Acclaimed author Katie McGarry returns with the knockout new story of two high school seniors who are about to learn what winning really means.

Champion kickboxer Haley swore she'd never set foot in the ring again after one tragic night. But then the guy she can't stop thinking about accepts a mixed martial arts fight in her honor. Suddenly, Haley has to train West Young. All attitude, West is everything Haley promised herself she'd stay away from. Yet he won't last five seconds in the ring without her help.

West is keeping a big secret from Haley. About who he really is. But helping her-fighting for her-is a shot at redemption. Especially since it's his fault his family is falling apart. He can't change the past, but maybe he can change Haley's future.

Hayley and West have agreed to keep their relationship strictly in the ring. But as an unexpected bond forms between them and attraction mocks their best intentions, they'll face their darkest fears and discover love is worth fighting for.

Interview with Katie McGarry

Hi Katie! Thanks so much for dropping by the blog (again! :))! Being a big fan of the Pushing the Limits series it’s an honour to have you back to chat about Take Me On!

To start, if you were to describe Take Me On with just one word, what would it be?

Passionate

And since we’re all excited to meet West, describe him in a tweet (140 characters)

I had to write this in my Twitter screen to make sure I met the 140 characters, but don’t worry, I didn’t push Tweet. 🙂

West is a hot mess. A fighter, a lover, a brother, a friend. Hurt, broken, thrown away. He battles through it all because he has heart.

And now Haley!

Haley is a force of nature. Fierce, strong, a hurricane when she’s at the top of her game. But she’s alone, terrified, and afraid to love.

What’s your favourite aspect about West and/or his relationship with Haley?

I love how West always pushes his interactions and conversations with Haley to the point that she gets so flustered that she laughs. Over the past year, Haley hasn’t had a lot of joy in her life and West reminds her that there are some things in life worth enjoying and that love is something worth fighting for.

Were there any challenges in writing the characters or the romance in Take Me On?

It hurt to write West and Haley’s stories. It was definitely an emotional rollercoaster for me and I cried several times while writing. Two scenes in particular hurt so much to write that I had to take breaks from the scenes.

Out of all the books in this series, which romance did you have the most fun writing?

Definitely West and Haley. There’s a scene in Haley’s bedroom that was so emotionally romantic that I read it again and again. The give and take between West and Haley is electric and I could have written them forever!

Now a bit about you: tell us 5 (or more if you feel inspired) fun/surprising/random facts about yourself.

  • I can play piano, but I’m awful at reading music notes.
  • Hot chocolate with whip cream is my favorite treat.
  • I love wearing high heel boots.
  • My favorite music artists are Guns N Roses, Eminem, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, and Hillsong.
  • My first book crush was Gilbert from ANNE OF GREEN GABLES. My first TV crush was Ty Miller from the YOUNG RIDERS. My first movie crush was Balthazar Getty from YOUNG GUNS II. My first musician crush was Jon Bon Jovi.

I, and I’m sure many others, can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us in the future – especially after having read about the new series you have brewing! 😉 Thanks for visiting today!

About the Author

Katie was a teenager during the age of grunge and boy bands and remembers those years as the best and worst of her life. She is a lover of music, happy endings, reality television, and is a secret University of Kentucky basketball fan.

Katie is the author of the full-length Young Adult novels PUSHING THE LIMITS and DARE YOU TO, and the e-novella CROSSING THE LINE. Her debut novel, PUSHING THE LIMITS, is a 2012 Goodreads Choice Finalist for YA Fiction and an RT Book Reviews 2012 Reviewer’s Choice Awards Nominee for Young Adult Contemporary Novel.

Writing has given Katie an excuse to pursue her passions. Research for her books has provided her with the amazing opportunity to train with baseball players, ride along in a drag car at ninety-six miles per hour and experience boxing and mixed martial arts. The most memorable moments for Katie are when she speaks to groups of teenagers about her research, writing and the truth that no dream is out of reach. Katie would love to hear from her readers.

My copy just arrived the other day. I’m behind on this series big time. I read the first book and loved it and purchased the following 3 books, but haven’t read them yet. I’ve got to get at it. They all sound so good.

  2. Kara

Awesome. Thanks for the stop! This is the last stop. I’m happy about her release … even thought it was on the 27 .. that wasn’t too long ago. I see that I need to brush up on my music. . .I haven’t heard of half the bands / people she named.

