Rashika’s Fall Watchlist

Posted by 1 Comment

HELLO to the human and bots reading this post!!! Life hasn’t been as great lately which is why I’ve been so absent these past couple months, but I am working on making a comeback. Especially since I have a list of reviews to write (yikesss.) BUT. It is fall, which means a lot of new TV shows premiering and also old favs coming back. So, I’ve gone from rewatching old seasons to having a somewhat unmanageable watchlist. Here is compilation of shows I have my eye on this fall.

Animated

Adventure Time

Adventure Time with Finn & Jake (2010)

Okay so. A couple years ago, I binged season 1 of Adventure Time but never continued. The show recently came to an end which means, I AM GONNA WATCH ALL THE SEASONS.

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir (2015)

The second half of season 2 has been airing since May but I only just got access to it SO YOU BEST BELIEVE I AM GOING TO BINGE. I JUST WANT my children to be happy and my ship to sail.

Bob’s Burgers

Bob's Burgers (2011)

This show is the only good thing that airs on Fox and probably the only good thing that has ever aired on Fox. I AM SO HAPPY MY BELCHER BABIES are back.

Netflix Originals

BoJack Horseman

BoJack Horseman (2014)

SEASON 5 is HERE. OMG. I actually started watching the new season but then had to stop because life happened and I didn’t want more reasons to be sad. I am concerned about this season because I desperately want a major redemption arc for BoJack and I don’t know if it is going to happen.

The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes

The World's Most Extraordinary Homes (2017)

I accidentally discovered this show on Netflix last winter and immediately became addicted. When I saw season 2 was out, I was ecstatic but a little research showed me Netflix is a butt and only gave us 4 of the 8 episodes Season 2 has so now I am going to have to WAIT. I HATE WAITING.

Chef’s Table

YES. I LOVE THESE DOCUMENTARY SHOWS Netflix is doing. It fills the HGTV and FOOD CHANNEL shaped holes in my heart. I didn’t even know a new season was going to be out in the fall so I started watching Chef’s Table France and then suddenly, Netflix told me that a new season of Chef’s Table is out and I could die happy.

Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj

Hasan Minhaj in Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj (2018)

Hasan Minhaj has always been my fav on The Daily Show and I’ve loved his stand-up so when I heard he was getting his own weekly show, I was ready to be obsessed. I am counting down the days till October 28th.

Returning TV Shows

Modern Family

Modern Family (2009)

A significant character is apparently going to die this season and I am N-E-R-V-O-U-S. But also, its the last season so I am also sad since I’ve been watching this show for 7 years???

Black-ish

Black-ish, IMHO, is probably the best sit-com currently airing and I am so happy it will be back in my life. It is unafraid to go to dark places & make important commentary but it is also so much fun which is what makes it the best.

Superstore

Mark McKinney, America Ferrera, Ben Feldman, Colton Dunn, Lauren Ash, Nichole Bloom, and Nico Santos in Superstore (2015)

This show isn’t as popular as it should be but omg, last season ended on such an interesting note and I cannot wait to see where they take it from here.

The Good Place

Ted Danson, Kristen Bell, William Jackson Harper, Manny Jacinto, Jameela Jamil, and D'Arcy Carden in The Good Place (2016)

ITS BACK. I’VE BEEN WAITING SINCE FEBRUARY. I’ve been trying to avoid spoilers on the internet because everyone and their dog watches The Good Place but omg. MY BODY IS READY.

Trial & Error

Kristin Chenoweth, Nicholas D'Agosto, Sherri Shepherd, Jayma Mays, Steven Boyer, and Amanda Payton in Trial & Error (2017)

I used to be obsessed with crime shows so when Nick told me about this show, I was hyped. It’s kind of a mocumentary of the crime documentaries and a satire on crime shows? Also it is absolutely hilarious. And incredibly under-hyped. SEASON 2, HERE I COME.

