10 #OZYA Books I Need in My Life

Posted by

I love complaining but my fav thing to complain about is how I cannot read so many amazing #OZYA books because I cannot afford to pay a fortune in shipping and because they are not available outside of Australia. So here is a list of 10 books I want to read so badly and am hoping will be published outside of Australia.

1. Spark by Rachael Craw

I’ve had this on my TBR since before it came out and it just appeals to me on a spiritual level. Superpowers? Kids who are experiments gone wrong? YES PLEASE.

2. Holier Than Thou by Laura Buzo

This one is a YA/NA crossover that I’ve had on my TBR since my early Goodreads years. I absolutely love the sound of it and am DYING to be able to read it. Also

3. All I Ever Wanted by Vikki Wakefield

To be fair, a lot of Wakefield’s books have been published outside of Australia so I think there is a good chance this one will be too but I’ve had it on my TBR forever and thought I’d add it to this list. Mim wants to be anywhere but home and her life turns upside down nine days before her seventeenth birthday.

4. Dragonfly Song by Wendy Orr

This book has a gorgeous cover but also the kind of synopsis that sucks you in. It’s also pitched as a “mythic, bronze age adventure.”

5. The Sidekicks by Will Kostakis

This tells the story of The Swimmer, The Rebel and The Nerd who after losing their friend are completely lost. They were the sidekicks and without Issac to keep them together, aren’t entirely sure about who they are. I needs it.

6. The First Third by Will Kostakis

I know, I know, another book by the same author is kind of cheating but I couldn’t help myself! Billy’s grandmother gives him her bucket list and now it’s his job to essentially fix his family. Doesn’t that sound like the kind of contemporary you could gobble up? Please just someone publish this book outside of Australia.

7. The Yearbook Commitee by Sarah Ayoub

“Five unlikely teammates are thrust together against their will.” Sold. I didn’t need anything besides that line anyway. But what I do need is this book.

8. Saltwater Vampires by Kristy Eagar

I am not that into vampires but when written by an Aussie author I am into a lot of things. Also it’s Kristy Eagar, obviously I want to read a book she’s written about vampires.

9. When Michael Met Mina by Randa Abdul-Fatta

Most of Abdul-Fattah’s books have been published outside of Australia and I want this one to be too. Does My Head Look Big in This by Randa Abdul-Fattah changed my life when I was a little pre-teen and while I haven’t read anything else by her, I am selfish and want all of the books she has ever written to be accessible to meeeeee.

10. Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley

So this one isn’t even out yet in Australia but that doesn’t mean I don’t want it. I’ve had it on my TBR since 2013 and I desperately want to be able to read and love it and sing if praises. Henry and Rachel used to be best friends until Rachel moved away and now she is back and mourning the loss of her brother. So much saddness to be had but also there is a bookstore where love letters are exchanged and that just makes my bookworm heart happy.

Rashika has been tired since 2013. There are very few things that spark joy for her besides a nice cup of tea, warm, baked goods, good books and good TV shows. She is here to pile onto your giant TBRs and to-watch lists. Offer her a cookie and she might be nice to you.

I know what you mean, it’s hard when you can’t find the books anywhere else! Dragonfly Song sounds particularly good, I love historical fiction. The only time I’ve ordered a book from Australia was to get Every Move (the third book in the Every series by Ellie Marney). I NEEDED it and it was worth it, but I can’t do that very often.

I am so so excited to read Every Move and am a little worried because there doesn’t seem to be a US release date on GR but I am crossing my fingers. I am so glad to hear it was worth it though because I REALLY MISS RACHEL AND JAMES.
