Waiting on Wednesday (74)

Posted by

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine
and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week:

Delia‘s Shadow
Jaime Lee Moyer
Release date: September 1st 2013
by Tor

Advance word on Delia’s Shadow:

“Like fog creeping in from the Bay, this ghostly, romantic tale of San Francisco past made the outside world disappear and sent shivery tendrils into my soul. A gorgeous and haunting book.” –Rae Carson, author of The Girl of Fire and Thorns and The Crown of Embers

“Spirits seek vengeance while the young try to build a future in a fog-shrouded San Francisco shaken by more than the great earthquake. This bravura mix of ghost story and historical mystery will chill and grip its readers from first page to last.”—Chaz Brenchley , author of House of Doors and House of Bells

“Moyer creates a hauntingly real San Francisco, full of characters you can’t wait to get to know better. Except for the killer, of course. He’s just disturbing as heck. Delia’s Shadow is an engaging debut novel, one that cost me a good night’s sleep.”—Jim C. HInes, author of Libriomancer: Magic Ex Libris Book 1

DELIA’S SHADOW is harrowing and intense, vibrant both in light and shade. Moyer’s deft handling of her characters (all of them haunted in different ways, how clever!) had me rooting for them from the first page, and her depiction of turn-of-the-century San Francisco was pitch- perfect.—M. K. Hobson, author of Native Star, The Hidden Goddess and The Warlock’s Curse.

“Haunting and sweet, Delias’s Shadow pulls off the rare feat of combining a thrilling ghost story with a gentle romance. A lovely book.”—S. C. Butler, author of The Stoneways Trilogy: Riffen’s Choice, Queen Ferris, and The Magicians’ Daughter

I think this is the first time I’ve been dying to read a book that doesn’t even have a synopsis! But the way these people talk about it makes it sound so good! Like “disturbing as heck” and “
Spirits seek vengeance” and “sent shivery tendrils into my soul”. This one’s for me, right here!

What are you waiting on, this Wednesday?

That hat is crazy, it has so much going on with it. Love the face hiding under the hat though. First I’ve heard of this book, but the reviews sound great. September seems so far away.

  2. Danny

Haha I had that before with a book that only had a cover and some people praising it. This one comes already with such a unique cover!!!

That does sound like quite the book and I’m with you…I cannot recall being really excited about a book before without a synopsis! Thanks for sharing!

Come on by and read our WOW of the week! See ya next week!

LOL since it’s so creepy and mysterious, at least sounds like this, then I’m sure you will devour the heck out of it, because it seems like right up your alley! I hope you enjoy once you get a chance to read it 🙂

Just looking at the hat that girl is wearing I know this book is not for me! I wonder if she is going to a royal wedding? That seems to be the thing they do over there. This does however sound perfect for you, so happy you found it!

This sounds really interesting. I haven’t read any stories with ghosts, but it sounds fantastic. And I LOVE this cover. It’s absolutely gorgeous!!!

Okay I really want to read this too now! And that’s just based on the praise, hah. 😀 I’m looking forward to the final synopsis once it’s up. Brilliant pick, Giselle!

Oh my gosh, I need this book! I hadn’t even heard of it until today, but the San Francisco setting + these blurbs (Rae Carson!!?) means I am helpless to resist. Thanks for sharing and putting this on my radar. 🙂
