Fresh Batch (April 28th – May 4th)

Posted by

Exclusively titled for Xpresso Reads, Fresh Batch features the hottest releases of this upcoming week.

Flavor of the week:

Sweet Peril
Wendy Higgins
Series: The Sweet Trilogy #1
Publication date:  May 1st 2012
by HarperTeen

Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

Sweet series so far:

After earning a Creative Writing degree from George Mason University and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Radford, I taught high school English until becoming a mommy. I’ve always had a heart for teens, and writing YA stories gives me the opportunity to delve into the ambiguities of those pivotal years before adulthood.
I live in the D.C. area with my husband, daughter, son and puppy Rue.

OMG that’s a lot of books!! Sweet Peril was soooo good!!! And OMG Oath Bound!! I still haven’t read Shadow Bound, but I need to get it anyways because I will read it eventually. Love Rachel Vincent.

SO MANY BOOKS!!!! Sweet Peril was an amazing book, and seriously, I’ve only read Storm by Brigid Kemmerer but I met her in real life and she’s so sweet and I would seriously love to buy all of her books and just meet her again! Also, The Eternity Cure was an amazing book, but don’t mind little old me because I love all of Julie’s books it’s becoming a serious problem O_O I’ve heard some iffy things about The Last Academy and The Program (from your review too!) but I’m still kind of excited to read them 🙂

Great post, Giselle! Thanks for sharing!

Until I read it I would’ve been super excited about The Eternity Cure releasing. Now I’m like meh I’ll wait to pick it up on sale down the road.
I’m sort of looking forward to Identity Theft and The Last Academy but the only one I really want upon release is The Program.

Hi! My name is Kayla and I love your website. Although I don’t read the same genre of books as you, we have something in common: we LOVE reading! Anyways, i’m about to start my own blog/website where I not only post book reviews and talk about books, but I’ll be posting recipes, my short stories, my photography, and more. Basically, it will be a place where I can express my interests and passions. Would you please follow/subscribe to my blog? I am trying to make it popular! Anyways, the url is http://www.tulipsandbulldogs.blogspot.com if you want to follow 🙂

All these books coming out in the last week of April and May makes me wnt to hide my wallet so I won’t clean it out. 😮

    I love these posts. x)

I’ve read some great things about The Program, and then some not so great things about it… Same goes with The Boyfriend App. Many of those books look great, but there are none I particularly want. By the way, you were completely right about The 5th Wave! I’ve just posted my review, and it’s just a load of gibberish as Rick Yancey totally blew me away with his novel. It was just fab! 🙂

Eeep, I’m so excited to read so many of these books! Namely Sweet Peril. Like seriously, I feel like I’ve been waiting an eternity just to read that book, and I can’t believe that I get to read it this Tuesday! Also, I’m pretty excited to read The Program despite it’s iffy reviews. And I’ve heard some great things about The Boyfriend App, so I’ll have to pick that one up this week as well.

    Thanks for sharing, Giselle! <3

So many books here that I was super excited for, reviews have been all over the place – The Program, The Ward, Last Academy, Life After Theft… Will probably check out The Program, still, but not sure about the others. But the ones I’m super excited about are Breathless and Bronze Gods – I’ve heard overwhelmingly good things about those. 😀

I thought the 2nd book in Rachel Vincent’s Oath Bound series was quite compelling, I’m looking forward to the 3rd. And Sweet Peril has it’s charms, of course. Need to get back into Jenna Black, I’m a book behind. And looking forward to Bronze Gods. And to checking out many on here I’m not as familiar with as I should be, thanks for the leads.

  10. Melanie

Life After Theft, The Eternity Cure and Between the Lives were all AMAZING! I do believe I gave them all 4 star reviews ;D Thanks for sharing Giselle, I’ll def. be looking out for The Program at my bookstore 😉

Man that is a lot of books! Last Academy looks interesting…though I may be being misled by the cool cover >.< And I really need to get to the Blood of Eden & Storm Series – I own the first few books for each series, I have no clue what the holdup is o.O The Sweet Series looks great too! The Program and The Ward are two that I'm kinda curious about…but also a little 'meh', so we'll see hehe. Thanks for sharing all the pretties ♥

It’s an amazing release week! I’m reading Bronze Gods and The Loop right now. Oh, and The Eternity Cure too, though I’m waiting for a physical copy cause I’ve been having frequent headaches and reading on my kindle fire is painful. Oh and I’m excited to get a finished copy of The Program too!
