What I’ve Been Reading: January Update

I’ve never done a roundup. But, if you’ve been following along, you’ll know that I challenged myself to read more sequels and more backlist books this year. I started 2018 by doing a cleanse of my Goodreads TBR shelf. I got rid of 300 books on there and it’s still a work in progress. I’ve also realized that for me to truly catch up on all the sequels, I need to SERIES so I’ll have to work on that this year too!
I read 6 sequels in January!!! There are still 139 more to go (plus even more as I add more sequels) BUT at this pace, I might read around 60 sequels in total this year which is NOT BAD AT ALL.
The first three have been on my TBR for a LONG time. Palace of Stone since 2012 so someone give me a high five for being a good kid. Out of these sequels, Don’t Judge a Girl By Her Cover was my favorite. It took me by surprise because I didn’t love the previous book BUT you know, don’t judge a series by one book 😉
In January, I read 7 books that had been on my TBR for a while. Most of these books had been on my TBR for upwards of 3 years. One of them for 5 years. I KNOW. I AM PROUD OF ME TOO. But, also, 2 of these were one star reads and one was a two star read so… past me really didn’t make the best decisions with her TBR.
Out of these, I am happiest to have read Old Magic. It wasn’t my highest rated or the one I loved the most but it has been on my TBR for a LONG time and I was genuinely happy to have read it. I also just missed old school YA and ended up re-reading 5 books from my past as a result of the nostalgia.
I broke my reading boundaries by starting Saga. These comics are a SENSATION but I am not really a comic reader. GLAD I READ THIS THO because I am jumping on this bandwagon. I LOVE MY BABIES.
These are published (and two recently published) books I’ve read this year that have under 1000 ratings on Goodreads and deserve more love!
I discovered Last Night, A Superhero Saved My Life by accident and I have no idea why it has so little ratings! The collection is pretty homogenous in terms of the writers but a lot of the essays were so personal and moving. I like almost cried 4 times. It was an honor to read about such personal things from these authors lives.
