Book Girls Don’t Cry is a weekly feature where we each discuss/vent/advise on the chosen weekly bookish topic. Don’t miss Jenni on Mondays, and Amy on Saturdays:

All About Yours Truly!

After seeing a guest post by an author listing random/fun facts about their books, we thought it would be fun to implement it as a topic where we list fun facts about ourselves… except we’ve deduced we’re pretty boring so far, so this may not have been a good idea after all >.<

  • When I stumbled upon Facebook for the first time it was when I found it open on my husband’s computer (though we weren’t married yet). I got mad at him for making an account on a dating site and made him delete his account, not believing his “Just some social thing” story. We still laugh about it to this day!
  • I am deathly afraid of cooking with grease. I was making fries in 2001 (back home we used to make em with just heating oil direct in a pan, no deep fryer) and it caught fire. I was ridiculously stupid and decided it was best to try to bring the pot outside and throw it in the snow, except when I threw it the wind just blew the fire right in my face. I sported burnt bangs and eyebrows, and second degree burns for a while. But hey our house only needed a paint job! (Fireman says it was a miracle I didn’t lose both my hands from the oil creeping out of the pot which he was surprised didn’t happen). Now I can’t even be near the sound of grease crackling.
  • I used to be a horror movie junkie. Then I watched The Grudge 1 & 2. That face (and sound) still haunts me every time I close my eyes!
  • I sleep with my socks on (apparently this is odd?)
  • In our house we currently have 3 Macbooks, 1 Powerbook, 1 Mac Mini, 1 PC, 2 iPhones, and an Airport Basestation. 😀
  • I don’t have time anymore since I had my devil child but I used to be an uber RPG gamer. The last one I played was Final Fantasy X and X-2 (completed to 100% #hairflip – Chocobos haunt my dreams)
  • I have never been stung by a bee, nor have I ever broken a bone (now I’ve just jinxed myself).
  • I once smelled my eyeballs burning. (No I swear! I had Lasik and it was SO gross – still some of the best money I ever spent!)
  • We have a cat who can’t meow (she thinks she’s a human)
  • I’m from a small town of population 2,545  – it doesn’t even have a Tim Hortons!
  • I love books (this is totally new information!)
  • Since making this post, I now know I lead a very uninteresting life!

Now that I’ve dished out all of these super duper awesome me-facts, tell me something about you that I wouldn’t know! 😉

We’re looking for topic suggestions for future BGDC posts! What would YOU like to discuss (can be anything from vents to advice)?

Waiting on Wednesday (87)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week:

I know, I know, it’s a dystopian, but it’s so hard to break the habit and it sounds so good! >.<

What are you waiting on?

Adorable and adventurous, The School for Good and Evil is a fun escape from reality. When beautiful Sophie and weird Agatha end up in the wrong school – perfect Sophie can’t be evil now, can she? – they’re determined to fix this unforgiving mistake.

This is a magical adventure through and through; the book is set at this School of Good and Evil, a wonderfully imaginative school that trains future fairy tale characters. Meaning when you graduate, you’ll be in a fairy tale book; whether a princess, a villain, a gremlin, or even a tree, your faith will be determined by how well you do at this school. This idea kind of blew my mind a little; I found it so unique and incredibly fun. The girls, each clearly…

Long-Distance Dating: Time Travel Edition

Long-distance relationships only grow more complicated when you and your significant other are years apart. We’re not talking about May-December romances here, we’re talking about dating someone who lives in an entirely different century. With the recent popularization of home time-travel devices, this is a problem facing more and more people every day.

It’s always the…

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews featuring the books we got this week, and I also mention blog news/happenings of the past week.   How is everyone this week? I have been super busy moving Xpresso Book Tours to WP this week so I’m sorry for being a sucky commenter, I swear I’ll be visiting you all when it’s all set which should be soon! But hey, did you stop by and see my overstuffed bookcases this week? And this week I think I received the biggest book package ever which made me it even worse but hey, who’s complaining? 🙂

Stacey’s Website / Goodreads / Facebook / Twitter

Stacey Jay is a recovering workaholic (or at least working hard at recovering) with three pen names, two small children, and a passion for playing pretend for a living. She’s been a full time mom-writer since 2005 and can’t think of anything she’d rather be doing. Her former careers include theatre performer, professional dancer, poorly paid C-movie actress, bartender, waiter, math tutor (for real) and yoga instructor.

This was a surprisingly good read! I’ve always had a strange fascination with cults; knowing there are people who have a persuasive power to such a degree is incredible. This book shows what it’s like for kids who are raised in a cult community (which has happened), and how people – especially those broken by grief – can become brainwashed so thoroughly.

After her sister got kidnapped when Lyla was only 5, her mother became withdrawn, emotionally crippled by this emptiness which made her the perfect target of vulnerability. This is how Pioneer, with his big ideas and an impressive force of belief, “rescues” the whole family from this pit of anguish. When we’re introduced to Lyla, she’s now a teenager in the midst of getting ready for the end…

Bookshelf Tour – AKA: A Call For Help!

Ok first I have to warn you this will be scary. You may leave this blog today feeling jittery, and twitching at the horror these images will bring. You have been warned. Signed – Messy Shelfer

Voila, my shelves! *cringes*

How do I organize my books? Sometimes people ask me that. Well, I don’t O_O But, look! They’re still alive back there! It’s like book prison! Oh my god am I torturing my books? *sobs*

They did used to be all alphabetized –…
