A Semi-Definitive List of My 5 Worst Fears/Nightmares

Posted by

Hey hey hey! A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares is an important book that addresses mental health/phobias so I decided to share some of my fears/nightmares with y’all. Things are about to get weirdly personal (but also a little silly because that’s just who I am so if you’re not into that, I say it’s time to close your browser or email and do something else.

A Semi-Definitive List of My 5 Worst Fears/Nightmares

1. When I was a kid, I developed an odd fear of heights that never went away. When I was a kid, it wasn’t that the height scared me but more that I would lose something or someone important to me. Now it’s both?

2. Dying alone. I know a lot of people will share this fear/nightmare but I am afraid of dying alone while simultaneously having semi-excepted that as my destiny?

3. Being forgotten. Semi-relevant to the one above but also, like, I’ve had various nightmares of people just not caring that I am a human being so that’s a thing. I had one very vivid one where even I had forgotten it was my birthday and when I remembered, no one cared.

4. Not accomplishing much with my life. I come from a line of over-achievers so it’s always been kind of an expectation that I too will do something with my life. This has led to multiple crises throughout my life as I try to figure out what to do.

5. ALL INSECTS. I HATE THEM. SO MUCH. I once had a dream where a cockroach I killed came back to life with its cockroach friends and killed me SO. I DONT LIKE INSECTS. GET THEM AWAY FROM ME.

To sum up, I have plenty of fears but also, a lot of them are tied to anxiety because I’ve always been a very anxious person. My environment is a huge stimulant in anxiety episodes I experience but yeah, enough of that! Let me know any fears you feel like sharing in the comments below!

From the author of Our Chemical Hearts comes the hilarious, reality-bending tale of two outsiders facing their greatest fears about life and love—one debilitating phobia at a time.

Ever since Esther Solar’s grandfather was cursed by Death, everyone in her family has been doomed to suffer one great fear in their lifetime. Esther’s father is agoraphobic and hasn’t left the basement in six years, her twin brother can’t be in the dark without a light on, and her mother is terrified of bad luck.

The Solars are consumed by their fears and, according to the legend of the curse, destined to die from them.

Esther doesn’t know what her great fear is yet (nor does she want to), a feat achieved by avoiding pretty much everything. Elevators, small spaces and crowds are all off-limits. So are haircuts, spiders, dolls, mirrors and three dozen other phobias she keeps a record of in her semi-definitive list of worst nightmares.

Then Esther is pickpocketed by Jonah Smallwood, an old elementary school classmate. Along with her phone, money and a fruit roll-up she’d been saving, Jonah also steals her list of fears. Despite the theft, Esther and Jonah become friends, and he sets a challenge for them: in an effort to break the curse that has crippled her family, they will meet every Sunday of senior year to work their way through the list, facing one terrifying fear at a time, including one that Esther hadn’t counted on: love.

About the Author

Krystal Sutherland was born and raised in Townsville, Australia—an inhospitable land where crocodiles, snakes, and jellyfish are always on the prowl. She grew up living directly across the road from the local library and spent almost every day after school (and weekends, too) having adventures between the pages of books (mainly because it was too dangerous to go outside).

Her three greatest fears are heights, dark caves . . . and (perhaps worst of all) frogs.

I have a fear of falling and often dream that I’m falling and jerk myself awake (nothing like an accelerated heartbeat to put me back to sleep). This book sounds like it’s going to be one of my favorites ever to read. I can tell there’s going to be my kind of humor as well as emotional passages as well.

HAHHAHAHAHAHA AT THE INSECT ONE. Even though you told me about it through facebook. IT’S STILL FUN TO LAUGH AT.

I’m scared about not accomplishing anything either, but really all I want in life is to live it to the fullest. And to be able to do everything that I wanted to do.

Sounds like a fun/funny book! And don’t even get me started on phobias, because I seem to be scared of almost everything lol. And have been since I was a little kid and I’m still scared of a lot of the same exact things. I’m a really anxious person too. Tornados are one of my main ones, and that got worse after I was in one. Thanks for hosting!
