Waiting on Wednesday
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
With October upon us, my WoWs this month will feature books that would be perfect for a Halloween read.

My pick this week:
                                    The Calling (Darkness Rising, #2)
                                    Kelley Armstrong
                                    Release date: April 10th, 2012

Maya Delaney’s paw-print birthmark is the sign of what she truly is—a skin-walker. She can run faster, climb higher, and see better than nearly anyone else. Experiencing intense connections with the animals that roam the woods outside her home, Maya knows it’s only a matter of time before she’s able to Shift and become one of them. And she believes there may be others in her small town with surprising talents.

Now, Maya and her friends have been forced to flee from their homes during a forest fire they suspect was deliberately set. Then they’re kidnapped, and after a chilling helicopter crash, they find themselves in the Vancouver Island wilderness with nothing but their extraordinary abilities to help them get back home.

I loved The Darkest Powers trilogy by Kelley Armstrong and I was very excited when I heard she was writing a sister series starting with The Gathering, which I loved (read my review here), and I’m really looking forward to finding out how things play in book 2. I can always count on Kelley to dish out awesome books. I’ve enjoyed everything of hers. If you’ve never looked into her books go check it out. This is her YA stuff, but she also had a great adult series – Women of the Underworld that I recommend.

What are you eagerly awaiting this week?

Sooooo I am not waiting for this one… because I’m not a big Kelly Armstrong fan when it comes to her YA… But, I’m glad you like it haha 😀

  2. Ashley @ Bookaholics Anonymous

I just started getting her adult series. I have book 1 so I have a ways to go, but I also have the first book in this series that a friend got signed for me back in april for my birthday so I’ll have to get to that. The I have her other YA trilogy. So needless to say I have a few of her books. 🙂

I couldn’t agree with you more Giselle! Plus, it’s been told that some of the characters from Darkest Powers may be dropping in at some point during Darkest Rising so I’m really excited there!
    Awesome pick!

I just finished The Gathering, and I am so excited for this one! But before I continue the series, I’m going to read her Darkest Powers Trilogy. I want to know who Chloe is, and what I missed from the first one.

Top of my to be read pile. Great pick! Thanks for commenting on ours. New follower!

I haven’t read any Kelley Armstrong yet – I’m a little intimidated by all the series’, they all seem to intertwine and I’m afraid I’ll get lost in there. This one looked like a good place to start though, I’ve been thinking about picking up The Gathering.

I’ve read Kelley Armstrong’s Darkest Power Trilogy but I still have yet to read the Gathering, I’m kind of iffy about it because the ending for the previous trilogy wasn’t so great.

    – Thanks for stopping by earlier!

This looks good, even though I haven’t heard of this series before. The cover draws you in. Thanks for sharing! I like that you’re doing WoWs with Halloween themes.

    Hi Giselle:)

Thanks for visiting my post today!

I love your book choice for this week. I’ve finally managed to get my hands on Kelley’s Darkest Powers trilogy and have heard so much about them so I can’t wait to sink in. I’m hoping to pick up The Gathering soon after and I’m sure it’ll be great. I hope The Calling is as good as you hope it will be.

I’ve yet to read any of Kelley’s books, but I recently got my hands on The Gathering and can’t wait to dive in soon! So glad you love her books, definitely encouraging me to bump them up on my TBR 🙂

  24. eclectophilia

I’ve seen this around but the cover made me go “meh”, too boring-monochrome, too perfectly-photoshopped-vacant-model-stare with not enough personality left to draw me in. Now that I’ve bothered to read a synopsis though this sounds all kinds of awesome! (Vancouver Island ftw!) Now I just need to figure out where to start. If this is a sequal I need book one, but if it’s a sister series I will compulsively need to read the one written first. Oh my, I think I just added… 5 books or 6, to my tbr list.
