Acclaimed author Katie McGarry returns with the knockout new story of two high school seniors who are about to learn what winning really means.

Champion kickboxer Haley swore she'd never set foot in the ring again after one tragic night. But then the guy she can't stop thinking about accepts a mixed martial arts fight in her honor. Suddenly, Haley has to train West Young. All attitude, West is everything Haley promised herself she'd stay away from. Yet he won't last five seconds in the ring without her help.

West is keeping a big secret from Haley. About who he really is. But helping her-fighting for her-is a shot at redemption. Especially since it's his fault his family is falling apart. He can't change the past, but maybe he can change Haley's future.

Hayley and West have agreed to keep their relationship strictly in the ring. But as an unexpected bond forms between them and attraction mocks their best intentions, they'll face their darkest fears and discover love is worth fighting for.

Interview with Katie McGarry

Hi Katie! Thanks so much for dropping by the blog (again! :))! Being a big fan of the Pushing the Limits series it’s an honour to have you back to chat about Take Me On!

To start, if you were to describe Take Me On with just one word, what would it be?

Passionate

And since we’re all excited to meet West, describe him in a tweet (140 characters)

I had to write this in my Twitter screen to make sure I met the 140 characters, but don’t worry, I didn’t push Tweet. 🙂

West is a hot mess. A fighter, a lover, a brother, a friend. Hurt, broken, thrown away. He battles through it all because he has heart.

And now Haley!

Haley is a force of nature. Fierce, strong, a hurricane when she’s at the top of her game. But she’s alone, terrified, and afraid to love.

What’s your favourite aspect about West and/or his relationship with Haley?

I love how West always pushes his interactions and conversations with Haley to the point that she gets so flustered that she laughs. Over the past year, Haley hasn’t had a lot of joy in her life and West reminds her that there are some things in life worth enjoying and that love is something worth fighting for.

Were there any challenges in writing the characters or the romance in Take Me On?

It hurt to write West and Haley’s stories. It was definitely an emotional rollercoaster for me and I cried several times while writing. Two scenes in particular hurt so much to write that I had to take breaks from the scenes.

Out of all the books in this series, which romance did you have the most fun writing?

Definitely West and Haley. There’s a scene in Haley’s bedroom that was so emotionally romantic that I read it again and again. The give and take between West and Haley is electric and I could have written them forever!

Now a bit about you: tell us 5 (or more if you feel inspired) fun/surprising/random facts about yourself.

  • I can play piano, but I’m awful at reading music notes.
  • Hot chocolate with whip cream is my favorite treat.
  • I love wearing high heel boots.
  • My favorite music artists are Guns N Roses, Eminem, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, and Hillsong.
  • My first book crush was Gilbert from ANNE OF GREEN GABLES. My first TV crush was Ty Miller from the YOUNG RIDERS. My first movie crush was Balthazar Getty from YOUNG GUNS II. My first musician crush was Jon Bon Jovi.

I, and I’m sure many others, can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us in the future – especially after having read about the new series you have brewing! 😉 Thanks for visiting today!

About the Author

Katie was a teenager during the age of grunge and boy bands and remembers those years as the best and worst of her life. She is a lover of music, happy endings, reality television, and is a secret University of Kentucky basketball fan.

Katie is the author of the full-length Young Adult novels PUSHING THE LIMITS and DARE YOU TO, and the e-novella CROSSING THE LINE. Her debut novel, PUSHING THE LIMITS, is a 2012 Goodreads Choice Finalist for YA Fiction and an RT Book Reviews 2012 Reviewer’s Choice Awards Nominee for Young Adult Contemporary Novel.

Writing has given Katie an excuse to pursue her passions. Research for her books has provided her with the amazing opportunity to train with baseball players, ride along in a drag car at ninety-six miles per hour and experience boxing and mixed martial arts. The most memorable moments for Katie are when she speaks to groups of teenagers about her research, writing and the truth that no dream is out of reach. Katie would love to hear from her readers.
