Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week:

Waiting on Wednesday (91)The Here and Now by Ann Brashares
Published by Delacorte Press on April 8th 2014
Genres: Sci-Fi, YA
Goodreads

Follow the rules. Remember what happened. Never fall in love.

Thrilling, exhilarating, haunting, and heartbreaking, The Here and Now is a twenty-first-century take on an impossible romance. Ann Brashares’ first novel for teens since The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is about a girl from the future who might be able to save the world . . . if she lets go of the one thing she’s found to hold on to.

Meet seventeen-year-old Prenna James, who immigrated to New York when she was twelve. Except Prenna didn’t come from a different country. She came from a different time—a future where a mosquito-borne illness has mutated into a pandemic, killing millions and leaving the world in ruins.

Prenna and the others who escaped to the present day must follow a strict set of rules: never reveal where they’re from, never interfere with history, and never, ever be intimate with anyone outside their community. Prenna does as she’s told, believing she can help prevent the plague that will one day ravage the earth. But everything changes when she falls for Ethan Jarves.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS! WEEEEEE! The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is an all-time favorite of mine. I also adored Sisterhood Everlasting which was like the “10 years later” book, so as soon as I saw her name on an upcoming series I may have squealed a little. It’s very different from anything she’s written before, but it sounds amazing and I have high hopes for this one!

What are you waiting on?

Oh wow! I’ve never heard of the author, Giselle. But time travel had always been a weakness of mine. This seems like a very good read.

I have heard of Ann and her The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants but I didn’t get to read it. Maybe I was still moping about HP during that time.

Anyway, I’ve shelved this book in my Want-to-read pile.

    Thanks for sharing!

WOOAAH. Okay so I have to admit that I haven’t read anything by Ann but shh this one sounds so good! At first I thought it was going to be a typical sci-fi but it actually sounds unique. AND THAT COVER IS TO DIE FOR. Fantabulous pick, Giselle!

I have The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants somewhere in my closet from where I shoved it there and then forgot about it, but maybe I should read that one and then focus in on this one. The sci-fi aspect is definitely different and I hope that the book lives up to your expectations, I can so see your excitement 🙂

    Fantastic pick, Giselle! <33

I haven’t read the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants yet, but I love the cover for this book. It’s really pretty. But I’m not a huge fan of time travel books, so I’m not sure if I’ll want to read it or not. However, I’ll admit that the concept sounds intriguing.
    Thanks for sharing, Giselle!

Mosquito born illness?!! OMG that freaks me out! I’m terrified of West Nile right now because it’s in my area. I will barely let the kiddo play outside. This sounds good. I saw the cover for it, but hadn’t read the synopsis.

Oh great choice!! I ADORES the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants books, and I’m dying to see what else she’s got up her sleeve. Yeah, I wonder how she’ll do sci-fi…

    Here’s my Wow.

Oh, how intriguing! I had no idea she had a new book coming, and one with such an intriguing story. It sounds different from the Sisterhood for sure!

A time travel story and something that sounds like it could really happen… sounds good! It does have a nice cover too… great pick!

it is quite different from this author. I haven’t read all her books, but I did like the Sisterhood books I read when I was younger. Hopefully this one will be good too!

I haven’t read the Sisterhood book, but this ones sounds so interesting! Time travel… I need to add it to the TBR list! Thank you for sharing this one!

Oh my god. I DIDN’T KNOW SHE HAD A NEW BOOK COMING OUT!
Thank you so much for sharing this!!!!!
(Sorry I happen to be a huge fan of hers so don’t mind my overenthusiastic reaction)

This does sound super different from what she normally writes… I’m not the hugest Traveling Pants fan but I blame that on the fact that I read it over a decade too late (it’s really one of those I think should be appreciated in your early years) but this sounds really good. Great pick!
