Waiting on Wednesday
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
With October upon us, my WoWs this month will feature books that would be perfect for a Halloween read.

My pick this week:

                                    The Vanishing Game

                                    Kate Kay Myers

                                    Release date: February 14th, 2012

Jocelyn’s twin brother Jack was the only family she had growing up in a world of foster homes-and now he’s dead, and she has nothing. Then she gets a cryptic letter from “Jason December”-the code name her brother used to use when they were children at Seale House, a terrifying foster home that they believed had dark powers. Only one other person knows about Jason December: Noah, Jocelyn’s childhood crush and their only real friend among the troubled children at Seale House.

But when Jocelyn returns to Seale House and the city where she last saw Noah, she gets more than she bargained for. Turns out the house’s powers weren’t just a figment of a childish imagination. And someone is following Jocelyn. Is Jack still alive? And if he is, what kind of trouble is he in? The answer is revealed in a shocking twist that turns this story on its head and will send readers straight back to page 1 to read the book in a whole new light.

This would be so, so perfect for Halloween, right? It sounds incredibly creepy, even the cover. Definitely my kind of read! The “shocking twist” really intrigues me. I’ve seen a lot of movies and read a lot of books, it’s hard to surprise me anymore. Looking forward to finding out if this one delivers.

Oooh, I saw this one~ It looked so interesting! It is indeed perfect for Halloween! And, yes, I agree with the surprise thing. After a while, it becomes easy to figure out what will happen or the different routes a book/movie/show will take.

This definitely sounds like it is worth checking out. I will be adding it to my wishlist. This is the first I’ve heard of it. I love that about WoW… It makes me end up spending more money, but I end up reading some really great books. 🙂

This sounds so incredibly creepy, but I totally want to read it! It’s a shame that it’s not coming out sooner because you’re right: it would be a great Halloween read! I guess instead it’ll make a great…Valentine’s Day read, ahaha 😉

  5. Raine

Yes, it’s terrific for Halloween, which reminds me, I’m stacking books for the Yuletide season too! I’m going to keep a look out for this book. 😀

I’m not one for “scary” books since I’m a total pansy when it comes to all things spooky. I don’t think I’ll be able to pass this book up though, that blurb was way too interesting!

  7. Tara

This sounds like the PERFECT Halloween read! And I love the cover how the reflection of the house is different from the actual house….creepy!

  8. Brenna

Um, why haven’t I even heard of this book?! And yes, it would be perfect for halloween! I’ve discovered a couple early 2012 books that seem like they would be perfect for October 2011 😉

Plus, the promise of a twist has totally convinced me to read this one. I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS KNOW. All your fault that I have to wait until 2012 Giselle 🙁

I haven’t heard of this one, but agree that it sounds perfect for Halloween. Love the shade of green on the cover. I wonder what the big twist is too. Perfect October WoW!
