Dare You To Tour Stop: Playlist Song, Excerpt + Giveaway

Posted by

Pushing the Limits was one of my favorite books of last year so I am very excited to be on the tour for its companion sequel, Dare You To. I have a short excerpt for you today with a playlist song, plus a fantastic giveaway for you lovely peeps! Thanks to Kismet Book Touring for organizing this tour!

Dare You To
Katie McGarry
Series: Pushing the Limits #2
Publication date: May 28th 2013
by Harlequin Teen

Ryan lowers his lips to my ear. “Dance with me, Beth.”

“No.” I whisper the reply. I hate him and I hate myself for wanting him to touch me again….

“I dare you…”

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk’s home life, they’d send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom’s freedom and her own happiness. That’s how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn’t want her and going to a school that doesn’t understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn’t get her, but does….

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can’t tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn’t be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won’t let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all…

Dare You To Sneak Peek & Playlist Song

“Dirt Road Anthem” by Jason Aldean

In the back field that borders three farms, a field party rages without me, Logan, and Chris. Parties are great. They have girls, girls who drink beer, dancing, girls who like dancing, and guys who hate dancing but do it anyway in the hope of laying the girls who drink beer.

Ten minutes into the party, the three of us took on a dare. Actually, I took on a dare. Chris and Logan are along for the ride.

“You can’t pull this one off.” Chris walks beside me as we head toward the cars parked neatly in a line. The full moon gives the field a silver glow and the scent of bonfire smoke hangs in the air.

“That’s because you have no imagination.”

“This is going to be sweet,” Logan says when I head toward a group of defensive linemen enjoying their own private party.

Tim Richardson owns a mammoth-size, ozone-killing truck, which is good, because the four guys sitting on lawn chairs on the back of it easily weigh 275 pounds each. Tim liberates a can of beer from his cooler and tosses it to me. “What’s going on, Ry?”

“Nothing.” I put the cold can on the tailgate. No drinking for me. I’ve got business to take care of…

Oooooh, this excerpt sounds daring haha. I want to read this baby sooooo bad. Cannot wait! I know it’s hard to live up to PtL and it probably won’t, but Ryan seems like a cool dude and Beth is one of my favorite characters from this series. I wanted for her to end up with Isaiah, but wth.. If not, then that’s okay. As long as Ryan suits well for her and makes her happy:-) Thanks for sharing, babe!

  2. Amy

I love that song!!! I am going to hopefully be reading Dare You To this week!! I can’t wait since I loved Pushing the Limits!

  3. Kaci Boutwell

I love YA contemporary because it deals more with characters a little closer to my age. They deal with problems I am going through and have been through so I can relate.

    Great giveaway!!

  4. Jacquelynne

I absolutely LOVED both of these novels, I think Dare You To more than Pushing the Limits! I can’t wait to see what everyone thinks about this book 🙂 Beth is a faaantastic character a little rough around the edges but I really liked her!

Also best song ever! Definitely fits the scene! 🙂

  5. Maidenveil

I love how they portray relevant issues of young adolescents and at the same time show how they try to resolve them, and mature in the process.

  6. dyingheartache

I love the reality of New Adult books. They are a good palate cleanser after all the paranormal or dystopian that i read. It refreshes my mind with usually sweet & sexy real life fantasies instead of make believe!

    thanks!

  7. erin

Thanks for the fun post and giveaway! I’m really liking NA b/c of the original storylines and more mature drama 🙂

  8. Alikiya

Can’t wait to read Dare You To!~ I love YA Contemporary ’cause I find that it’s easier to relate to the characters and it’s a more realistic story. I’m trying to step away from the supernatural at the moment, and YA Contemporary has really caught me in its clutches

  9. Bailey

Loved Pushing The Limits and can’t wait to read this one! I’m excited that it’s Beth’s story this time around. 🙂

  10. Megan K.

Ooh, I remember this scene! And I think the song, while unfamiliar to me an totally not my kind of music – fits perfectly with this. Ryan and his silly dares. *sigh* Just thinking about him makes me swoon. Can’t wait till Dare You To is released. Thanks for sharing, Giselle!

  11. Julie Burford

I love that you can relate to what the characters may be going through in YA Contemporary Romances. They go through real life situations and have believable relationships.

  12. Lauren Elizabeth

Ooh love the song choice, it goes really well with this book, and with this scene! Love this book SO much. I can’t wait for Isaiah’s story. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

  13. Aman

OMG, I love that scene! Their dare was so hilarious. DYT is so so good and I can’t wait to buy a copy for my shelf. Though it’s the first time I’m hearing that song and it’s pretty good.

  14. Sam

Apparently the video isn’t available in my country, but I’ll be sure to check it out somewhere else. Just reading that little snippet there makes me want to pick up this book again. Love Ryan’s character! 🙂

Thanks for sharing, Giselle. Sorry that I haven’t been around much/commenting lately, by the way. Haven’t been very well but I’m slowly trying to catch up!

  15. Shooting Stars Mag

Love songs that fit books- and this is one that I do enjoy, even though I don’t listen to a TON of new country music. I need to read Pushing the Limits still, but sounds like some great books.

  16. Alexa Y.

I loved this one! It was so much fun to read, and I truly liked Ryan. The thing I love most about contemporary novels is the fact that I’m allowed to experience all different sorts of realities for teens, even though I’m well past my own teenage years.

  17. Eileen

Omg I remember you absolutely loveloveloved Pushing the Limits and I seriously think that Beth and Ryan’s story is even more fantastic! Seriously, AHHH I want to reread it already lol! I remember that excerpt too, I just love everything about this entire book lol. Fantastic post, Giselle!! 😀

  18. Nancy

I love how the relationship between the characters develops, in a romantic way, I think that’s my favorite part. Whether they’ve known each other forever or they recently meet.

  19. Melanie

*dreamy sigh* Katie McGarry’s books are just too sweet and heart breaking at the same time. Hope you enjoy reding this one, Giselle! I certainly did.

Thanks for sharing that exerpt and playlist, the song’s rather catchy! 🙂 <33

I think what I love most about YA contemporary is that, as a high school student, it’s really easy to relate to the story. Sometimes I’ll read something and start cracking up for no reason. I’ll then get in trouble because my teachers don’t understand what it’s like to read YA.

  21. Meghan

They are just written about a good time in our lives. High school is just a great time and a time where we all grow.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  22. That Girl Reads

I like but don’t like YA books. I like that while reading them I can be “young” again, lol, but I’m not so much a fan of the teeny-bop language some authors like or most of the drama a lot of the books in this genre have, lol. I like very very few YA authors/books.

  23. bianca loves books1995

what i love about YA contemporary is that, as a high school student, it’s really easy to relate to the all the books ive read my friends are always telling me i have no life cause i always read books but i beg to differ a reader lives a thousand lives before he dies the man who never reads only lives one. 🙂

  24. Sierra

I’ve only just started getting interested in this genre but the stories of the characters and how it makes them unique is probably my favorite part 🙂 If the character is funny and original I’m in love 😀 Great giveaway, thanks!

  25. Aly C.

I love how real the characters feel and how I can relate to them so easily. I feel like I’m in their shoes sometimes.

  26. Kamla L.

It’s like getting to relive my youth vicariously through the characters and therefore being more awesome and adventurous than I was back when.
