CROWN PRINCESS RHIANNON TA'AN WANTS VENGEANCE.

The only surviving heir to an ancient Kalusian dynasty, RHEE has spent her life training to destroy the people who killed her family. Now, on the eve of her coronation, the time has finally come for Rhee to claim her throne - and her revenge.

ALYOSHA is a Wraetan who has risen above his war refugee origins to find fame as the dashing star of a DroneVision show. Despite his popularity, Aly struggles with anti-Wraetan prejudices and the pressure of being perfect in the public eye.

Their paths collide with one brutal act of violence: Rhee is attacked, barely escaping with her life. Aly is blamed for her presumed murder.

The princess and her accused killer are forced to go into hiding - even as a war between planets is waged in Rhee's name. But soon, Rhee and Aly discover that the assassination attempt is just one part of a sinister plot. Bound together by an evil that only they can stop, the two fugitives must join forces to save the galaxy.

I don’t know how to start this review, guysssssss. Empress of a Thousand Skies WAS AMAZING. LIKE I ACTUALLY CANNOT even formulate words even though its been almost a week since I read it. ITS GOT EVERYTHING. People on the run, royalty, secrets, betrayal and hints of romances. YES, MULTIPLE ROMANCES I THINK. I could be wrong.

Did you really like Illuminae? Read this fucking book and love it even more. Seriously. ITS THAT GOOD.

Reasons to Read Empress of a Thousand Skies

1. The world building. I love the complexity of the world. I love that the racial struggles IRL are addressed through racial struggles within the novel and I love the commentary that is made through these struggles. Empress of a Thousand Skies is and tries to reflect on our society by looking at struggles in this fictional society.

2. Crown Princess Rhiannon Ta’an. I love that being shoved into the real world isn’t easy for her and comes with a learning curve. She is obviously very smart and able to take care of herself but she has been sheltered from the world so being in the real world comes with some surprises.

3. THE PLOT. AKA the reason why this book is addicting and why you will be heartbroken when its all over and you have to wait an entire YEAR for book 2 to come out. This book has it all; mystery, betrayal, urgency and its all combined with good pacing that will keep you turning those pages and getting even more and more anxious about what is going to H A P P E N.

4. Because I said so. I am the only person that matters ever so just read it.

Just Another Teen Novel (IN A GOOD WAY!!): The Education of Margot Sanchez by Lilliam Rivera

Posted by on 02/09/2017 • 2 Comments

2k17, the year where my eyes tear up because of everything. Currently tearing up because I wish I was a teen and I wish I could have had all these wonderful #ownvoices books in my life as a teen. I am not Latinx but goddamnit, it is so so SO good to read so many #ownvoices novels with non-white main characters. It is so good to see a POC main character and its so incredibly good to see a POC character in familiar tropes. Don’t ever let anyone tell you tropes are bad. TROPES ARE AMAZING (if done right) and people who think books need to not be trope-y are just reading books where tropes aren’t done well.

The Education of Margot Sanchez has been described as being ‘Pretty In…

Intro to The Infinite Variants of YA + List of Diverse Fic Books that Came Out in Jan 2017

Posted by on 01/30/2017 • 5 Comments

These past couple of months have been stressful and heartbreaking. My friend Nick (Nick & Nereyda’s Infinite Booklist) have been working on a project for a while as a way of combatting the awfulness of the world through books. I know it won’t make a major difference but what we want to do through this project is boost diverse books and diverse voices. We want to promote not just upcoming diverse books, but also backlist diverse books (because they shouldn’t be forgotten about once they are out.) Our goal is that over the course of the year, we get you guys excited about the many diverse books coming out, the ones that are already out and help support the wonderful authors writing these books. We plan on spotlighting diverse authors once a…

A Badass Sequel: The Cursed Queen by Sarah Fine

Posted by on 12/18/2016 • 3 Comments

OKAY SO JUST READ THE IMPOSTER QUEEN and THE CURSED QUEEN and EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY. I dove in expecting to love The Cursed Queen and while I did struggle some with it, it packs just as much of a punch as The Imposter Queen. Both books have their strengths and weaknesses. The weaknesses of TIQ are the strengths of TCQ and vise versa in my opinion.

While both Elli and Ansa are strong heroines, they are also very different from each other and I enjoyed that. Ansa is not as easily likable as Elli was and that was one of the reasons why it took me longer to get into the novel but her journey and her character development is worth it. Even though Ansa is not as…

10 Upcoming LGBTQIA+ Books to Watch Out For

Earlier in the year, I did a similar list that covered the first half of the year and I thought it might be time for another list that covers all the amazing LGBTQIA+ books coming out in the second half of the year that have me tingling with excitement (does that even make SENSE?)

1. Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit by Jaye Robin Brown

Joanna Gordon who has been out and proud for years is asked by her father to “lie low” when they move to a more conservative town. Sparks fly though when she meets the sister of a new friend…. WHAT WILL SHE DO???

Pub Date: August 30th 2. Been Here All Along by Sandy Hall

This book is basically Taylor Swift’s You Belong With Me…
