Waiting on Wednesday (55)

Posted by

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week:

The Ruining

Anna Collomore
Release date: February 7th 2013
by Razorbill

Annie Phillips is thrilled to leave her past behind and begin a shiny new life on Belvedere Island, as a nanny for the picture-perfect Cohen family. In no time at all, she falls in love with the Cohens, especially with Libby, the beautiful young matriarch of the family. Life is better than she ever imagined. She even finds romance with the boy next door.

All too soon cracks appear in Annie’s seemingly perfect world. She’s blamed for mistakes she doesn’t remember making. Her bedroom door comes unhinged, and she feels like she’s always being watched. Libby, who once felt like a big sister, is suddenly cold and unforgiving. As she struggles to keep up with the demands of her new life, Annie’s fear gives way to frightening hallucinations. Is she tumbling into madness, or is something sinister at play?

The Ruining is a complex ride through first love, chilling manipulation, and the terrifying depths of insanity.

I love books that deal with the mind and freaky happenings like this. I first stumbled on it on Edelweiss and it has a different synopsis there that has this bit “Suddenly, Annie finds herself trapped in the confines of Richmond-Fost psychiatric facility. She pieces together clues from her time with the Cohens—clues that suggest Libby is not the woman she says she is. Has she uncovered the horrible truth, or is this merely the greatest of her hallucinations?” that is definitely something I would love!

That definitely does sound unique and interesting. I love anything where someone’s mind might not be working quite right. Even better if people are trying to make someone *think* this and they are the one(s) who have has / have problems.

Wow another awesome pick Giselle! This book has such a creepy vibe to it, I love it! I will definitely be adding this to my tbr! Only a few months to go *sobs*

Hmm… this definitely sounds interesting and a little bit creepy. Sometimes I really like to read books like that even though I wouldn’t be able to stomach them all the time. Might wait for a few reviews before picking this one up, but I’m definitely intrigued. Thanks for sharing!

This sounds like a perfect Halloween read-creepy and mysterious! Also sounds like it would make a great movie. I hope it lives up to it’s amazing synopsis. Can’t wait to eventually read your review of it.

Hmm. I love a good mystery/horror style book but haven’t found one in a long time that sounds good. And this one definitely does.

I just saw this on Goodreads yesterday and knew I had to read it. I love it when books have mind freaky stuff happening too, so I am definitely eager to read this! xD
    Thanks for stopping by ^__^

OH MY GOD. I am terrified just from the synopsis. O_O I do like stories where you get to piece things together in reverse. Also, the cover is creepy and awesome.
