Posted by

Today I’ve got Nikki Jefford, who came to bring you behind the scenes of her recently released novel Entangled, and give you a chance to win a copy!

Entangled
Nikki Jefford
Release date: February 20th 2012

Goodreads / Purchase

Twin witches Graylee and Charlene Perez agree on one rule: No dating warlocks.

Not so easy when a certain rogue warlock is convinced he and Graylee belong together and will use anything, including magic, to try and impress Gray. When Charlene’s boyfriend dumps her, she threatens to kill either herself or the girl who stole Blake. Somehow, Gray ends up dead.

A Resurrection Spell Gone Wrong:

Two months after dying, Gray wakes up in Charlene’s body. As a witch, can anyone blame her mother for attempting to bring her daughter back to life? Only now Gray’s stuck sharing her sister’s body 50/50 in twenty-four hour shifts.

The race is on for Gray to find a way back inside her own body before Charlene purges her from existence. Raj McKenna is rumored to meddle in the black arts, not to mention he’s after Gray’s invisibility spell and worse – her heart. But Raj might be the only one powerful enough to save Gray from fading away forever.

Without further ado, let’s welcome Nikki!

Behind the Scenes with Entangled author, Nikki Jefford

Seven Times a Charm

I wrote six “practice” novels before I felt ready to publish Entangled. (Lucky #7.)

Crazy Things that Happened While Writing Entangled

Grandma died, dad had open heart surgery, uncle’s heart was stopped then restarted, sister-in-law almost died of food poisoning, mother-in-law tried to kill herself, and – horror of all horrors – my editor dropped off the face of the planet.

Fantastic Fluke

When I sent Entangled to my #1 beta reader, Nicole Steinhaus, she said, “By the way, I’m a twin.” My book is about an identical twin – could I ask for a more perfect beta?!

Book Cover

Three attempts before I was happy. Designer Najla Qamber is a saint. She did exactly what I asked the first round and I recoiled at the outcome. For the second go, she put together a scene using various stock imagery I chose. Me: “Add a tombstone. Make her hair blow in the wind. Change the color of her skirt. Make the sky gray.” Finally, I found a stock image that grabbed me and Naj nailed it. Of course, being neurotic, I had one final request: “Can you add some swirls to the title?”

Book Trailer

HOURS scouring royalty free stock sites and listening to music. Then I remembered hearing something of composer Simon Wilkinson’s on MSN’s homepage a year back. Lucky for me, he licenses out royalty free music. My brother did the video editing and yes, I was neurotic and requested multiple redoes.

I would choose teleportation! Mostly because that’s what I’ve always wanted for myself. Time-saving and well, I hate that moment when I’m wearing high heels and I miss the bus… teleportation comes in handy in such situations!

Lovely interview and let me say that I ADORE the cover. Najla Qamber nailed it!

Teleportation! I wanna visit countries I’ve never been without having to go through visa application and customs. LOL. 😛

I love the premise of the book, by the way. Kinda reminds me of that evil b*tch that Buffy the Vampire Slayer had to fight. She shared one body with her brother or something. 😛

  3. Lilian

Body transfers, since that sounds the most hilarious…assuming I can switch strangers bodies as well as my own.
Though just thinking in the case of irreversibility makes me a bit scared to play with such powers.

That’s one of most beautiful covers I’e seen in awhile!

  4. Wendy Lohr

I would have to choose teleportation! No more traffic/commuting and think of all the money that would be saved from having to buy gas. More money = more books! lol Awesome post and giveaway!!

Hm … teleportation I think – how easy would it be to sidestep the rain and think of the commuting time to work? Awesome!

    Thanks! 🙂

Mind Reading would definitely be something I’d wish to have. Think of all the tests I could pass if I’d be able to read the minds of others! Haha, yeah my mind always goes back to school with mind reading I don’t really know why but I’d be so convenient! Thanks for the amazing giveaway C:

  9. KaylaBeck

Thank you for the giveaway! If I could choose a power, it would definitely be teleportation. I love to visit new places, but I do NOT love traveling itself (motion sickness). 🙂

    pherlaithiel (at) gmail (dot) com

  10. Aurora Celeste

I think I’d chose body transfers. The ability to place myself in other people’s shoes and see the world through their eyes would be incredible.

