Waiting on Wednesday (63) — Movie Edition

Posted by

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
Special Movie Edition!
Since I could not, for the life of me, find a book that was suitable for a WoW this week, I decided to make a movie edition as there are great books-to-movies that I’m STOKED for that are coming up! So why not?

The Host

Stephenie Meyer
Release date: March 29th, 2013

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining “wild” humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Wanderer probes Melanie’s thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer’s mind with visions of the man Melanie loves – Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love

The Host Official Trailer:

This is one of my favorite books and I have been waiting for this movie since I first heard it was going to be one like, 5 years ago! I just saw the trailer the other day and March cannot be here fast enough! Hopefully the acting is better than Twilight. Not too hard to achieve.

World War Z

Max Brooks
Release date: June 21st, 2013

The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched first-hand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of thirty million souls to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet. He recorded the testimony of men, women, and sometimes children who came face-to-face with the living, or at least the undead, hell of that dreadful time. World War Z is the result. Never before have we had access to a document that so powerfully conveys the depth of fear and horror, and also the ineradicable spirit of resistance, that gripped human society through the plague years.

Ranging from the now infamous village of New Dachang in the United Federation of China, where the epidemiological trail began with the twelve-year-old Patient Zero, to the unnamed northern forests where untold numbers sought a terrible and temporary refuge in the cold, to the United States of Southern Africa, where the Redeker Plan provided hope for humanity at an unspeakable price, to the west-of-the-Rockies redoubt where the North American tide finally started to turn, this invaluable chronicle reflects the full scope and duration of the Zombie War.

World War Z Official Trailer:

Hellz. Yeah!!! Did you SEE this trailer? *flails*

City of Bones

Cassandra Clare
Release date: August 23rd, 2013

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder — much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing — not even a smear of blood — to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

City of Bones Official Trailer:

Even though I feel this series is being milked for every drop it’s worth, I’m kind of excited to see it on screen. I did really enjoy the first three books and it could be pretty fantastic as a movie. There’s also a local (which is rare for small town, nowhere) casted in it so woot! Represent!

Catching Fire

Suzanne Collins
Release date: November 22nd, 2013

Sparks are igniting, flames are spreading and the Capitol wants revenge.

Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol – a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create.

Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she’s afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she’s not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol’s cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can’t prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.

No list would have been complete without this most anticipated book-to-movie in the universe! What is up with November? NOVEMBER? *sobs*

Carrie

Stephen King
Release date: March 15th, 2013

A modern classic, “Carrie” introduced a distinctive new voice in American fiction — Stephen King. The story of misunderstood high school girl Carrie White, her extraordinary telekinetic powers, and her violent rampage of revenge, remains one of the most barrier-breaking and shocking novels of all time.

Make a date with terror and live the nightmare that is…”Carrie”

Carrie (2013) Teaser Trailer:
Ok, I’m on the fence about this one, but only because Carrie is one of my all time favorite horror movies and the 1976 movie is a classic and all kind of freaky messed up, so I’m not sure how this one will fare in comparison, but the teaser trailer is pretty freaking awesome and I kind of love it!

I’m super excited for The Host as well! I saw the trailer a couple of days ago and thought it looked great! Plus, I love Saoirse Ronan and Jake Abel! I also think the trailer of City of Bones looks fabulous.
Carrie looks like such a creepy movie. I’m not sure if I’m going to be watching this movie by myself!
    Great post, Giselle! 🙂

  2. Von P.

There’s a remake of Carrie! I totally love the classic one and judging by the new trailer, I think it’s much better. And Chloë Grace Moretz is the new Carrie! Love that girl! Hmm.. Let’s just see hte movie!

  3. Ellie

Ooooooh! I haven’t actually read ANY of these books yet, but I have every one of them on my TBR shelves, and the trailers are seriously tempting! I actually go through the UK release schedule at the end of every year to pick out books like these so I can read some of them in time for the movies – I think I might have to make my list a bit early this year! 🙂

  4. Silverlight

I’m looking forward to, City Of Bones, Catching Fire, and The Host. I’m also looking forward to, Beautiful Creatures, Hansel and Gretel-Witch Hunters, and Percy Jackson-Sea Of Monsters

  5. Aylee

Yay! I am SO stoked for these (and Beautiful Creatures)!! That is, so long as they don’t screw them up. That’s always the most disappointing thing because it feels like they’ve ruined a part of the book even though they are separate. I had my doubts when I saw the Host teaser trailer, but I am reassured with this new trailer that it could be good (so long as the acting is good, heh). Same with City of Bones – I am really excited to see how they are going to bring that world to life! I haven’t read World War Z, but I have to say that I am pretty disappointed with the special effects in that trailer. Those zombies look pretty fake. But hopefully they’ll perfect it for the big screen! Fun post!!

Has anyone seen the trailer for Warm Bodies? I did when I went to see BD2 and immediately came home and bought the book. It looks so cute! Especially for a zombie movie.

  7. Amy

I am super excited for all of those. I love the original Carrie, but the new (I should say newest) one looks like it’s going to be pretty cool. I am DYING to see World War Z, Catching Fire, The Host, and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. It’s been so long since I have read The Host that I feel like I need to read it again. My library has the audiobook so maybe I will listen to it.

