From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a new novel about risking everything for love—and finding your heart somewhere between the truth and lies.

Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.

For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover Owen is keeping major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.

The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…

Interview with Colleen Hoover

Hi Colleen! Thanks so much for dropping by my little space on the web! Hopeless was the first New Adult book I ever read and I absolutely loved it! But today let’s talk about your newest release – Confess! 🙂

Let’s start with giving us a brief description of Confess using only 2 sentences.

Boy meets girl. Crap, I’m out of sentences.

What was the whole confessions part like – the book mentions they’re actual confessions you received – did you get some that will haunt you forever, and those you read as a feel-good reminder?

I honestly didn’t think many people would participate, but I was overwhelmed with how many confessions I received. And still to this day I receive one or two a day, even though the book has been finished for nine months.

My heart broke with a lot of them, but the overwhelming majority of the confessions dealt with infidelity. So I picked one or two of those out and then tried to choose ones that fit the theme of the book, or the scene they were written in.

Your characters always have the best chemistry, what’s your secret to writing such compelling romances/relationships?

I honestly don’t know. I don’t have a secret to developing characters. To me, I just have to keep writing and fleshing them out through drafts until they actually become their own individual personalities. Once I get to that point, it doesn’t feel like I’m making stuff up. It feels like I’m sitting in a room with two people over my shoulder and they’re telling me their story.

Want to be daring and share some of your (writing-themed) confessions?

I can’t write a single word of a book unless I know I have at least three solid days to lock myself up. I can’t get in the zone easily, and once I’m there I need at least 48 hours of solid writing.

I’ve been in the zone for three days. It’s Wednesday morning and I haven’t slept since I woke up Monday morning. I go on 48 hour writing binges and then crash for an entire day.

I used to drink nothing but Diet Pepsi while I wrote, but I’m trying to pick up healthier habits. Now I down a lot of water while I write and use the Diet Pepsi as rewards for finishing up chapters. I notice I work harder this way.

I have to have complete silence when I write. I go so far as to even pull batteries out of clocks and unplug refrigerators.

I love this interview. I absolutely adored Confess. And to hear Colleen’s answers to the questions is amazing. I heard a few people comment on how they didn’t like the cheating in the book. Hearing Colleen say that a majority of the confessions were related to infidelity just substantiated my mindset of how REAL her stories always are. Yes, it’s true that I’m a hater of cheating in real life… but let’s face it, it happens. So reading such a compelling story written by such an insanely-talented author brought it all home for me. 🙂

Those confessions are going to haunt me for the rest of my life! Some of them were pretty dreadful, but they were also thought provoking. The complete silence that Colleen needs while writing is me while reading. I can’t stand any kind of noise when I’m reading.
    Thanks for sharing, Giselle!

I absolutely adored the ‘confessons’ part of Confess. Some of the one had me absolutely mortified, but they did make me think. The fact that CoHo says most of the confessions she recieved were for infideliy has me really disturbed and freaked out. Lovely review Giselle.

I’ve been hearing a lot of great things about this book. I really need to check it out. I think the most interesting part is that there are real confessions in there. That for me is what really snagged me on this one.

LOVE this insight into my NA Queen!!! Thought it was sad, telling and interesting that the majority of confessions involved infidelity! R x