New

Single Parents

Single Parents (2018)

This is pretty much the only new TV show on my list?? Which is sad but since my taste is almost exclusively sitcoms, its hard to find shows that are up my alley. ANYWAY. I am excited.

What shows are on your Fall watchlist?? Any new shows I should know about??

What I’ve Been Reading: June Update

Posted by on 07/02/2018 • 2 Comments

YAY! We’re officially half-way through the year. And my yay was definitely not sarcastic. No indeed. Nothing has really changed. I continue to be stressed and semi-functioning but I did read a bunch this month so I am pretty happy. I’ve also officially read 161 books this year and I am hoping that means I’ll hit the 300 mark this year. WHO KNOWS. WISH ME LUCK, FRIENDS.

It was a pretty good month for backlist TBR smashing and I am happy I got so many sequels read! I have a bunch more checked out so hopefully, I’ll get more books read and ticked off that SEQUELS-TO-READ tbr. My favorite sequels were the remaining books in the Gallagher Girl series. Omg those booksssss. They changed…

A Guide on How to Determine the Audience of a Book: A Discussion

Posted by on 05/22/2018 • 2 Comments

How do we define the various demographics books are published for? Publishing is split into Adult publishing and Children’s publishing but what determines who a book is published for? This is something I’ve thought about for a long time (especially since my primary focus in undergrad was on Children’s lit) but it recently came up on Twitter and I thought it was worth talking about.

I think the first answer that always comes at point is the age of the main character but a number of books that would be YA/MG based on the age of the character are often published as Adult. For example, The Girl With All the Gifts. A non-literary example of this is Stranger Things – a show with younger characters that is aimed at an older audience.

Jason Reynolds Mini Reviews

April was basically the month of Jason Reynolds books. We got not one but TWO NEW RELEASES but THE GREAT and since I wasn’t doing that great last month and sucked at reviewing, I FINALLY got around to talking about these great books. Ratings haven’t been included since I cannot make up my mind and regardless, Jason Reynolds writes great books.

Pressure of Perfection: On Diverse Authors and Readers

Posted by on 05/08/2018 • 5 Comments

These past two years, we have seen a definite surge in the amount of diverse books that are focus titles. This means that they are essentially a main focus for the publisher for the season and receive more publicity and marketing that non-focus titles. I am guessing seeing a couple diverse books floating around has probably led some people to believe that all the problems in publishing and life have been solved. THE END. WE HAVE ALL THE DIVERSE BOOKS WE NEED. We’re never gonna need anymore. Well, for starters, if you take a moment to look at the CCBC stats, that is simply not true. Only a fraction of children’s literature published each year features diverse* characters and a fraction of those books are written by the people…

What I’ve Been Reading: April Update

Posted by on 05/01/2018 • 5 Comments

Happy May everyone!!! New month new me?? Who knows. I ended up spending most of April in a funk. I didn’t get a lot of reading done but I am starting to feel a little bit more productive so we’ll see and hope May is a better month personally and for my reading aspirations.

Okay so I didn’t read any backlist sequels this month because again, I was in a funk but, I am counting the two sequels I did read in this update so I can give myself a pat on the back.

Both these books were anticipated sequels and coincidentally, both were pushed back to this year so I’ve been waiting on them for quite some time (After the Wedding for 2.5 years.) Trouble Never Sleeps…

7 Romance Novels I Am Anticipating in 2018

Posted by on 04/05/2018 • 1 Comment

I am never the person who is on top of the upcoming romance novels list but somehow, this year, there seem to be a large number of books coming out that I am looking forward to and that GIVES ME A REASON TO DO A POST ABOUT THEM. YAY.

1. How To Forget a Duke by Vivienne Lorett

Vivienne Lorret was one of those authors I discovered through an impulse one-click and I’ve been a fan ever sense. She never disappoints and this time, she is coming out with an Emma-esque retelling???

2. The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

Not only does the book have an adorable cover, it also has an adorable premise. Stella Lane thinks she is not good at romance so she decides to hire an escort…