  3. Mary @ BookSwarm

Oh, girl. As if I couldn’t adore you any more, you say you’re a Guns and Roses fan. “Paradise City” was my senior prom theme (yes, I’m old). *sings* Take me down to a-Paradise City… *bangs head*

  4. andie

Haven’t read any of her books before this – but can’t wait!!! Very excited at the prospect of having this for my next summer read.

  5. Lisa @ Lost in Literature

Yes to hot chocolate with whipped cream! Yum!! 🙂 I’m reading Crash Into You right now and I’m looking forward to starting this one once I finish. Thanks for sharing the fun interview! 🙂

  6. Jenny V.

I love Katie’s books, and I loved reading West and Haley’s story. I laughed because Gilbert was my first book crush, too, and Paradise City by GNR is one my all-time favorite songs.

  8. Susan T.

I’m just getting into this genre so I haven’t read any books by this author yet. Everyone tells me that her books are awesome so I’m excited to read them!

  9. Suzanne Edwards

Well, I don’t even know where to start! I have been waiting patiently for “Take Me On” to come out (yeah right, I also have an elephant to sell you!) Anyway, I am so excited (squeal) for this one! I have been pretty much obsessed with ALL the books in the “Pushing The Limits” series! My favorite was Isaiah and Rachel’s story in “Crash Into You” Thank you for this opportunity and interview. I can’t wait to see how bad guy West wins Haley 🙂

  10. Emily Anne

I absolutely LOVED Crash Into You and Pushing the Limits!!! I need to read Take Me On and Dare You To! (I’m so embarrassed that I haven’t read Dare You To yet. It’s been out for a while! *all the shame*) Also, after this interview, I am really excited to officially meet West and Haley 🙂 Thank you so so so much Giselle and Katie McGarry for the post!

  11. Nereyda @Mostly YA Book Obsessed

Your blog doesn’t hate me anymore! Have you read this? I hope you like it. My favorites are still Pushing the Limits and Crash Into You but I really really liked this one too. West and Haley are awesome. BUT Abby! OMG, this girl needs her own book! Her and Logan please. Great interview!

  12. Meredith

I haven’t read any of her novels, but after this interview I definitely will! I have all ready added all of Kate’s novels to my Goodreads shelf.

  13. Karen Maldonado

I love the series, Noah and Isaiah and Echo, and Rachel and West and Haley, Ryan and Beth, Abby. Mostly everyone. The books are so amazingly good, packed with feels.

  14. Melanie (YA Midnight Reads)

West and Haley had such a sweet romance. I can also play piano, but I suck at reading music notes as well lol. I dont get those people who can just pick a random piece and play it perfectly.

    Lovely interview, ladies! <33

  15. Pili

I still haven’t started reading this series, but the more I read about it, the more I feel like I ought to start it already!

  16. Viki S.

I love the interview. Good question that let us into the workings of the characters. Thank you.

  17. Faye D'Social Potato (@kawaiileena)

Wow! You can really tell the author is into it if even she cries and suffers with her characters. The book is passionate, but it seems the author really is, too. I loved this interview! I may not have liked the second book, but I’m willing to give this one a try just to see what those scenes were.

  18. Holly U

Oh my gosh, I LOVE Katie McGarry’s books! Pushing the Limits is one of my favorites. And I seriously can’t wait to read Take Me On. 🙂 Reading the interview makes me scared to start it, because Katie always manages to make me cry in her books and break my heart a little. To hear how it affected her? Oh gosh. I don’t know if I’m ready for that. 😉

  19. shelley @ gizmos reviews

I’m truly disappointed in HQ for ignoring my request for this even though I put it in on the first day. I will eventually read this book because Katie is a pretty amazing writer.

  21. Joycedale

Absolutely love this series! Have already read them all as ebooks but would love actual books.

  22. Kelsey McFee

I have read all the book other then Take Me On and I love the characters, but I love how she can put actual people problems into her books. She is a gifted writer and I hope she writes more books.

  23. Erica Douglas

  26. Jaime Lester

I have to be honest with you here. I have not yet read any of these books. BUT I have the first book and the second, and I absolutely cannot wait to read them all. I let my sister and my best friend borrow them because I am too nice!, and they adored them, so I know that I will too. Even though it is way out of my normal genre! Thanks so much for the awesome giveaway! And hopefully I will be swooning with you over West soon!

  27. Beckie

I’ve read ALL of her books, and worked with Katie personally. She is an amazing author and super nice gal. I am SO excited to read Take Me on. 😉 *does happy dance*
