Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week:

Waiting on Wednesday (102)Bleed Like Me by Christa Desir
Published by Simon Pulse on October 7th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, YA
Goodreads

Seventeen-year old Amelia Gannon (just "Gannon" to her friends) is invisible to almost everyone in her life. To her parents, to her teachers--even her best friend is more interested in bumming cigarettes than bonding. Some days, the only way Gannon knows she’s real is by carving bloody lines into the flesh of her stomach.

Then she meets Michael Brooks, and for the first time, she feels seen to the core of her being. Obnoxious, controlling, damaged and addicting, he inserts himself into her life until all her scars are exposed. Each moment she's with him is a passionate, painful relief.

But as the relationship deepens, Gannon starts to feel as if she's standing at the foot of a dam about to burst. She's given up everything and everyone in her life for him, but somehow nothing is enough for Brooks--until the ultimate test.

A piercing, intimate portrayal of the danger of love so obsessive it becomes its own biggest threat.

At first this blurb sounds like an eye rolling romance story, and then you read the last sentence. Whoa! It’s these kinds of gritty contemporaries that I love!

What are you waiting on, this week?

  1. Kathy @ I Write, I Read, I Review

I knew something about this was ‘off’ (i.e. not actually romance) by the end of the second paragraph. With that said, though, it definitely does sound like it has the potential to be gripping and I definitely want to read it. Great pick & thanks. I hadn’t seen this one yet. πŸ˜€

Ahh I love your WOW posts! You always find books I hadn’t heard of yet! I had not heard of this and it sounds pretty promising, awesome blurb, great cover, and that title? LOVE the title. Thanks for bringing this book to my attention Giselle!! Awesome choice! (:

You are right, it sounds a bit “eye rolling” till the final sentence, and I think it might be one of those contemporaries I’ll actually read!

  4. Eileen @ Singing and Reading in the Rain

Those last few lines definitely remind me of a possibly unhealthy relationship, and I have yet to read a book that’s as twisted as that. I love how stark the cover is and how the red really pops out against the white. You always find such great books, Giselle πŸ™‚
