7 Books I’d Rescue If My House Was Burning Down

Posted by 7 Comments

UMMMMMM. So if you know me, you know I collect Melina Marchetta books but I don’t want this entire post to be about me saving my Marchetta books so I promise I’ll stick with just two. Also, S/O to Nick for helping me brainstorm this post.

1. My signed copy of American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang

Ummm, I’d never let this baby cherish in a fire. Gene Luen Yang has been a fav for over a decade and I was ecstatic when I finally got to meet him. I might have freaked him out a little.

2. My tattered copy of Esperanza Rising by Pam Ryan Muñoz

I usually like to claim this book as the first one I ever bought and there is a fun story behind the purchase SO NO I AM NOT LETTING A FIRE CLAIM IT.

3. My advanced reading copy of The Piper’s Son by Melina Marchetta

Collections can always be rebuilt but finding arcs of any of Melina Marchetta’s books is FUCKING HARD WORK and this is the only one I have. I’D NEVER LET IT PERISH IN A FIRE.

4. Joel and Cat Set the Story Straight by Nick Earls and Rebecca Sparrow

This is probably not the best book I’ve ever read but I never thought I was going to be able to read it! It was one of the first books I ever added on Goodreads but it was an obscure AUS YA that was incredibly hard to find. But I somehow did and I somehow acquired it and I read it and it was absolutely worth waiting 4 years to read it.

5. The special puffin classics edition of Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta

Not only is this probably my favorite edition of any Marchetta book ever, it was also gifted to me by a dear friend so I’d definitely want to save it in a fire.

6. Reckless by Cornelia Funke

One of the most underrated books Cornelia Funke has written and somehow both my college roommate and I were in love with this series??? Well, it is a special book and a special series and one I’d definitely regret losing in a fire given how much time I’ve spent cuddling it.

7. My imaginary copy of A Ring of Endless Light  by Madeleine L’Engle

So, as I was writing this post, I realized I am not as materialistic about my books as I like to think? I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’d probably sob forever if all my books were destroyed in a fire, but the post really got me thinking about what specific books I’d risk my life to save and I realized there weren’t as many books as I thought I’d want to save? Mostly, I’d want to survive the fire. BUT, it also made me painfully aware of the fact I don’t own a copy of A Ring of Endless Light which forever changed my life in 8th grade and if I did own a copy, I’d save it, no questions asked.

What special books would you save in a fire? Would you risk your life to save any of your books?

What I’ve Been Reading: March Update

Posted by on 04/02/2018 • 0 Comments

It seems like 2018 is now shaping up to be a pretty shitty year for me so like, I’ve been behind on everything and not in the mood to do anything except sit around and mope. I would say something more optimistic but like I am not an optimistic person in general, lol. But I’ve been rewatched old favs as a pick-me-up which has been helping a little. March was a decent month for reading and I REALLY hit my backlist TBR hard.

Only four sequels this month but I technically finished two series so HELL YEAH.

It was really great revisiting a series I read back in the day and this time, the books really lived up to my expectations. However, with time comes…

What I’ve Been Reading: February Update

Posted by on 03/01/2018 • 5 Comments

January kind of flew by but I feel like February has felt like it has gone on forever. I did get a lot of reading done but at the same time, I haven’t really wanted to read in the same way I wanted to last month. That might be in part due to the fact that I’ve been stressed out all month and just need something to let up so I can breathe and read. For this upcoming month, I do hope that I will be able to go back to unhauling my backlist TBR.

I read 5 sequels in February (technically more but I am sticking to old series that I started instead of new books.) That’s one less than last month but hey February has less days so…

5 Books I Am Thankful For

Posted by on 11/23/2017 • 3 Comments

Happy Thanksgiving Guys!!!!!!!! Long time no see?? I just finished my last finals of undergrad so it’s definitely been a busy time for me but I am home now and have more time to spend blogging. I don’t necessarily celebrate Thanksgiving but (its tragic history aside) I do like taking a moment to reflect on the various things I am grateful for this year. Right now, I am extremely grateful to all my friends without whom I am not sure I would have survived the year. I am, as always, thankful to my fam and books. So without further ado, here is a list of 5 books I am grateful exist.

1. American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang

I feel like, at some point, people are…

5 Ultimate OTP Meet-Cutes

Posted by on 10/19/2017 • 4 Comments

1. Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

The MCs are internet buds but when they meet IRL, they don’t know that it’s the other person and its an awkward first meeting.

2. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

The MCs meet because one of them is about to be executed and one of them is the one making that decision… 😉

3. Angelfall by Susan Ee

The MCs meet when one of them finds the other “broken and wingless on the street.”

4. The Dark Days Club by Alison Goodman

The MCs kind of meet when one of them falls head first into a world they didn’t know they existed? One of them is a sketchy little shit too… Also, the OTP in this reason is why I created my OTP…

5 Books + Documentaries ‘About’ Climate Change

BOOKS TO READ 1. The Carbon Diaries 2015 by Saci Lloyd

I read this series back when I was a little bb8 but it was SO good and interesting. It imagines a futuristic (or maybe not so futuristic) world where carbon needs to be rationed because of the extreme effects of climate change. Written in a diary format and has a diverse cast (if I remember correctly.)

2. Firestorm by David Klass

Another futuristic world where a chosen one has to travel through time to save the world from the dire consequences of climate change. I read it ages ago but remember devouring this trilogy and loving it.

3. Not A Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis

Set in a world where water is incredibly limited. The MCs family fights…
