Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week:

Waiting on Wednesday (88) The Girl With All The Gifts by M.J. Carey
Published by Orbit on March 27th 2014
Genres: Fantasy
Goodreads

Melanie is a very special girl. Dr Caldwell calls her 'our little genius'. Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favourite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up. Melanie doesn't know why this makes Miss Justineau look sad.

Did you read that blurb? There’s just something about it that calls to me. It’s so vague, yet so intriguing! I also hear this author is pretty great though I haven’t read any of his other work.

What are you waiting on?

Wow, that blurb is weird, kinda disturbing and intriguing for sure! The cover also makes you want to read the blurb as does the title. Ahhh, I don’t know how you keep finding these books.. LOL.

  2. Mary @ BookSwarm

I’m so into this…just because I have NO IDEA what’s really going on! Is she a little girl Incredible Hulk who will kill them all when she gets mad? I JUST DON’T KNOW!!

  3. Megan (Ink Skies)

Even though that blurb literally tells me NOTHING about the book, I can’t help but feel a little spooked out. What are these “things” the girl tells her teacher she wants to do when she grows up? Murder people? Torture them? Pluck out their fingernails one by one?! I hadn’t heard of this before now, so thanks for putting it on my radar, Giselle!

  4. Savannah

It vague yet intriguing. It also sounds like this girl has no idea what is actually going on. I am….wanting more. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Mandi Kaye

I really want to read this. I hadn’t heard of it before, but something about that creepy and ambiguous blurb just calls to me. Thanks for sharing!

  6. Nereyda @Mostly YA Book Obsessed

This cover isn’t scary…so why does it creep me the hell out? I think it’s her hands. They look like she’s either coming after you to either give you a hug or to hurt you. Definitely creepy, definitely your kind of book!

  7. Micheline @ Lunar Rainbows

As vague as that blurb might be for some reason it TOTALLY gave me the heebie-jeebies o.O Bleh, it sounds deceptively innocent and seriously creepy! Not my cup of tea (obviously) but I hope it blows you away sweetness!

  8. Kara @ Great Imaginations

I am afraid of this book. I don’t think I will be reading this one. It sounds like it will be more disturbing than anything, and surprisingly, I don’t get that much enjoyment out of that. I’m looking forward to the buzz though.
