Wren Noble is dead—she was born that way. Vibrant, unlike other dead things, she craves those rare moments when her twin sister allows her to step inside her body and experience the world of the living.
Lark Noble is alive but often feels she belongs in the muted Shadow Lands—the realm of the dead. Known as the crazy girl who talks to her dead sister, she doesn't exactly fit in with the living, though a recent suicide attempt and time in a psych ward have proved to her she's not ready to join her sister in the afterlife.
Now the guy who saved Lark's life needs her to repay the favor. He and his friends have been marked for death by the malevolent spirit of a vicious and long-dead serial killer, and the twins—who should know better than to mess with the dead—may be their only hope of staying alive.
Interview with Kady Cross
Let’s start with giving us a brief description of this book using a tweet (140 characters or less).
Sweet Valley High meets Supernatural.
What was the hardest part of writing Sisters of Blood and Spirit?
Sorting out, and keeping track of what ghosts can and can’t do in this world, and then staying on top of which of those rules Wren has to obey, and which ones she breaks.
If you could step inside anyone’s body/life for a day, whose would you choose (and why/what would you do)?
The Dalai Lama. That might seem strange, but I would love to spend a day in the mind of someone who is so at peace with life, and full of goodness. He always seems to be happy, which is something I admire. I think I would just spend the day enjoying that feeling of freedom that comes with his beliefs.
If you had to start over, would you do anything different with this book? (Can be about the whole writing/publishing process, or book-wise – plot etc)
I can’t think of a single thing I would do differently. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t thing, but at this moment nothing comes to mind!
Do you have any favorite quotes or a favorite passage in the book you want to share?
I have a couple. One is when Lark walks into ‘Nother Cup : So. Many. Hipsters. And the other one is more of a scene. Ben drives Lark home after they’ve all been to the hospital to visit someone. He tells her about having a crush on the same girl for years, and then she realizes he means her. I like that scene because he’s taking such a risk in telling her that, but Ben doesn’t see it that way. He’s just glad that he has a chance to say how he feels. I think that’s the moment Lark really starts to fall for him. I know it was the moment I did. 😉
About the Author
In her other life, Kady Cross is a USA TODAY bestselling author of more than twenty books. She is lucky enough to have a husband who shares her love for the slightly twisted and all things geek, and a houseful of cats with whom she shares her darkest secrets. When she’s not listening to the characters in her head, she’s either trying to formulate the perfect lip gloss or teaching herself to solder. She has a weakness for all things girlie, sugar skulls and boots. Her love of books and makeup borders on addiction—of which she never, ever wants to be cured.
