Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week:

Waiting on Wednesday (96)Fiendish by Brenna Yovanoff
Published by Razorbill on 2014
Genres: Thriller, YA
Goodreads

A creepily atmospheric new novel from the NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of THE REPLACEMENT

Clementine DeVore spent ten years trapped in a cellar, pinned down by willow roots, silenced and forgotten. Now she’s out and determined to uncover who put her in that cellar and why.

When Clementine was a child, dangerous and inexplicable things started happening in New South Bend. The townsfolk blamed the fiendish people out in the Willows and burned their homes to the ground. But magic kept Clementine alive, walled up in the cellar for ten years, until a boy named Fisher sets her free. Back in the world, Clementine sets out to discover why her childhood was taken from her. But the truth gets muddled in her attraction to Fisher, the politics of New South Bend and the hollow, a fickle and terrifying place that seems increasingly temperamental ever since Clementine reemerged.

A new Brenna Yovanoff!! Yay! Paper Valentine is the only one I read from her but it was so well written – kind of gothic-y and creepy. I loved it. But even if it wasn’t an author that I know could rock it, this premise sounds right up my alley! And I mean, look at that cover! <3 [br]

2013 DNFs [Part 2]

Hi everyone. I actually have not DNFed many books since the last round-up post back in May (which is a good thing) but just recently I did have to put down a few so instead of posting full reviews for them I like to do these round-up posts to explain why a book didn’t work for me – and hey maybe what I hate is something you love in books, you never know! 🙂

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews featuring the books we got this week, and I also mention blog news/happenings of the past week. Hi everyone! Happy thanksgiving weekend to my fellow Canadians! And that means Halloween is just around the corner, too! Anyone have big plans or costume parties? I’m gonna be off trick-or-treating with my 3 year old which should be awesome (I get to eat all the candy once he’s in bed! Muahahaha). Anyways, sorry I’ve been MIA from Twitter lately, I’ve been pretty busy with things and we also got Netflix last week so yeeaaah. 😀 Now for my book haul. Only got some ebooks this week and last. I think my mailman is on strike >.<

Review: Reality Boy by A.S. King

Review: Reality Boy by A.S. King

This story was absolutely messed up and also incredibly fascinating, with one of the most dysfunctional family units I have yet to come across. Reality shows are all the rave in the recent years, Reality Boy is the best example of how these shows are the opposite of reality. Do we ever stop to think of the psychological toll they take on a child? Especially when too young to understand how life can be so unfair. Network Nanny, the show in this book, is not very far off from our own running Reality shows. How do you think the kids in Supernanny will grow up with everyone at school, in their whole town, have seen them at their worst? Imagine your childhood tantrums shown on national TV! More often than…

Book Girls Don’t Cry: eBook vs Print

Book Girls Don’t Cry is a weekly feature where we each discuss/vent/advise on the chosen weekly bookish topic. Don’t miss Jenni on Mondays, and Amy on Saturdays:

Ebook or Paperbook – the big debate

Do you have preference on the form you read? I know some prefer reading ebooks above everything else, and others will argue that nothing will ever replace the print book. Do you think print books would ever become extinct? I don’t personally, but who knows?

In favor of eBooks: In some cases I will like print books better, but in others the ebook wins. For instance, if I’m reading at night I prefer reading on my Kobo because it has a light, whereas a print book I need to sit where my lamp is and…

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week:

This sounds like my kind of creepeh! Plus just knowing it’s from the horror guru themselves – Tor Books – makes me want to read it all the more! The authors described it as “dark and disturbing” on a cover reveal post I saw. Cmon, y’all know me by now! How could I not want to read this? 😀
