Released December, 2009

There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce–and goes out of his way to make that very clear–she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.

I know, right? I can’t believe I haven’t read this one either! Frankly, I’m not quite sure I really want to after seeing the incredibly strong opinions on it. It seems people either hate it, or hate the haters. What do you think of this series?

Fallen is the best book of the series! I really loved it, but for some reason other people don’t like it as much 🙁 You should definitely read it though, I finished it in one day 🙂

  2. Shirley

I liked this 2 years ago, but truthfully, it lacks a strong plotline and unforgettable characters…Now, I don’t particularly like it, but I’ll definitely finish the series, since I own all the books, and they have the prettiest covers ever!

  3. Lindsey (A Storm of Words)

It’s so true that a lot of people seem to really love this book or really detest it. I guess I can understand the appeal, but for me it wasn’t there. The books in this series have suuuch gorgeous covers, but I have to admit that I had to force myself to finish the first book. I honestly wasn’t a fan of the main character and the story failed to reel me in. I can say, however, that the epilogue of the first book was EXTREMELY interesting and the highlight of the book for me. I haven’t read the second book yet, but that epilogue of the first did make me not want to totally give up on the series!

I’ve read Fallen and quite enjoyed it =) I understand why many people don’t like this book, it’s a bit slow and the story didn’t left any strong impression. but it’s okay for me. Many unanswered secrets inside which made me wondering until the last part so yeah I really can’t wait to read the next books =D

  5. fishgirl182

Oh I had that for awhile, too. Two of my really good reader friends really didn’t like it and I never got around to reading it and eventually gifted it to someone else. interested to see what you think of it after you read it.

  6. Sarah (saz101)

I *really* enjoyed it, and I loved Passion, but LOATHED Torment. It seems to be REALLY divisive, huh?

I think it’s one of those books that, for some people, has failed to standout from some of the YA paranormal available. I hadn’t read much YA PNR when I’d read it, aside from Twilight, so it totally worked for me.

Interesting to see your thoughts on it if you do read it 🙂

  7. Samual

First, I like the cover! Your right! To me, It seems there are a lot of people dislike the book. Well, I haven’t read the book either (and I’m not going to), but one of my friends has read it. She said the book was good, so I guess that’s a good sign. Great post. Thank you for sharin’!

Oh dear, I wouldn’t recommend this to you. Seriously. But who knows, maybe you will like it after all.

Half planet is gonna hate me right now, but I found it twilight-ish (and I liked twilight back then, but still), and crappy, and the writing got on my nerves (and I didn’t have many books on my belt when I read this one – so I wasn’t comparing it with the good books).

So if you read it and at some point you find yourself not liking it, don’t force yourself into finishing it. It’s not worth it, it’s not getting any better.

  9. Leanna (Daisy Chain Book Reviews)

I really like this series – you should try it! I got off to a shaky start with the first book as I didn’t like Luce and I didn’t really like Daniel either, but Luce really grows as a character throughout the series and Daniel has reasons for being the way he is! After reading the third book I am addicted, and can’t wait for the fourth!

I’ve seen some pretty harsh reviews for this series too, but I don’t really understand all the hate! 🙂

Hahaha wow even the comments are varied! I’m totally curious now which group I belong with xD

@Lindsey: You made me super curious about that epilogue!!

  11. Rebecca

I’m with you on the not sure if I’d want to read it after hearing about it. I’m also scared when some say it’s so similar to Twilight. ;o But it does sound interesting… And if you hadn’t guessed, I haven’t read it either! It’s not even getting dusty on my shelf, lol.

  12. Shellie

I read this and Torment on my phone way before I got my Nook, I enjoyed it but to me it started getting blah 1/2 way through Torment. I still need to read Passion to see if things got any better! Let me know what you think of it!

Well you’ve already purchased it/have it your possession. Something in it grabbed your attention. So go ahead and give it a try. If there is any disappointment it will be well-earned by the book and not someone else’s opinion on it.

-ducks head–I didnt like this series and I love angel books..I dont know..I just..thought it was boring. I know some people love it..one of the girls on my blog absolutely thinks its amazing and she is the reason I read it…wasnt for me at all

The Fallen books and I do not have a good thing going. I read the sample on Amazon when I was making my first order for my blog back in August and I really enjoyed that. So when I saw the other two books in the series cheap at Walmart and knew I had the first coming and liked the sample, I went “What the heck!” and picked those up, too.

Oh man was that a mistake. I think I got 150 pages into Fallen and I couldn’t finish it. I just kept looking at it and going, “I hate this. I don’t want to read this. When do I get to move on to something else?” This was the book that made me decide that doing a DNF was more acceptable to me then forcing through a book and giving it a scathing review when I knew 1/4 through that I despise it. (And yes, that’s the word I most immediately associate with Fallen.)

I don’t know. Maybe it was a mood I was in? I might give it another go someday, since I have Torment and Passion sitting here too. But then I think of the totally amazing books I have waiting to be opened and go, “What for?”

Sorry this got lengthy. And I certainly don’t discredit anyone who *did* like Fallen, etc. As I’m always saying when I review things, a lot of the time it’s just as likely to be that I could not connect with something in a book, as it was that the author did something “wrong”.

I have not read this one either but I’m not really into angel books. The reviews have not helped its cause either. Curious to see what you thought of it.

I’ve had this one on my TBR list for ages…I even had it from the library a few months ago but didn’t have time to read it. You’re right about people having very strong opinions about this book…I’ve heard so many people say they hated it with a passion lol…that alone makes me curious. I do want to read it eventually, if for no other reason than to add to the debate about it!

  18. Taneika

I’m going to reread this series soon for review! I loved it when I read it about a year-ish ago but it’s definitely one of my guilty pleasures! I hate them but I love them, it’s so strange… haha 🙂

    Hi!

I understand about the divided nature of reviews. I didn’t like the book much at first – I feel the idea is too cliched and over done and the protagonist is incredibly annoying. I have read all the books in the series though, and will read the fourth book when it comes out.

Just finished it! “Fallen” dragged for me. I need action in my books. There was a little at the beginning and a little at the end. There was actually more directness and action in the leaked mini stories which have been pulled to be included in “Fallen in Love”. I have the files if you want them.

  21. Melanie

For me, it was one of those books that I initially loved, but the longer I thought about it, the less I did. I still like it, but I felt like I could have read the first 100 and last 50 pages and known exactly what was happening. Too much angst.

How did you get your comment box to go above the existing comments? That’s a really cool idea.

  22. Maji Bookshelf

Honestly i wasn’t able to finish it without doing some skimming. It was either that or I ditch the book. I just finished reading crescendo and wanted an angel book, kinda sucked that it was this one. Personally I won’t pick up the second book of this series anytime soon

Wow this one really got everyone’s attention. I should read it so I can see what all this fuss is about haha. I’m too scared though o_O

@Melanie: I personally don’t like having to scroll through comments on other blogs so I looked on Google for the code on how to change mine to be on top of all the comments. I couldn’t tell you what that is now but it was fairly easy to find on google.