  8. Sam

I’m also really looking forward to The Host! Already, the movie looks like it will be more my sort of thing than Twilight, and I did really enjoy the book. City of Bones I am on the fence about. I’ll definitely watch it as the book is a all time favourite of mine, but it doesn’t look nearly as good as I’d hoped.

  9. Micheline D

Eeeek! I’m SO freaking excited for The Host! I’ve seen Saoirse Ronan act and she definitely can act circles around Miss Stewart so I’m not too worried. I actually *just* saw the trailer for World War Z when I went to see BD2 – HOLY INTENSE! When those things start climbing the walls as a unit?! Made my skin crawl! I was mostly un-impressed with the Mortal Instruments series overall, but I’m still eager to see it on the big screen. And well Catching Fire was my absolute FAVORITE book out of the HG trilogy so I DYING to see it on film…especially since I think they did the best job ever adapting the first book. But yeah, November is WAY too long to wait o.O Fab post Giselle, thanks for sharing!

  10. Chapter by Chapter

yes to all! I am so excited for The Host. I adored the book and can’t wait to see it on the big screen. World War Z looks like it’s going to be all sorts of awesome! And yum Brad Pitt… The Mortal Instruments! I’ve been waiting for this day since I finished book 1 forever ago! Not sure about Carrie…I’m leary with re-boots, personally. Thanks for sharing!

    Our WoW!

  11. Liesel K Hill

Great list! With the exception of Catching Fire, those are all books I want to read before the films come out. Guess I need to get crackin’! (Probably won’t read Carrie, though. :D)

  12. Jackie

I have a hardcover and audiobook of Host and have never gotten around to it yet. I know I should. I can’t wait to see City of Bones either.

  13. Christina

What a wonderful idea for a WoW. Love it, Giselle!

Also, I want to see The Host, but I am not loving the actors’ faces, so we shall see. God, I sound like a bitch, but whatever, the truth hurts.

Looks like I need to be reading World War Z, because I bet that will be awesome! Too bad he couldn’t get his dad to direct! Wait, Brad Pitt? Is this movie about an old dude?

I don’t know if I’ll see City of Bones. At the moment, I just want to rip that poster to shreds, because it looks SO MUCH LIKE the one for The 10th Kingdom, this awesomely cheesy television miniseries from 10 or so years ago. They couldn’t afford to be more original? Really? Also, the guy playing Jace has a monster face. Like, he would make a good Frankenstein. Again, the truth: it burns.

    Catching Fire! HELLS YEAH.

Carrie: *hides from movie poster* I’ve actually read this one, and it was pretty boring. I think this one’s going all out though. I don’t know if I can watch it, because I am SUCH A WIMP about horror in films!

  14. Karen

I LOVED The Host. I hope the movie is good. The trailer looks promising.

Same with World War Z, although I wish it was a cable series instead.

I didn’t know they were remaking Carrie again?

  15. Tara

Ahh, I cannot WAIT for The City of Bones movie! And Catching Fire! I haven’t read The Host – I probably won’t, but I think I’ll still see the movie because Saoirse Ronan is one of my favourite actresses ever.

  16. Bonnie R

I can’t wait for Catching Fire!! I FINALLY watched The Hunger Games for the first time last night and it was kind of amazing. lol And WOW that new cover for Carrie is perfect. I’m most excited for Catching Fire though. 🙂
    My Wow Pick!

  17. Mel@Thedailyprophecy.

-Because of the trailer (and Jonathan, I admit :p) I started to read City of Glass. I definitely can’t wait to see it on the screen.
-Catching fire is my favorite book from the three, so they better get it right! Especially Finnick, he is cute.
-I haven’t read the host, because I’m scared after Twilight.. but the trailer looks promising 🙂

  18. The Reading-ista

It’s the craziest thing, but I have yet to read a Stephanie Meyer’s book. I have a hard time reading books after they have gone viral, but I should probably give her a try. I feel like I am missing out.

  19. nea barabea

Finally I see the trailer for City of bones! I’ve been on the Red Carpet in London and Jamie told me that the trailer was coming out the next day and I completely forgot about it!! 😛 🙂 So, thank you, Giselle 😉 <3

  20. Jaime Lester

Well, I for one am excited about the Beautiful Creatures. I love the casting of this movie. I’m also excited about City of Bones, but right now I am not at all liking the characters. Hopefully they prove me wrong though! I can’t wait for Warm Bodies. The previews look awesome! And The Hobbit. The Host was FANTASTIC! The movie looks awesome. Catching Fire most definitely. Carrie, I really hope they don’t screw it up. Carrie rocked!

  21. Amber Elise

I FORGOT they were making another Carrie. Man….why?

I’m super excited for most of the movies! I’m kind of nervous for Catching Fire but I’m going to EXPECT nothing but perfection! 🙂

Aw, this was an extremely nice post. Taking a few minutes and actual effort

  24. Alisa Selene

I didn’t know they were remaking Carrie! I loved the book so I hope I love the movie! I am very excited about the next Hunger Games film and I am interested to see the Mortal Instruments as well! I am excited there is a new trend towards adapting YA’s!

  25. Nereyda @Mostly YA Book Obsessed

Okay, I never thought I would hear you say a Stephenie Meyer book is your favorite but I have heard amazing things about The Host.
OMG, City of Bones looks soooo good!
Carrie looks freaking scary as shit.
Catching Fire is my favorite book in the series. If only they could change that whack ending in Mockingjay…
    Awesome picks!
