Debut Author Lovin’!

  • Even When You Lie to Me by Jessica Alcott: Oh, taboo love! I’m a sucker for unconventional romances, and teacher/student romance falls into that – unless it’s creepy or the age gap is way big, then no. But I’m curious about this one.
  • The Night We Said Yes by Lauren Gibaldi: I just grabbed this one off EW and was checking out the early reviews earlier – people are loving it so far and it sounds like a great romance. Spanning over the course of one night, too.
  • Scarlett Undercover by Jennifer Latham: Being used to adult mysteries, YA mysteries can be very hit or miss for me. But the mention of Veronica Mars has me reeaaally intrigued! I loved that show so hard!!
  • Skyscraping by Cordelia Jensen: This one caught my eye because the cover is so pretteh, but the premise also sounds just as great – gritty and very family oriented which sounds like a winner to me!
  • Made You Up by Francesca Zappia: Ooh psychological mind-f*ck kinda books are the best, and the blurb mentions an unreliable narrator – books like these often end up being favs of mine!

  • City of Salvages by Lee Kelly: Wow! A dystopian that could actually be really unique (or at least sounds like it from the blurb)! I’m a big fan of post-world-tragedy/dystopian stories and it sounds like it has a lot to go for it – family, friendship (so not just romance).
  • Last Year’s Mistake by Gina Ciocca: We all need a good feel-good romance once in a while! (Or at least I do!) And this one seems to be told in past/present POV – I know that’s not for everyone but I usually am a big fan!
  • We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach: This one is definietly going to be thought provoking – or has that potential anyways. I mean imagine knowing the earth is about to end! O_O
  • Everything That Makes You by Moriah McStay: I love alternate “what if” books (reminds me of Just Like Fate which I really liked) so this one caught my eye a while ago when it landed on EW. I plan to read it soon, too, woot!

  1. Nick @ Nick's Book Blog

I’m so excited for Last Year’s Mistake and the Last Time We Said Yes. The latter especially sounds amazing. Even When You Lie to Me sounds really good as well.
I was reading Everything That Makes You last night and I ended up DNFing it. I expected it to be more of an emotional read. I’m curious to hear your thoughts though!
    Great list, Giselle!

  2. Laura Plus Books

Oooh, I didn’t realise that Everything That Makes You by Moriah McStay was a debut! For some reason, I thought it was a sequel because the cover reminded me of another book. I’m definitely intrigued by that one now!

  3. Pili

I also love unreliable narrators, so Made You Up is one of those I foresee enjoying too, reminds me a bit of Of Scars & Stardust too!

  4. Katrina @ Bookish Things

I need to add Even When You Lie to Me to my wishlist. I like stories like that too. The Last Night We Said Yes is on my top ten too. The cover reminds me of being in high school and going to field parties.

  5. Jessie Marie Reads

I’m somewhat out of the loop as far as 2015 debut authors are concerned but this is a great jumping off point. From what you said about Made You Up, I’m most intrigued by that. I love books that mess with your head (effectively) and unreliable narrators, too. I’ll need that book in my life ASAP.

Can’t wait to see what you think of all these!

  6. Jasprit

This is the last post that I’ve seen mention Last Year’s Mistake, and I hadn’t heard of it before that! I love me some feel god romances so will definitely be adding that to the tbr! Everything That Makes You and The Night We Said Yes are two of my highly anticipated debuts, I hope we both end up enjoying them!

  7. Hollie

We share a couple of the same books, I’m really looking forward to The Night We Said Yes. Skyscraping sounds like a really intense read, definitely not what I was expecting it to be!

  8. ShootingStarsMag

I do want to read Made You Up. It sounds great, and I like books that deal with mental illness. I hadn’t heard of Even When You Lie to Me but I find teacher/student relationships fascinating too.

  9. Melanie (YA Midnight Reads)

Yes, I’m really curious about Even When You Lie to Me as well! I definitely will be avoiding it if it’s some gross age gap but a small one will be fine with me. I have The Night We Said Yes as well! So glad to hear that it’s being well received so far.

    Great list there, Giselle! <33

  10. Cee

So excited for Made You Up because unreliable narrators are always fun. You don’t know if they’re telling the truth or not.

I’m really looking forward to Mosquitoland and Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda! 😀

  11. Dreams

Oh my gosh, I cannot believe I haven’t heard of any of these guys before! I feel like such a blogging failure for being behind on hearing about upcoming debut books. Thank heavens for this weeks TTT, otherwise I might be further behind.

  12. Jeann @ Happy Indulgence

There are so many wonderful books getting released this year and I love how many of them are psychological thrillers or about mental illness! I love the sound of Everything That Makes You and of course, Scarlett Undercover because I love VM as well!

  13. Hannah

So excited – and so many fantastic books to choose from!

One that’s not on the list that I’m looking forward to is Victoria Aveyard’s Red Queen – I’ve been hearing great things!

  14. Carina Olsen

Yay for bunch of pretty books. <3 I'm not going to read any of these, hih, but they do all sound pretty exciting 😀 I hope you will read and love them all sweetie. <3

  15. Olivia

I actually have a review copy of Made You Up, so I honestly cannot wait to read it! I hadn’t heard of Damage Done before now, but it sounds promising and I love the cover, so onto my TBR it goes.