Ohhh, I have to say I really love the sound of this one. It definitely sounds good! And the author definitely had a lot happening while writing :/

Power question! Gosh, they’re always so hard… I’d probably have to say either teleportation or invisibility… *thinks* Maybe a little more on the teleportation one. ;o Sounds like such a practical power, lol.

    Cambonified[at]yahoo[dot]com

  15. Arianne Cruz

So hard to pick. I think I’ll choose 3 and explain why I chose them 🙂
Invisibility – sometimes I have moments when I just want to disappear and this would be quite handy, esp when I want my solitude.
Teleportation – who needs a car with this ability? I think this is the most useful 🙂
Mind reading – I would like to be able to control the moments when I want to read minds… It would probably be disgruntling but kind of cool.

Oh, I’d choose teleportation, for sure! I have family and friends who live in so many different places – it’d be fantastic to be able to wiggle my nose and end up at my Mom’s breakfast table or my bestie’s baby shower!

The cover of this book is super gorgeous and it sounds like such a fun read! 🙂

I would choose teleportation because it would come in handy in general, and because that way I could do some of the traveling I want to do but can’t afford to! haha
Thanks for the great giveaway, this book sounds awesome!

    irishstar_83(at)hotmail(dot)com

  22. Jane

I’d choose teleportation. Then, I can go to anywhere, anytime. Say, I can go to Australia in the morning to buy all the Aussie YA that are not available in the bookstore near by. Then, go to have a tea in London. Have another trip to Paris in the evening. Isn’t it awesome? I can also save the travelling time. I’ll never be late.

Looking forward to reading this book. 🙂

  25. Elodie

I am dying to read this book, it sounds absolutely amazing and the cover looks gorgeous .. but that’s no surprise because I know Naj is a great designer since she is the one who designed my blog 🙂 !!
I also wanted to thank you Giselle because I left a comment on your blog last week saying how much I loved this cover and Nikki contacted me to review her book !! Great post:)

  26. Rhee

I would have to say teleportation. It’s not that the other ones don’t rock, but the idea of being able to get anywhere easily is just a wonderful concept.

Although body transfers sounds cool too…spend a day in the body of a famous person and get to see what their day’s like. I think that’s a close runner up.

Thank you for the giveaway! kyramoonmist@yahoo.com

  27. ame1184

I think I would choose teleportation. Think of all the time and money spent on gas I’d save if I could just appear different places!! Also, LOVE the cover, it’s gorgeous!!!

    ame1184 at gmail dot com

  28. Julie W

Oh, I would definitely choose teleportation! I spend so much time trying to get places and being stuck in traffic – it would be awesome to just teleport there!! I don’t even know how to voice how beautiful the cover of this book is!! It’s absolutely gorgeous! Thanks so much for the chance to win a copy:)

  29. Jackie

Well I wish I had the power to have all of these super powers but I would choose teleportation just because I really want to travel the world and I would also be able to sleep in more but I could always make it on time to where I need to be. 🙂

    jacqueline.s.chapman(at)gmail(dot)com

  30. Kiona

This looks so good! And out of all the options, I’d definitely choose teleportation (it’s the closest to flying, and who doesn’t want to fly?).

  31. Tara

oooo sadly mind reading!!! i say sadly because its sad that i would want to so bad and here is why, people never tell you what they are saying or thinking!!!! and its so infuriating!!! maybe i have been reading books too long and getting to be able to be inside peoples heads, but yea that is what i would choose!!

    Tara
    taterbeans85[at]gmail[dot]com

  32. Aleksandra

Teleportation definitely. I can go anywhere 😉 and that sounds awesome 😀

This book sounds so good & the cover is amazing!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  33. Anonymous

I would choose the power to freeze people and take away their voice cuz if i was fighting a witch or somebody they have to say their spells so if i take away their voice they cant do anything^ and if i freeze them in place then they cant try to physically attack me either and it would make a good target^

    mimi.bang854@gmail.com

  34. oriana

I WOULD CHOOSE TELETRNASPORTATION, BECAUSE I COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD FREE!
    THANKS FOR MAKING THIS INTERNATIONAL!

