Waiting on Wednesday (47)

Posted by

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week:

Broken

A.E. Rought
Release date: January 8th 2013
by Strange Chemistry

Imagine a modern spin on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein where a young couple’s undying love and the grief of a father pushed beyond sanity could spell the destruction of them all.

A string of suspicious deaths near a small Michigan town ends with a fall that claims the life of Emma Gentry’s boyfriend, Daniel. Emma is broken, a hollow shell mechanically moving through her days. She and Daniel had been made for each other, complete only when they were together. Now she restlessly wanders the town in the late Fall gloom, haunting the cemetery and its white-marbled tombs, feeling Daniel everywhere, his spectre in the moonlight and the fog.

When she encounters newcomer Alex Franks, only son of a renowned widowed surgeon, she’s intrigued despite herself. He’s an enigma, melting into shadows, preferring to keep to himself. But he is as drawn to her as she is to him. He is strangely… familiar. From the way he knows how to open her locker when it sticks, to the nickname she shared only with Daniel, even his hazel eyes with brown flecks are just like Daniel’s.

The closer they become, though, the more something inside her screams there’s something very wrong with Alex Franks. And when Emma stumbles across a grotesque and terrifying menagerie of mangled but living animals within the walls of the Franks’ estate, creatures she surely knows must have died from their injuries, she knows.

Frankenstein really fascinates me and I love how this one sounds! Plus the cover is so pretty! And RED! Red = Awesome! Always!

This sounds awesome!!! So can I assume Alex Franks is really her boyfriend Daniel?! Cause why wouldn’t he just tell her. And how romantic to come back from the dead for her! LOL But it sounds like she is freaked but I think I would be all good with it. I love this take on Frankenstein!
    My WOW

I like it! Broken sounds good, and I don’t think I’ve read a retelling of Frankenstein, excellent choice, chick! You always rock the WOW posts!

I really don’t like this cover, so I’m always like eh I don’t want to read this, but then I look at the blurb and I realize that I TOTALLY do, because Frankenstein! A book based on a book is pretty much always something I want to read. 🙂

This sounds awesome!! I agree with the red cover. I love covers that have red and black!! I didn’t do a WoW this week. I didn’t want 3 posts on the blog today so I skipped it.

  10. Sarah @ Y.A. Love

I agree about the cover; it’s stunning! And I love that this takes place near a small Michigan town (I’m from Michigan). I’m happy to have this on my radar now. Great choice!

A red cover is always awesome!! It has such an eery type feel that reminds me of Girl of Nightmares! And that synopsis? Yes please!! I have yet to read a retelling of Frankenstein [or even the original, for that matter]. I’ve seen movies, though, so I think that shall suffice. 😉 I’m definitely adding this one to my TBR!!
