Acclaimed author Katie McGarry returns with the knockout new story of two high school seniors who are about to learn what winning really means.

Champion kickboxer Haley swore she'd never set foot in the ring again after one tragic night. But then the guy she can't stop thinking about accepts a mixed martial arts fight in her honor. Suddenly, Haley has to train West Young. All attitude, West is everything Haley promised herself she'd stay away from. Yet he won't last five seconds in the ring without her help.

West is keeping a big secret from Haley. About who he really is. But helping her-fighting for her-is a shot at redemption. Especially since it's his fault his family is falling apart. He can't change the past, but maybe he can change Haley's future.

Hayley and West have agreed to keep their relationship strictly in the ring. But as an unexpected bond forms between them and attraction mocks their best intentions, they'll face their darkest fears and discover love is worth fighting for.

Interview with Katie McGarry

Hi Katie! Thanks so much for dropping by the blog (again! :))! Being a big fan of the Pushing the Limits series it’s an honour to have you back to chat about Take Me On!

To start, if you were to describe Take Me On with just one word, what would it be?

Passionate

And since we’re all excited to meet West, describe him in a tweet (140 characters)

I had to write this in my Twitter screen to make sure I met the 140 characters, but don’t worry, I didn’t push Tweet. 🙂

West is a hot mess. A fighter, a lover, a brother, a friend. Hurt, broken, thrown away. He battles through it all because he has heart.

And now Haley!

Haley is a force of nature. Fierce, strong, a hurricane when she’s at the top of her game. But she’s alone, terrified, and afraid to love.

What’s your favourite aspect about West and/or his relationship with Haley?

I love how West always pushes his interactions and conversations with Haley to the point that she gets so flustered that she laughs. Over the past year, Haley hasn’t had a lot of joy in her life and West reminds her that there are some things in life worth enjoying and that love is something worth fighting for.

Were there any challenges in writing the characters or the romance in Take Me On?

It hurt to write West and Haley’s stories. It was definitely an emotional rollercoaster for me and I cried several times while writing. Two scenes in particular hurt so much to write that I had to take breaks from the scenes.

Out of all the books in this series, which romance did you have the most fun writing?

Definitely West and Haley. There’s a scene in Haley’s bedroom that was so emotionally romantic that I read it again and again. The give and take between West and Haley is electric and I could have written them forever!

Now a bit about you: tell us 5 (or more if you feel inspired) fun/surprising/random facts about yourself.

  • I can play piano, but I’m awful at reading music notes.
  • Hot chocolate with whip cream is my favorite treat.
  • I love wearing high heel boots.
  • My favorite music artists are Guns N Roses, Eminem, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, and Hillsong.
  • My first book crush was Gilbert from ANNE OF GREEN GABLES. My first TV crush was Ty Miller from the YOUNG RIDERS. My first movie crush was Balthazar Getty from YOUNG GUNS II. My first musician crush was Jon Bon Jovi.

I, and I’m sure many others, can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us in the future – especially after having read about the new series you have brewing! 😉 Thanks for visiting today!

About the Author

Katie was a teenager during the age of grunge and boy bands and remembers those years as the best and worst of her life. She is a lover of music, happy endings, reality television, and is a secret University of Kentucky basketball fan.

Katie is the author of the full-length Young Adult novels PUSHING THE LIMITS and DARE YOU TO, and the e-novella CROSSING THE LINE. Her debut novel, PUSHING THE LIMITS, is a 2012 Goodreads Choice Finalist for YA Fiction and an RT Book Reviews 2012 Reviewer’s Choice Awards Nominee for Young Adult Contemporary Novel.

Writing has given Katie an excuse to pursue her passions. Research for her books has provided her with the amazing opportunity to train with baseball players, ride along in a drag car at ninety-six miles per hour and experience boxing and mixed martial arts. The most memorable moments for Katie are when she speaks to groups of teenagers about her research, writing and the truth that no dream is out of reach. Katie would love to hear from her readers.

