Cami Broussard has her future all figured out. She'll finish her senior year of high school, then go to work full-time as an apprentice chef in her father's French restaurant, alongside her boyfriend, Luke. But then twenty-year-old ex-Marine Julian Wyatt comes to live with Cami's family while recovering from serious injuries. And suddenly Cami finds herself questioning everything she thought she wanted.

Julian's all attitude, challenges and intense green-brown eyes. But beneath that abrasive exterior is a man who just might be as lost as Cami's starting to feel. And Cami can't stop thinking about him. Talking to him. Wanting to kiss him. He's got her seriously stirred up. Her senior year has just gotten a lot more complicated…

Character Spotlight: Julian Wyatt

CHARACTER: Julian Wyatt
AGE: 20
HEIGHT: 6’ 0”
HAIR: Brown
EYES: Hazel

PARENTS: Father: U.S. Marine Sam Wyatt, died in a Jeep accident in Somalia when Julian was four.

Mother: Angela Wyatt, a researcher at a think tank in Washington, died from breast cancer when Julian was nine.

CHILDHOOD: Raised by his aunt Estella after his mother’s death. Considers her son, his cousin Brandon, to be like an older brother. Got in a fair amount of trouble after his mom died, but then turned to sports as an outlet and his situation improved. Top grades in high school and top scores on SAT, but he decided to be a U.S. Marine like his father and grandfather.

MILITARY BACKGROUND: Enlisted as a U.S. Marine and was sent to Afghanistan, where he was caught in an IED explosion that killed three men in his unit and caused him lose his right leg below the knee. Returns to the U.S. to recover with his aunt, her new husband, and her annoyingly-pretty step-daughter in their house in Vermont.

HOBBIES: All sports particularly basketball, watching old movies, reading newspapers, political magazines and books by Michael Crichton and Tom Clancy, exercising in the gym.

FAVORITE FOODS: Steak, apple pie, anything made by Cami Broussard, especially the soups she brings him after work. Then later, for secret reasons, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Isaiah has been a favorite character of mine since book 1. He’s got a badass look but the kindest heart and most gentle soul. Crash Into You, written in his POV, made me adore him even more. We get to see what’s going on in that hard-to-crack head of his. Having had a difficult childhood in the foster care system, he’s developed a rough edge, but to give a big eff you to stereotypes he’s positively one of the most generous and loyal person I know (yes I have met him in real life – be jealous! >.

Review: Pawn by Aimee Carter

For the 82323234287637’s book in its genre this year alone, Pawn was surprisingly original with a refreshing triangle-free minimalist romance and a plot that had tons happening throughout, not just anticipation for the ending. As my first Aimee Carter book I can’t tell you how it compares to her Goddess Test series, but I was impressed with this one for sure.

The world building, at first, sounds like your average dystopian. Society is divided by numbers given to you after a big test on your 17th birthday. If you get a 5 or over, you live a rich life, if you get a 2 or a 3… well at least you didn’t get a 1 and get sent to Elsewhere. The originality of it all comes after Kitty gets…

Ten reasons why everyone wants to be an Aquarathi by Amalie Howard

You can have the best of both worlds—you can live on land and underwater. You are at the top of the marine food chain. No kidding. You are the king of the underwater pride rock—the buffet is open. You can manipulate water in any form—technically called hydro-projection or glimmering. Think how handy that’ll be if you need to put a fire out….

I didn’t love this as much as Hushed – which was more my genre being a horror and all – but it does have an overall dark theme with a constant flow of mystery regarding a certain character. It’s a story told under a looming grey cloud where you know a disaster is forthcoming, giving it a suspenseful tone throughout. The narrative voices are where I wasn’t fully sold and ultimately stopped me from giving it my all.

Made of Stars is told through a dual perspective of a brother and a sister who have met Chance during summer break at their dad’s place. Every year they meet up and have a memorable summer, then have no contact with him until next time . This year, however, things have…
