HELP WANTED!

Posted by 38 Comments

help!

…and it has been ongoing for almost a month now.

I honestly don’t know what’s wrong with me. The last proper book I’ve read was Sweep in Peace and Winter, which were very amazing exemptions because the weeks prior to that, I haven’t been able to read anything awesome-worthy until now. Yes, I’ve reviewed some, but those were books I’ve already read before my life entered this abyss called the “bookworm slump”, and it’s been an awful, terribly ride, let me tell you. You know, it’s so weird for me to be this way considering I usually have a lot of tips for those who are in the same predicament:

  • read your favorite books! It will reignite your reading again! —> Only that I tried, and yet I still can’t get into reading. -_-
  • take a long-ass break! Soon you’ll miss reading, and come back to it! —> My break has already gone on for too long.
  • take up a new hobby! Try crafting or gaming or collecting stamps! —> I’m already on World of Warcraft, Everquest 2, Guild Wars 2, and a couple of Playstation games and it’s sucking my hours fast… if I don’t get into reading soon, my games might never let me leave from their clutches forever! (I kid, I kid)

SO WHY THE HECK ARE THEY NOT WORKING ON ME NOW?!

I think this week alone, I’ve given up on a total of 5 books. Some of them were really bad, some of them just didn’t appeal to me however amazing they seemed. I’m really in a crisis here, folks – I haven’t reviewed anything properly for almost a week now (my last review was a DNF review out of desperation… hah!).

So this is where you guys come in.

I NEED YOUR HELP.

I need you, the lovely people of this book community, to recommend me books that you think I would like. It can be erotica, young adult, or adult, I don’t care as long as they are in these genres: science fiction, fantasy, urban fantasy, adventure, mystery, psychological thriller. Please help me get out of this god-forsaken book slump by giving me that FANTASTIC, ALL-AMAZING BOOK that I would rise from the dead for.

I’ll be waiting patiently,

Faye

The Journey of Rashika as a Reader (pre and post blogging)

I think it’s appropriate that for my first official post here, I talk about me as a ~reader~.

I have been a life-long reader. I’ve been reading for such a long time that I don’t even know what it would be like to not read. When people say they don’t like to read, I just look at them and go WHAAAAT?? How is that even possible?

I started reading when I was around 6 years old. I didn’t speak English fluently, so I had all sorts of books pushed at me to help improve my language skills. Of course, I seemed to have caught on very quickly and my second grade teacher even wrote that I had a true love for reading in my report card! I still have that…

Hello (not the song by Adele) from Rashika…

In a kingdom far far away there lived a person named Rashika. She sometimes talked to people and other times she hid. Now, you are going to have to deal with her all because she will be taking over Xpresso Reads with her telepathic powers.

But on a more serious note… SURPRISE.

I am going to be joining the amazing crew at Xpresso Reads and blogging here from time to time. Here is a little itty-bit about me to those who do not know of my existence (how dare you, btw?)

-My name is Rashika -I am in college, majoring in English Literature. -I am a huge booknerd (I mean how much more obvious can that be?) -I also blog over at The Social Potato with Faye (who blogs…

Super Favoritisticexpialidocious!

In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters: I can not even believe this book was a debut novel! It just stunned me by how wonderfully written it was! It’s one of those books that could prove to any hater that YA def. has some gems! Crewel by Gennifer Albin: Holy mother of giraffe balls! That is all. The Last Bastion of the Living by Rhiannon Frater: This was just insanely awesome and unique and brilliant! And this reminds me I have yet to read the companion novel she recently released *slaps self* This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers: This…

Favorite genre fail!

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson: I hear this is like the best contemporary book! I have only read 1 book by this author years ago, actually, (Wintergirls) I really have to fix this situation! >.< The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen: Of all of Dessen’s books, this is the one that people keep recommending to me. I have read one of her most recent books and really enjoyed it, so I def need to read more of hers! Stolen by Lucy Christopher: I can’t even recall how many times I was told I should read this. I guess it’s a…

Whoops! I meant to read these!

This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner: Okay so this one is not super late, yet, seeing as it only came out a couple of weeks ago. But I had totally planned to read it during my vacation >.< Talon by Julie Kagawa: I was actually really excited to finally read a book by Kagawa when I got this at BEA. Fail, again. Me and her just don’t seem to ever synchronize! The Mesmerized by Rhiannon Frater: Dude! Y’all know by now Rhiannon is my girl, and I can’t believe I allowed this one to slip…

Debut Author Lovin’!

Even When You Lie to Me by Jessica Alcott: Oh, taboo love! I’m a sucker for unconventional romances, and teacher/student romance falls into that – unless it’s creepy or the age gap is way big, then no. But I’m curious about this one. The Night We Said Yes by Lauren Gibaldi: I just grabbed this one off EW and was checking out the early reviews earlier – people are loving it so far and it sounds like a great romance. Spanning over the course of one night, too. Scarlett Undercover by Jennifer Latham: Being used to adult mysteries, YA mysteries can…

Winter in Books!

Shutter by Courtney Alamera: You all know (or you will now) how much I love horror and creepy books in general, and this one has been catching my eye for a while but I’m definitely stoked ever since Faye read it and loved it and made me want to read it right meow! I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios: I loved Heather’s Something Real and have been dying for a new contemp from her so this one is def high on my winter TBR list! The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma: I recently read Nova’s Imaginary Girls which…
