After a daring escape to Earth from Arras, sixteen-year-old Adelice Lewys thought she would finally be in control of her own destiny. She would be free to be true to herself and to her heart—to love Jost, the boy the Guild said she could not have. But Earth is not abandoned, as she’d always been taught it was. It’s inhabited with survivors waging a war against Arras. The world that was supposed to offer a new beginning is still tangled up in the past. Now Adelice is being called upon to harness her phenomenal power and break Earth from the grip of the Guild. But even as she uncovers the truth about her parents and her former life, she discovers that nothing on Earth is as it seems either. Everyone has secrets, especially those she loves most. What’s more, those secrets are driving Adelice and Jost away from each other, and Adelice into his brother Erik’s waiting arms. Now torn between two brothers and two worlds, Adelice must decide what—and who–she’s fighting for, before it’s too late.

I like coffee. A lot. Writing gives me time to go get a cup without my kids. I like books as much as I like coffee, but it is easier to read with children hanging on you than drink coffee due to the threat of third degree burns. That’s why coffee gets top billing in my intro: its unattainability.

I hold a Masters in English with a specialization in 18th century women’s studies. While this is a highly marketable area of expertise, I stay home with my kids, which means my 3 year-old son uses correct grammar and doesn’t burn down the house.

I have a ridiculously supportive husband who dreams of being included on a book jacket: “The author lives in Kansas with her husband, two children, and a Tuesday cat.”

Ahh I’m so sad that the covers were redesigned, because I LOVED the first cover with all of the colors and it made it so unique and eye-catching! I also love the new covers though, especially how they took a generic girl posing and added the hourglass and I have to admit that is really, really cool 🙂

Fantastic post, Giselle <33 I'm so excited to read Altered ahh! *stares at copy on shelf*

    • Amanda

I’m disappointed too, I really loved the original cover. This just feels hooky? Not trying to be a hater! I will definitely buy and probably love the book, the cover is just a thang!

  2. Tammy

I own the first book on my kindle, I just need to start reading it. These covers are very different from the initial one. It gives me a better idea of what the books might be about.

  3. Amber

These covers are absolutely gorgeous! Book covers are one of my favorite types of design as a graphic designer and I absolutely cannot stop staring at these =]

  4. Melanie Lagace

Love this series and love the new covers ! So awesome! Thank for the cover reveal! And this giveaway is epic, thank you! You rock Giselle!

  5. Lyndsey Ammons

The covers are beatiful and they work so well together. I only have Crewel on my ereader so I never see the original cover. I would love to have any of these prizes. Thanks for having a giveaway. 🙂

  6. Melissa

I loved the original cover, its the reason I picked up the book. I think when I first saw the cover I was disappointed in the change.

Nevertheless I love these covers, very shiny and pretty and Matched like.

Dying for the book to come out

  7. Ashley

It’s hard for me because I love and adore when covers match and don’t change through the series. That being said this one really is perfect for it.

  8. Kelley (Another Novel Read)

I just came by to say: NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I mean. Not that these new covers are horrible. They’re okay. But the original cover for Crewel was just GORGEOUS and it really fit well with the way that weaving/creweling was described in the book. I’m pretty disappointed that they redesigned the covers into something so much more contemporary and sci-fi. 🙁

  9. Stephanie @ A Dream Within A Dream

I love the new covers! I thought the original cover for Crewel was gorgeous too, but these are cool. I like the hourglass worked into the cover – it fits well with the story. I CANNOT wait to read Altered!

Thanks to Macmillan & Gennifer for the epic giveaway! 🙂

  10. Karin

The covers are beautiful. I guess better than the original CREWEL cover. You couldn’t really tell at all what the book would be about before.

  11. Jessica @ Step Into Fiction

I don’t like the fact that there’s another series that has a cover change (it’s becoming rather tiresome) but on the other hand, this is one of those books where I actually like the newer covers in comparison to the older one. (I just hate when my books don’t match)

These books would grab my attention a lot more than the previous cover for sure!

  12. HollyB

First of all…GAH!!!! You have NO IDEA what I would give to win a copy of ALTERED!! I was an early lover of CREWEL and have been trying to foist it on anyone and everyone I know, and I have been saying for a year that it doesn’t get nearly enough of the praise and acclaim that it deserves!! (Both the book AND Gennifer and her writing!) I simply cannot wait to read ALTERED, I know that it will without a doubt be one of my favorite reads of 2013, just as CREWEL was in 2012. So excited!

Second, as to the question actually asked…. well, I have to say, as COOL as I think these covers are – and most definitely eye-catching – I am actually kinda sad that they were redesigned! I LOVED the original cover for CREWEL and I actually do like it better than this version. In all honesty, I’m not a huge fan of the “pretty girl on cover” trend…I guess I prefer to have an idea in my head of what the character looks like and not be “forced” into accepting the face of some model on the cover. Yes, I know that technically there was (part of) a face on the original cover, BUT it’s not like this one, it was very vague and in the background and you could still visualize Adelice however you wanted to. HOWEVER, with all that said… if I had never seen the original cover and fallen in love with it and read the brilliance of Gennifer’s story while holding *that cover*, I would probably like these even more. I do appreciate that they incorporate more than just the girl, and I do like the colors and the hourglass shape.