Review & Giveaway: The Fever by Megan Abbott

Review & Giveaway: The Fever by Megan Abbott

Upon finishing The Fever I wasn’t really sure how I felt about it and to be honest I still don’t really know.  Usually when I write a review I go into having a general idea of what I want to say and I already have a good idea of what my rating will be.  Going into writing this review I am hoping that it will provide me with some clarity when it comes to my thoughts on the novel.

At the heart of my… indifference for the novel is the way in which it is told.  It’s a split POV tale that is told in the third person.  I always struggle when it comes to stories told in the third person, let alone when we have three different…

BEA 2014 Recap!

Posted by on 06/04/2014 • 28 Comments

Hi everyone! So in case you were a total hermit under a rock you know that it was BEA last week, and I was totally there! This was my second year and it was just as exciting and incredible as the first time. I met even more bloggers, I saw an awesome list of authors and even celebrities, and I got home with an intense stack of books. Definitely a successful BEA experience!

First thing we did upon arriving was go to the Harlequin Teen blogger breakfast which was so much fun. We all got to chat with the authors who even come to each table to talk to all of us, and I saw a bunch of bloggers I had met last year as well as new ones I…

Review: The Truth About Alice by Jennifer Mathieu

Review: The Truth About Alice by Jennifer Mathieu

A very important story told through several outer point of view that is ultimately about not believing everything you hear. The Truth About Alice takes on stereotypes and rumours and high school life in general, and unravels its layers to show the truth underneath. To show that not everything – or everyone – is as it seems. It’s pretty brilliant in that way: in its raw honesty, in its bluntness in showing us us how quickly and easily truths get distorted. And most importantly, how bullying is very real in all kinds of forms.

The Truth About Alice is narrated by several characters, not of the victim herself, which I find is part of the brilliance of this story. I initially feared four POVs would be overwhelming, but they are…

Review: If I Lie by Corrine Jackson

Posted by on 06/02/2014 • 11 Comments

I’ve had this book on my shelf for well over a year now but for some reason I never did get around to picking it up. When I saw Jamie from The Perpetual Page-Turner raving about it recently I decided it was time for me to bite the bullet and give If I Lie a read. Am I ever happy that I did. This story was just the kind of emotionally touching tale that I love to read and get lost in.

Sophie Topper Quinn has grown up with two very best friends, Carey and Blake. As they got older Sophie and Carey became known in their town as “Military Barbie & Ken.” People saw their future together and it was well known that they were an item. Once Carey…

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews featuring new additions to our bookshelves.

So today is the day that the BEA hype will start to taper off a little bit.  I had so much fun watching all the fun on Twitter and Instagram and I even got to feel included by some very special people who decided to spoil me a little bit (I’m lookin’ at you Lyn, Kara & Giselle!) I don’t know about anyone else who watched but I felt drained from it all myself, that was a busy 3 days for everyone there! The lines, oh my goodness, this girl would have lost her mind! So, since Giselle isn’t back yet (and since I was a shitty co-blogger and completely forgot…

Everyone knows Alice slept with two guys at one party. When Healy High star quarterback, Brandon Fitzsimmons, dies in a car crash, it was because he was sexting with Alice. Ask anybody.  Rumor has it Alice Franklin is a slut. It’s written all over the “slut stall” in the girls’ bathroom: “Alice had sex in exchange for math test answers” and “Alice got an abortion last semester.” After Brandon dies, the rumors start to spiral out of control. In this remarkable debut novel, four Healy High students tell…

Review: The Vanishing Season by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Review: The Vanishing Season by Jodi Lynn Anderson

I’m slowly learning that I am very picky when it comes to the type of “mindfuck-ey” books that I like. There are some that I love, that skyrocket to the very top of my favourite books list (like Another Little Piece, Lucid or Complicit to name a few) and then there are some that just never grab me and seem to almost go over my head. Falling into this group is books like (Don’t You) Forget About Me and now The Vanishing Season. There were definitely things that I appreciated in this novel but I never connected to it in any way nor did I come to care about the relationships.

Maggie’s family has had to downsize after her mother got laid off from her job in Chicago. They move…
