Having read and really enjoyed a novel by this author under a mysterious other name (Oh I’m on to her!) I’m happy to have Reese Monroe on the blog today to talk about her newest book, Forged by Fate, which has just released this week through Entangled. Let’s have a look at what it’s all about and then we’ll give the blog floor to her!

He’s waited more than 900 years to love her…

Being the Gatekeeper to Hades is no small feat, and waiting almost a millennia to meet your mate is damn near impossible. But Theo Bradford’s mark has finally surfaced on his intended. Now all he has to do is find her and convince her to embrace her supernatural heritage.

Young genius, Sadie Nowland, has got life figured out. Graduating college at the age of eighteen and accepting a six-figure job is just what she needs to prove she’s made something of herself. But when a strange tattoo mysteriously appears on her shoulder and Theo starts talking about Mates, it catapults her neatly laid out life into chaos.

Somehow a vicious demon banished to Hades defies Theo’s vanquish and returns, setting his target on Sadie, and she is thrust into the volatile world of Shomrei warriors and a connection to Theo her brain can’t comprehend and her body can’t deny. That primal bond proves more imperative to their survival than either could have ever imagined—and just may be the key to the world’s survival.

Favorite Part of Writing Forged by Fate

I really enjoyed writing Forged by Fate, mostly because I love the characters so much. It’s difficult to pick a favorite part of the story, but I’m going to have to say I loved writing Sadie.
This part in particular:

“I feel your turmoil.” He leaned down, so close his breath tickled her face.
She couldn’t stop her tongue from sliding out to moisten her lips. God she wanted him to kiss her.
That was so not like her, either.
“I can help,” he whispered, leaning even closer. “Do you trust me?”
“Yes.” The answer came out before she could rein it in. How could she trust him? She barely knew him. “Yes.”
He smiled, and his gaze shifted to her lips. “Allow me a kiss, then.”
She almost said “anything,” but found her control. She inched up to her tiptoes as she nodded. If anyone was doing the kissing, it’d be her.

Sadie Nowland is turning eighteen on the day she graduates from undergraduate classes. Yes, she’s a genius, but she’s also very broken. Left at a group shelter only hours after her birth, she’s been alone. Never adopted, abnormally strong, super smart…Not to mention, she has a black belt in karate.

It was fun writing those unique features into her character because they gave me so much to work with.

Then add a 911-year-old Shomrei Gatekeeper of Hades, claiming to be her fated Mate, into the mix…The concept just didn’t compute with her scientist-wired mind. And that made it even more fun to write her character.

Conflict between the heart and mind can sometimes be an epic battle. And with Sadie, who is strong, self-sufficient, and focused, it was fun to work through as she faced the unexplained matters of the heart and soul such as hope, faith, and love.

I’m curious. What’s your favorite part of a romance novel? The first meeting? The first kiss? Their first fight? Or maybe the make-up scene after that first fight…

Review: Omens by Kelley Armstrong

Review: Omens by Kelley Armstrong

Omen is very much the first in its series, it is also very much a Kelley Armstrong book. Not to say it’s anything like her other work as it’s actually quite different, but in terms of wonderfully crafted characters, a world you can see yourself walk the grounds of, and an all-around compelling story, its got the Kelley signature on every page. This is what I’ve come to expect of her novels, and Omens was not an exception.

Omens tells the story of a young woman with a seemingly perfect life; wealthy, career-driven, intelligent, about to marry a man with an important political career ahead. She had an incredible life ahead of her. Then she – along with the whole world – finds out who her real parents are:…

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week:

Ok so maybe she brought her Sookie series a few books too far but they are so much fun and especially readable. I just really like her writing style and characters. Plus this blurb is giving me goosebumps so that’s a win so far!

What are you waiting on, this week?

From lack of excitement to a protagonist I despised to a very bizarre romantic arc, I was happy to be done with this one. To paint a quick picture: the only interesting part of this book is in the blurb.

Darkest Fear starts with an intriguing Jaguar Shape-shifting lore that, for the most part, is well crafted. The narrative when in Jaguar form is particularly clever. I was certain it was the promising start of an impressive series, especially when only a few chapters in, something monumental happens. Something ominous that proposes an epic mystery to come. However, once this scene passes we get a whole lot of mundane happenings, from Vivi finding a job, to her day to day life, to detailed scenes of her baking various things. How…

Ten reasons why everyone wants to be an Aquarathi by Amalie Howard

You can have the best of both worlds—you can live on land and underwater. You are at the top of the marine food chain. No kidding. You are the king of the underwater pride rock—the buffet is open. You can manipulate water in any form—technically called hydro-projection or glimmering. Think how handy that’ll be if you need to put a fire out….

I’ve got a great guest on the blog today, lovelies! Kathleen Peacock is here today as part of the Thornhill blog tour to talk to us about Werewolves vs Vampires in the most hilarious – and realistic – way! First let’s have a look at what I thought of this gorgeous sequel!

The long anticipated sequel to Hemlock arriving at my door was no doubt the highlight of my week. I greedily tore into it a few days later, bringing me back into the turbulent lives of Mac, Kyle, and Jason. As usual with sequels, I think I would have loved it more had there not been such a large gap of time between reading this book and its predecessor. Things did eventually…

With such an addicting writing style I can see why this author has made a ton of fans from her previous books, Vicious was my first by Victoria but it definitely will not be my last. In fact, I already have The Archived on its way to me!

First to note should be that this book is not YA, it’s Victoria’s first adult book. Characters are in their 30s and you can tell by the maturity of the storytelling (which is ruthless and violent). Personally, I was pleasantly surprised as I was well overdue for an adult book, particularly a merciless paranormal read such as this. Vicious is ultimately a story of revenge. It’s told in an unusual time lapse, where we don’t have a story from A to Z,…
