Waiting on Wednesday (57)

Posted by

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week:

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

April Genevieve Tucholke
Release date: August 2013
by Dial/Penguin

Violet’s grandmother had warned her about the Devil, had talked about him often, as though he were a best friend, or an old lover. But she never told Violet that the Devil could be real. She never told Violet that the Devil could be a dark-haired boy in vintage clothes who takes naps in the sun and likes old movies and vigilante justice.

River West is the seventeen-year old stranger renting the guesthouse behind the rotting mansion on the sea, where Violet lives. And as eerie things start happening in Violet’s town, she begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard. Is River just a crooked-smiling, coffee-loving liar with rascally eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something else? Something…evil?

Violet’s already so knee-deep in love she can’t see straight.

And that’s just how River likes it

So angel books are rarely my cup of tea, but devils… now that’s more like it! What does that say about me? I’m not sure I want to know O.O Plus, this cover, well at first I didn’t “really” love it, but then I stared at it… and now I love it! 😀

And who cares? She lives in a rotting mansion on the sea, dude! YEAH!!

What did you pick this week?

This book sounds fantastic! I didn’t think that it would be something I’d be interested in by looking at the cover, but after I read the synopsis I was hooked! Great pick!

@Kara: I saw it as her grandma “knowing” the devil is actually someone real, and someone to fear – not in a religious way, but as a paranormal being/danger – the same as if they were talking about any other paranormal being, vampire, etc.

Ah, I love Angels and Demons and .. yes the Devil too. Well, at least in literature! This one sounds deliciously dark! Want to read it :))

Ohhh, you always manage to find something awesome that I have never heard of yet, Giselle! The cover really is quite striking! And I’m with you on devils over angels!!

I know what you mean, I scare myself because of some of the books that I like to reads, lol. Although, I haven’t read many angel books, and I probably won’t. This book looks really interesting. Plus, I love the cover, especially the typography of the title, it’s so pretty.

This sounds totally like my type of book. (I’m not a big angel book person myself, but will always read a devil or demon book lol…soulmates.) I really like this cover. It’s different and has a creepy feel to it.

Haha, and apparently I already had it on my TBR list. I went to add it and it was already there. I only added it a week ago lol!!

  8. Amanda

I prefer not to read angel books. I haven’t read any devil books, but maybe that’s because there are less of them? I seriously don’t think that I can list any devil books except for Good Omens or Paradise Lost. I’m intrigued now as well!

My friend just posted this on her blog and I was instantly obsessed!! Like, GIVE ME NOW! The Devil as a guy??? YES, YES, YES!! Gosh, this book just has me fangirling all over it and I haven’t even read it!

Obviously Mr. West does not have allergic issues. Think of all the mold in that rotting mansion. Sneeze, Sneeze, Sneeze.

Opposites attract. Since you like devils, that must mean that you are particularly Angelic. Right? Don’t argue, just run with it. LOL.

I’m surprised but I’m actually really into this book after reading this post. It sounds creepy but not horrifying and also mysterious…which I love! The cover is gorgeous as well… So yeah, I’m excited now & off to add this to my reading list 😀 Thanks for sharing Giselle & hope you love this when you get your hands on it!

I want to read this too, but I’m liking the cover less every time I look at it. I don’t know. :-/

Also, I’d totally heard of this before. Ninja fail! Which reminds me that I need to go hunt for more that people don’t already know about. SO. MUCH. WORK.
