After a bizarre accident, Ingrid Waverly is forced to leave London with her mother and younger sister, Gabby, trading a world full of fancy dresses and society events for the unfamiliar city of Paris.
In Paris there are no grand balls or glittering parties, and, disturbingly, the house Ingrid’s twin brother, Grayson, found for them isn’t a house at all. It’s an abandoned abbey, its roof lined with stone gargoyles that could almost be mistaken for living, breathing creatures.
And Grayson has gone missing.
No one seems to know of his whereabouts but Luc, a devastatingly handsome servant at their new home.
Ingrid is sure her twin isn’t dead—she can feel it deep in her soul—but she knows he’s in grave danger. It will be up to her and Gabby to navigate the twisted path to Grayson, a path that will lead Ingrid on a discovery of dark secrets and otherworldly truths. And she’ll learn that once they are uncovered, they can never again be buried.
Gothic novels are my favorite type of books so I’m excited to be sharing this giveaway with my fellow Canadians. The fabulous people at Random House of Canada have generously offered up one finished copy of The Beautiful and the Cursed for giveaway to one of my lucky duck Canadian readers. This giveaway will run until I post my review on May 7th!

Yay for Canadian giveaways! Have you read Carol Goodman/Juliet Dark (same person) or Lee Carroll (Carol and her husband Lee) – they write books with a Gothic feel in a modern setting. I read Demon Lover, The Water Witch, and Black Swan Rising and enjoyed them immensely.
Amanda Stevens Graveyard Queen series has that Gothic feel also.
And thanks for adding to Mt. TBR!

I haven’t read a lot of gothic novels, but they hold a certain mystery and intrigue. I have memories of reading scary books as a kid, right before bed (best idea ever?), and I haven’t seemed to learn my lesson. I love the Walking Dead novels for a good creep factor. I’ve also been meaning to read The Haunting Season by Michelle Muto, which I’ve heard is pretty much the scariest book ever.
Thanks for the great giveaway to Giselle and Random House!

I can’t remember a gothic novel at all. I’ve never once tried this genre. But the plot certainly sounds interesting.

They’re not very scary, but my favorite semi-gothic reads are anything by the Bronte sisters.
Carissa St. Amand
Anything by the Brontës, Nevermore by Kelly Creagh, A Great and Terrible Beauty (of course) by Libba Bray, Darker Still is kind of gothicy…,and, for fun, Northanger Abbey by Austen because it plays so much with the gothic genre of the 18th and 19th centuries 😀

My favourite gothic is definitely In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters. It was fantastic, and I love that it’s featured on your sidebar right now!

Miss.Peregrine’s home for peculiar children!

I’m drawing a blank on Gothic books…I can’t remember if I’ve read any! I don’t read that many creepy books, so I’m drawing a blank on recommendations for those too lol. I *think* you liked Hushed by Kelley York, if I’m not mistaken? Something similar to that one that could be considered creepy is Chemistry by Jodi Lamm. Really dark and twisted. I enjoyed it! I’ve had The Beautiful and the Cursed on my wishlist for ages, so thanks for a chance to win! 🙂

In my teens I read gothics hand over fist! If you can find some of the paperbacks from the 70s (thrift stores, yard sales, etc) I think you’d really enjoy them – my favorites were the Dark Shadows series by Marilyn Ross <3
Vanessa K.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar. It’s really good.

Gothic novels = YES.
Definitely read Wuthering Heights. It’s the best gothic novel I’ve ever read. Dracula was pretty awesome too. And check out the Gemma Doyle series by Libba Bray.

I’ve been looking forward to this book for a long time! Can we judge a book by its cover? Because just look at that gorgeous cover!