  35. Kris-10

I would definitely choose mind reading! Because who doesn’t wonder about what someone else is thinking? Thanks for the awesome giveaway! :))

    kristen10horses[at]yahoo[dot]com

  36. Jaimie C

I would have to go with invisibility. There are just too many cool things to try if no one could see it was you! Imagine what you could get away with! 🙂

jaimie dot crawford at yahoo dot com

  37. pointy star

I would want the power of teleportation. Um, free trip around the world anyone? XD However, I think this power would probably make me even lazier, lol, since I wouldn’t have to walk anywhere.

Thanks for having such an awesome giveaway!

    pointy.star@yahoo.com

  38. Ems

I think for sure I’d want Teleportation. I’d love to be able to visit my sister anytime I wanted!

Awesome interview-I always love reading what goes on behind the scenes!

  39. Marissa

I would definitely choose teleportation. While I do like to drive and travel, sometimes long distance traveling can become extremely tedious and time consuming. Hopefully it would be a world-wide-use kind of thing.

The cover is gorgeous and the story sounds intriguing!

  40. Mindy Wall

Ooooo, that’s a hard one. If I could mind read I would always know what my kids are up to. If I would freeze people and take away their voice I would never have to say shhh to my kids or anyone else. Body transfers kinda creep me out. Invisibility would be cool. But I think I would choose teleportation.

  41. pixieDREAMER

ADJKLJLHL That is one beautiful cover *O*

Haha, thanks for the giveaway 🙂 I think I’d go with the power to freeze people in place and take away their voice. I’m a bit scared of the body transfer thing – what if I can’t change back (yeah, I’m kind of paranoid)? Question – would I have to de-freeze them after I’m done? >:D

    breechri@gmail.com

  42. LK

Teleportation would be the most logical choice for me, if having magic powers can be described as logical. 😀

I can get to places in a jiffy! No need to be stuck in a horrible traffic jam for hours…no need to crawl up nine flights of stairs when the elevator is broken. *sighs wishfully*

Love the cover btw! Its gorgeous! Thanks for the interview and giveaway.

    celeste_fiore(at)live(dot)com

  43. layen

I’d pick teleportation. No more dealing with horrible traffic every day!

Love the blue cover and the story really sounds interesting.

    lincalc at gmail dot com

  44. Chenise J.

I would pick teleportation because it would be the most useful of all the powers. I can travel where I want, whether it be across an ocean or across town. I could explore places much more easily and it just seems like a really cool thing to have.

  45. margie c {the bumble girl}

Oh my, how do I choose between teleportation and mind reading??? Will I get motion sickness from teleporting? or a ton of migraines from mind reading? I think I’ll go with the Invisibility power, sneak around, find stuff out… interesting, lol!
    Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

  46. Rachel

Hmmm. Tough choice. I think I’d love to have teleportation the most, although I wouldn’t be against having the others too, lol 😉 Just think of all the places you could go and not have to pay airfares for? One thought and poof, you’re in Paris. Another though and zap, you’re in Egypt–so fun!

Thanks for putting this book on my radar and for the chance to read it!

    rachybee101@live.com.au

  47. Vickie

Hmmmm….hard question! Maybe teleportation because I am always late places…teleporting would solve all my problems! I though that I might want to be able to mind read too but after thinking about it for a while, no matter how tempting it would be I think that it would kinda be weird knowing what people think all the time! Maybe if I could turn off the mind reading-ness though…..hmmm its tempting! 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway!!!

  48. Jackie

I would definitely choose teleportation. Maybe my dreams of traveling the world would come true! Plus, I would never have to worry about being late to work.

    jacqueline.c.goodman AT gmail DOT com

  49. Teresa

I’m torn between invisibility and teleportation but i’ll have to go with invisibility. I would like to be able to read minds but it’s just too messy.

    treechanie(at)hotmail(dot)com

  50. Cassandra

Oh wow.. I definitely think I would choose mind reading. I have always been good at reading people but to know what they are actually thinking would be a great asset.

    CassMartino AT gmail DOT com

  51. Sarah M.

After much thought, I think I’d honestly like invisibility…. I think there could be interesting things learned when completely invisible vs blended into the shadows….
