Dusty Reads (10)

Posted by

Dusty Reads is a weekly meme, hosted here, featuring a book that has been sitting unread on my home shelf for some time. To participate, add your link at the bottom.
If you wish, you can grab the button and find more information here.

My pick this week:

Numbers
Rachel Ward
Released January 2009

Goodreads / Purchase

Since her mother’s death, fifteen-year-old Jem has kept a secret. When her eyes meet someone else’s, a number pops into her head – the date on which they will die. Knowing that nothing lasts forever, Jem avoids relationships, but when she meets a boy called Spider, and they plan a day out together, her life takes a new twist and turn. Waiting for the London Eye, she sees everyone in the queue has the same number – something terrible is going to happen.

This concept fascinates me to no end. But I can’t help but notice the not so great feedback it’s been getting on Goodreads. What do you think? Should I give it a go?

Isn’t it by Rachel Ward, with a D? This one’s sitting lonely on my shelf too, but I honestly have so much to read that it’s just going to sit there… I haven’t seen enough good reviews about it :/

  2. Janus Vielle Aragones

Not on my TBR but most of what I read on Goodreads about this were not so good too. So I don’t really know what to say. Maybe give it a shot when you run out of other books to read? (Run out? Yeah, like that’ll happen..LOL.)

It gives something of the Frighteners vibe. It sounds like I’ll be seeing numbers on people’s head when I read this book tho. Hard to say to go for it.

The second book Chaos is already out. I did not read Numbers because I did not think I would like book 2 so not sure if I wanted to vested in the series.

I read this and while I like the concept a bit more than the book, I did not regret reading it one at all. It’s a fun, interesting fast read. By the way, this is such a good idea for a meme!

I really liked it! This book is definitely a thriller- but the way it was written kind of made it feel middle grade. But the content sure isn’t! 😉

This sounds cool – the concept has been explored in Death Note (an anime). I’d read it – I usually like a lot of books which get back lash on Goodreads, I guess my tastes aren’t main stream :-p

I’m in the same situation as you, and this book is getting dusty. I like the concept a lot, but the reviews are not so.. promising.
Would I be selfish to say that I suggest you to read it (as I will be waiting for your review 😛 )? ;))

I loved the concept of this book, but too bad I didn’t enjoy it….I actually read half-way then skipped to the very end to find out the ending. The writing style just wasn’t my thing, but I know a lot of people who genuinely liked this!
