual contemporary reads, this one has a bit of a paranormal vibe to it. I’m not sure how I felt about this at first, I loved the mind-f*ck nature of it, but it has an element that very rarely impresses me [time-travel], so I was afraid of the direction it was going in. In the end, though, I can say I quite enjoyed the story. It has a bit of a fairy-tale quality to it, so have to go into it with an open mind, but…