Ultimately, I just want to read THE WORDS, THE STORY, THE CHARACTERS that Gennifer has written and, frankly, it could be a plain black cover on front and back and I would still love and want the book!! Thanks for the awesome giveaway 🙂

  13. Teresa Salvatore

I really like the new look of Crewel! This book has been on my TBR list for quite some time now. I’ll be picking it up when Altered comes out! So many great reviews!

  14. Desiree

I’m not loving these covers. I adored the first Crewel cover. It was so interesting. I don’t think that I would pick up these books at the bookstore if I were going on covers alone. I am very excited for Altered though since I really enjoyed Crewel. Thabks for the giveaway!

  15. fishgirl182 @ nite lite

i am actually not in love with these covers. i think the original cover to crewel was much more interesting. these look kind of like any ya novel to me. i mean they’re well done but i like the original better.

  16. Taylor Knight

While the first cover was great and really pretty, I’d more likely to pick this up in a store.
In my opinion, these covers are more clear about what the series is about. With the odd cover ( I , like, just now noticed the odd cover is a girl’s face. Before I thought it was just a bunch of pretty colors), did really show what the series is about.
Now it’s very clear to me that this is a dystopia series and has something to do with time or time travel.
While I haven’t read this series yet, I’m now really interested in the series.

  17. Grace Radford/Anna Pett

I like them! They’re super pretty, and I love the hourglass thing because the series has to do with manipulating time! AHHH. Honestly, I like these better than the original. I was curious to see how they were going to make a cover to match it, but this makes SO much more sense.

  18. Christina @ Christina Reads YA

Blah. A part of me was cringing because I knew you were posting the cover reveal here today, and I knew I would not be able to include in my bookish rounds. *Sigh* 😛

I really liked the first cover, but I also like these. I like how they’ve shown the dystopia portion of the world with the city crumbling down, and how weaving time is shown with the hourglass. I also love the vibrant colors. The only nitpick I’d have is that it doesn’t quite give me the Mad Men/50s kind of feel. The girl is glamorized without being historical. I don’t know if that makes sense, but thank you for sharing them with us!

  19. Darith L.

I really love the hourglass effect and the crupling of the city buildings as shown from the first to the second cover. Love them covers!

  20. Lori

I’m definitely in the minority here but I really loved the original cover. These look like pretty generic YA covers to me. I understand how they work with the series and what the books are about and the hourglass effect is nice, but I like unique covers like the original one more.

  21. Angie

Oh man. I loved the original cover of Crewel, but I love the new cover even more and the cover of Altered is even better! And they fit the story so much better as well. YAY!

  22. Annabell

The covers are both quite lovely. I particularly love the one for Altered! Definitely looking forward to checking the books out (or winning *hehe*)!

  23. Lauren

Haha, even though I’m totally OCD and like to match my covers, I can’t deny the absolute loveliness of these new covers! Thanks for sharing 😀

  24. Lauren @ Lose Time Reading

I think the new covers are gorgeous but I prefer the old cover sadly 🙁 It was just so shiny and beautiful.. ah. Well, TBH I haven’t seen these in real life yet obviously so maybe I will love these just as much; I didn’t think the original cover for Crewel was as stunning until I seen the physical book. I love how the covers are different colors though. I enjoy when series are the same but different 😛 Awesome reveal and giveaway Giselle 🙂 You always have the most AMAZING events!

  25. Lindsay

I love the new covers, I thought the old one was beautiful but these are amazing. I love how Adelice looks so much more intense in the Altered cover. I can’t wait to buy Altered!

  26. Alise

Oh my gosh, I love these new covers. I just brought Crewel and couldn’t help but think the cover could be better so this is great news. I might just go out and buy a new copy 🙂

  27. Michelle Willms

I love the new covers. The design with the main character blending into the landscape is quite appealing. Very nicely done.

  28. Ashley

I liked the original cover of Crewel, but honestly… the redesign (and Altered cover) is pretty freaking awesome! I approve!

  29. dhampirism

Wow, these books have seriously amazing covers! That, in combination with the summary, definitely makes me want to read the series.

  30. Kiersten

I really like the new covers, but I think I like the old cover of Crewel better. I haven’t gotten to read it yet, though, so maybe this new cover sets a better tone for the story.

  31. Denise Z

I really love the vivid coloring and the fact that they appear to stay true to the storyline and consistent. I am definitely intrigued and would love to read these books.

  32. Bonnie Hilligoss

I love the colors and the hour glass effect, but I really liked the old cover better. Thank you for the giveaway!

  33. Allie L

I love the new cover. In my opinion, they are so much better than the old covers. I especially like how the bottom part of the hourglass represents the setting. 😀

  34. Julia Rain

Honestly I prefer the original covers, but these are a bit more dynamic. Either way, I’d like to read them.

  35. Christina T

They are gorgeous, they really seem to just pop out at you and get your attention. Though the old cover was nice these are much better.
